A rogue warrior who challenged her to taste the pleasures of surrender. . .

He was her mission, a midnight capture she'd trained for, but Logan Blackstone sensed her presence in the isolated cabin--and pinned agent Scottie Giardi to the bed! Utterly primitive, stark naked, and dangerous in every way that mattered, Logan demanded the truth in a voice as seductive as it was lethal.  Recklessly aroused by this dark god, Scottie responded with potent abandon, but once he'd claimed her soul, would he keep it?

Fierce and mesmerizing, achingly intense and breathlessly sensual, Donna Kauffman's sizzling story of perfectly matched adversaries is one of her wildest--and one of her best! He tantalized her, overwhelmed her, and taught her the exquisite thrill of losing control, but could a woman who never played it safe find sanctuary in this renegade's heart?

3.5 stars!

Scottie Giardi leads a secret military elite force known as Delgado’s Dozen. Previously serving in the police force as a detective, she has been living with the guilt of both losing both her husband and father who died while also serving in the force. It’s a past, she knows can’t be changed. And her only saviour came in the form of Seve “Del” Delgado, who saves her from misery to head up and take charge of this elite group.

She receives a call from her elusive boss Seve, to notify her of a situation that can ultimately risk a mission. And that certain mission is named Logan Blackstone.

Logan Blackstone is a man who also has his own dark past and secrets, and discovers from a dying father that he has a twin brother. He is determined to track him down, using his own connections. But what he doesn’t expect is to be literally captured and captivated by Scottie.

The plot is well told, with witty dialogues and just enough heat of sexual tension to keep you reading. A little teaser:

“His voice, those eyes, the weight of his body, his naked body. He was the perfect male animal, finely tuned, supremely controlled and quite comfortable in nothing more than his own skin.”

I loved the connection between the H/h, the banter and the discovery that they are both one and the same soul. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s voice and her sense of humour. My favourite quote:

“Chocolate, the true source of power in the universe.”

How true! All in all a great little read.

"Dark Knight" is the story of Scottie and Logan.

Our heroine is the head of a secret service group, when one of her assignments lead her to the hero. She has to incapacitate him to prevent him from endangering his estranged brother's assignment and save his life. However, he is also a cop. Thus begins their story, which is 80% them engaged in a combat/ fight with one another, while trying to pin each other down. He wants to know why is this female repeatedly stabbing or trying to tie him down, she wants to leer at his erect penis while keeping him captive. The book is basically them bantering and learning about each other. Pretty boring tbh, however has a kickass strong heroine!

Thank you Random House Publishing and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review Dark Knight by Donna Kauffman.

If you have read the Book synopsis, then you are aware you are dealing with two highly intelligent, extremely dangerous and perfectly matched adversaries. Scottie Giardi is fearsome, strong and incredibly focused on her job, in this case, completing her mission of keeping Logan Blackstone immobilised. Her life is her work just as much as her work is her life. Until she met Logan, she had been able to keep any doubts that life could hold more, at bay. However, she had begun a journey in her heart and mind, and was beginning to question this. While she still took command of her world with almost inhuman strength and determination, she was starting to feel a twinge of disquiet at the state of her isolated, lonely life.

Equally isolated, untrusting and solitary, was the devastatingly handsome and virile Logan Blackstone. Having just discovered that he had a twin brother somewhere in the world, he ached to fill the void of aloneness his recent death of his father had created. He ached for connection, fulfilment and completeness.

When i first read Dark Knight, I felt that it was highly unbelievable how quickly too people could 'fall in love'. Upon reading it a second time, it made more sense. Scottie and Logan sensed within each other kindred souls, a deeper connection that was logical given their traumatic experiences, and an acceptance that had previously been completely unattainable. In this, the book was excellent.

The witty banter, the intense but wonderful characters, the sexual tension and awareness were all so well written. What the story lacked though, was 'the more'! With so much tension created and suspense built as to the success of the mission, it was almost anticlimactic when the story picks up a few weeks later, with a disappointing level of detail. It also felt as though I was in the middle of a series, which I found out later, this is the fourth book in the Delgardo's Dirty Dozen Series, by Donna Kauffman.

Dark Knight was a fabulous book, but would best be read as the conclusion to a series, rather than reading it as a Stand alone.

In Donna Kauffman’s sexy and suspenseful page-turning romance, agent Scottie Giardi discovers the steamy side of undercover work—with her captive.

As the head of a secret government task force, commonly referred to as the “dirty dozen,” Scottie Giardi is as tough as she is professional. But this skilled operative has her hands full keeping Logan Blackstone in check while his brother completes a dangerous mission. Logan is big, strong, sexy, and determined to find the twin brother he’s never met. More amused than intimidated by Scottie’s undercover games, he’s ready to play, offering a taste of sweet temptation in the bargain.

An ex-cop on a deeply personal mission, Logan isn’t about to tolerate interference, even if Scottie is gorgeous and could easily make him forget his business. She may have the upper hand while they’re locked up in his mountain cabin, but the fire in her eyes tells him the desire she feels is real. Their mutual attraction is about to take them into the dangerous, vulnerable places of the heart, where there’s no turning back.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as excerpts from these Loveswept titles: Deep Autumn Heat, Callie’s Cowboy, and About Last Night.

My Thoughts and Review

Wow !What a fantastic read loved it !

Enjoyed the book immensely.Right from the get go this book had me laughing out loud so hard I thought I was going to have to reach for the tissues.

Love Scottie the commander of a Elite team who does things behind the scenes for the government. Scottie has sat behind a desk for awhile now and misses the adventure and the rush of being in the field of an operative but, she gets a mysterious call from her old commander Del and is rushing off to help in need.Enter Logan one hot-tie that makes her blood boil and it only took one look.

Scottie's job is protect Logan for a weeks time keeping him out of trouble as they don't want him interfering in there ongoing current case and blow it to smithereens.Logan is looking for his long lost brother he never new he had but, unfortunate he doesn't know what his brother is into whether its job related or he is part of a cult. His only thought is to save his brother but, by doing so it may get both of them killed.

This was one funny an very humorous read. Right from page one I was intrigued. The camaraderie between this couple was something to enjoy especially when they both were lashing out at each other during there scenes who was going to dominate the situation and who was going to say uncle.Hilarious situation's referring to bondage time and time again yet not in the serious sense.

A well developed love story were who people live very dangerous lives, pretend to be other people and who are lonely due to the sensitivity of there jobs which creates danger around them constantly. Both characters have a past haunting them making them more aloof but, this couple shared there tragedies with one another and have learned to let go of the past and grab on to life on the hear and now. These two agents found there soul mates even when the neither were looking .

A fast paced romance read with intrigue and danger! This book was a page turner from the very beginning giving me tons of laughs to enjoy throughout this tale.If you just had a bad day that seems everything went wrong from the very beginning all you have to due is open this book and start reading and it will set you to rights once again .

Recommend to all who need more laughing in there life and others who just need for laughs period!

Thanks to the publisher, Random House Publishing Group, and NetGalley for the chance to read this!

This is the fourth book in the romantic suspense Delgado’s Dirty Dozen series by Donna Kauffman: Dark Knight: A Loveswept Romance Classic is a re-issue of a Loveswept Classic Romance #882 originally published in 4/98. Delgado’s Dirty Dozen #4 (Scottie Giardi’s story). It is a stand-alone story but you will enjoy the others books in the series.

Scottie Giardi took over when . Now as head of the secret government task force known as the Dirty Dozen she rarely works in the field. However, on Christmas Eve she receives a very mysterious phone call from Seve warning her one of her operatives, Lucas Blackstone, is in danger. Apparently, the danger comes in the form of an identical twin brother, Logan Blackstone. Scottie’s mission is to contain Logan, by any means necessary,…until Lucas completes his mission.

Logan’s father deathbed confession revealed that he had a brother…an identical twin brother. Now Logan will stop at nothing to reunite with his brother. As a second-generation cop he has the knowledge and resources to track down Lucas; he succeeded in tracking him down - only to discover his brother is a member of cult, the Brethren.

I loved the cabin scenes, they are well written and pull you into the action. The battle between them is the prefect foreplay – it is the prefect background for their developing romance. This was a good conclusion to the series; even though there were additional character stories she could’ve written. Who knows…now that these have been re-issued...maybe we will see future installments.

Other Installments:
#1 (Diego Santerra’s story) - Santerra's Sin: A Loveswept Classic Romance
#2 (John McShane’s story) - Silent Warrior: A Loveswept Classic Romance
#3 (T. J. Delahaye’s story) - Light My Fire: A Loveswept Classic Romance

Extremely fast read. Well written characters that weren't stilted or stiff, the story line nor the dialogue felt forced. I really loved the characters because they made sense together, they flowed well. From the get go I loved Scottie, she's driven, resourceful, & knows her own mind (of course that's before she met Logan, then all hell breaks loose). Here to do the job the by the rules Scottie is in for it with a fly the seat of his pants renegade Logan; who doesn't it take kindly that this strange woman has shot him full of drugs & hogtied him to the bed.
He grumbled something, then wrenched onto his stomach as if some invisible force had shoved him. Her mouth went dry. A coil of white linen between his legs was all that covered him. Somewhere she found enough spit to swallow. But she couldn't dredge up a denial. She wanted that sheet gone. In fact, she curled her hands into fists against the temptation to step into the room, grab the sheet and tug it the rest of the way off of him.The man was simply too glorious to be covered. He deserved to be naked. He had the kind of sprawled grace that would make artists of any medium salivate. Chapter 1.
Man oh man from the first few pages, the two hit it off. Ever mindful she has a mission to accomplish Scottie is here to the job & Logan's not about to make that easy for her. Every turn they find themselves fighting for the upper-hand. In each other the two have found a kindred spirit & even though the book states that there is some adventure involved it's mostly off the pages (so like deep background stuff). This book is more of a character book with the focus being on Logan & Scottie & the love affair they are engaging in.

I can't wait to find Lucas story or the other women/men of the Dirty Dozen, they sound intriguing. Although accelerated due to the dangerous situation the action is a foregone conclusion & takes place mostly off page. The rest of the book is about them & the buildup of trust between them.

The pop & sizzle between the two gives a pretty big buildup, it leads to a pretty good love scene between them. Not the modern day, porn/graphic erotica detail but still a good basic about them love scene. I liked that they were 'kindred souls' & found a home in each other. It was a good novel. I like Donna's writing & look forward to enjoying some more of her books.

A definite must read, add to your book pile asap. Happy Reading

REVIEW:
Ms. Kauffman has the goods and talent to create extremely likeable characters. The beginning managed to capture and ensnare me into pushing forward. The humor was irresistible and the sex appeal simply phenomenal. I loved Logan and Scottie and found myself wishing for these two to get together and loving every bit of build-up.

Opening chapter: “He grumbled something, then wrenched onto his stomach as if some invisible force had shoved him. Her mouth went dry. A coil of white linen between his legs was all that covered him. Somewhere she found enough spit to swallow. But she couldn't dredge up a denial. She wanted that sheet gone. The man was simply too glorious to be covered. He deserved to be naked. He had the kind of sprawled grace that would make artists of any medium salivate.”

Oh. My. God. Enough said? I think so.

Now, you may be wondering why if I liked it so much, I’m giving it only 3 and ½ stars. Well the reason is this. We had a good rhythm going, the buildup and suspense was great and then when suddenly Logan is needed to go into an undercover mission? It cuts to several weeks later. I felt cheated out of the story, out of what happened when he went on said meeting and met up with his brother.

It was a bit of a letdown, but outside of that, the writing is great and the romance was spot on.

I will try out another book of hers and hopefully, this time, I’ll get the full scoop.

Dark Knight by Donna Kauffman
4 STARS
Dark Knight is the 4th book of a series dirty dozen. I did not realize the order of the books till now. I have read them at of order. But they can all be read so far alone. This is a Loveswept classic.
Scottie Giardi is now in charge of the Delgado's Dirty Dozen after her boss Del testified in court and had to leave to get plastic surgery and new identy.
Delgado's Dirty Dozen is a secret goverment task force. That was started by Seve Delgado. You have to have no relatives and ties to work on the task force. It started with 12 members but as they fall in love they have to stop going out into the field.
Scottie gets a call Christmas using the secret code that was just entered and was surprised to hear her old boss Del calling to give her assignment that she needed to do now. She was to fly to Montana even in the snow storm. Her agent Lucas Blackstone was in trouble.
Lucas Blackstone was undercover and all of a sudden he is being searched by his twin. No one knew he had a twin till now not even Lucas. His twin Logan Blackstone is hunting him down and found him in Montana. No one should have known that he was in Montana undercover and Logan could get his twin killed if he was not stopped trying to reach him.
Logan has to be kept out of the way for 7 to 10 days. Scottie also needed to find out how he got information to find his twin. Scottie makes it to the cabin in Montana and finds him in bed naked dreaming. Scottie goes to try and drug him but he wakes up and tries to stop her. While he is out of commission gets handcuffs on him
Logan is not just a former cop and now bar owner. He has secrets and talents that match Scottie. He gets some control over and over until he makes a deal with Scottie.
Scottie does not want to hurt Logan but will kill him before she lets him endanger his brother and 16 innocent children. Logan does not want to hurt Scottie but he wants to find and meet his brother his only relative. He suspects that Scottie is goverment issue.
(I don't know Lucas's story I wonder if that is a book I missed. would like to know more about his mission.)
Thier are a few love scenes in this novel. I would love to read more books about the dirty dozen.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.

Cover & Title - 3.5 out of 5.
Favorite Line - "This is insanity" she whispered, hardly aware she'd spoken out loud. "Then lose your mind with me, Scottie"
Favorite Character - Scottie.

I was really surprised to discover this book was in a series, I only figured it out right at the end of the book when a few other couple emerged. If you want to read this book in order check out the authors website where she lists the order of the series. This is book number 4. If you are wanting to read it regardless of the order or are looking for a stand-alone book then no worries, this book will work either way.
I was also surprised to discover that this book was originally published in 1998, i did not notice at all when i was reading that this book is over 14 years old. It is not dated in the slightest. It just goes to show that good writing style is ageless.

I enjoyed the story, i did find it a tad cheesy but it didn't affect how much i liked it. My favorite thing was the verbal & psychical sparring that went on between the leads, it made for great chemistry between them. I also felt that because the book is basically set in one house, with mostly the only two leads in scene that the story was intensely focused. That focus made it more interesting. I was glad the way things work out in the end as i love a happily ever after.

I would recommend this book & plan on reading the rest of the series in the correct order :)

This was another hit by Donna Kauffman. The story between Scottie and Logan was captivating and kept me reading page after page.

The verbal interplay between Scottie and Logan kept me laughing. They both have a sense of humor similar to mine and I really liked it! Scottie is another strong woman who doesn’t need to rely on snarkiness to stay strong or keep people at bay. She’s secure enough in herself as a woman and field agent that she doesn’t have to rely on bitchiness.

Logan is interesting in himself. While he doesn’t see himself as a white knight, he really is. He and Scottie need each other to heal and find themselves falling in love.

I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read more about the Dirty Dozen and get the rest of their stories. However, I did find some of the dialog between Logan and Scottie a little over the top. This wasn’t until the end. I wasn’t sure why they had the exchange in the elevator. I think the story would have been better without it. I also would have liked to have known more about the mission Logan’s brother was involved in. Maybe I’ll get that in his story. I guess I’ll have to read it to find out!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review:

"Dark Knight" by Donna Kauffman was indeed a good romantic suspense contemporary read. It was the fourth series in concluding to this series. This novel was another one of her well written novels that you will find yourself being pulled into this fast read especially in the cabin scenes, the battle between this hero and heroine(Logan & Scottie) was the perfect foreplay with the perfect background in their developing romance.

It starts...

"Scottie Giardi took over when Seve Delgado went into witness protection, during Santerra's Sin. Scottie's mission is to contain Logan, by any means necessary,...until Lucas completes his mission."

The characters are all well developed that will keep you truly entertained only to get a good conclusion to the series. I found "Dark Knight" a good novel that I would recommend as a good read.

Read this simply because of the author and the synopsis of the story. I'm familiar with DK's books it's the reason I read this because I love her style of writing. But this was the least fav of mine and I regret even buying it. I should have taken a hint from the cover. :P pfft. Main problem above all else: it was too short. When I got the book I noticed how thin it was and of course after reading it I felt like I read a short story rather than an actual novel. I'm not a fan of short stories. Not enough juice for me.

Second: the actual plot of the story was too short and convoluted for me. The whole book pretty much covers two-three days between the main characters and 90% of the book is spent on the two tumbling about in a cabin half naked arguing and fighting against sexual attraction until they finally give in. Then to have them come together at the end and get hitched was just too fast and unrealistic for me. Cute sexy adult couple but the story and pacing of it was rushed and choppy.

If you want smut then I say read it (even though there's only one sex scene in it) not even much of that to be honest but that's all you'll pretty much get out of it. No real story in there.

This review is also available at My Fiction Nook.

An easy summer beach read, with much UST and two evenly matched MCs. I very much enjoyed the easy banter between them, their witty dialogue and their instant attraction, despite being on opposite sides.

The author did a great job with the plot, though I would have liked to see a bit more information as to the outcome of the mission that puts Scottie Giardi into the path of Logan Blackstone. I liked the underlying theme of family and really enjoyed the strong female protagonist. The UST was palpable, even though their connection was instant, even before they had spoken to each other, but that's why we read romance novels, right?

This book is part of a series, which became clear as other couples are introduced toward the end, and if you visit the author's website, you'll be able to discern the order in which they should be read. The author did a very good job giving this book closure for the main couple, and still hinting at more.

Take this to the beach, or curl up in your favorite chair with a cup of hot cocoa, and enjoy. Worth the time.

I received a free ARC from the publisher via Netgalley. A positive review was not promised in return.

Review featured at www.books-n-kisses.com

I so enjoyed this book. I had just finished the other three in the series (Santerra’s Sin #1, Silent Warrior #2, Light My Fire #3) and was thinking I would take a break and come back to this book later but something made me start reading it and I think it is the best of the series.

To be honest though there is no suspense in this romantic suspense but there is a lot of romance. The character of Logan is so intense and mesmerizing that it is hard not to fall for him right away. Scottie is a tough woman but the author has been able to match her up to someone equal to her and yet complimentary to her. Not any man would have been good for Scottie but Logan is perfect.

This is a great short story and one that any romance fan will enjoy. You do not need to read the others in the series but I think as a fan you will enjoy them. Pick up the first one and you will not be able to put any of them down.

This was a short but sexy romance. I absolutely loved the sexual tension the author creates. Instantly you fall for the characters and can not wait to see them get together. It was a one-sitting read as it hooked me in and kept me turning pages. I am usually not a fan of "singles" - I much prefer to read a series because usually you cannot connect with the characters in a single book. I was not overly fond of the ending. I understand why it was rushed since this is primarily a love story, but as a lover of action and as well, it just seemed to clue up a little too quickly. All in all, this was a great read if you're looking for some spicy sexual tension with a HEA.

This book tell the story of Scottie who is assigned to protect the twin brother of her colleague; Logan from being involved in a mission where he is in. When she reached the destination where Logan is, she did not expect the instant spark between them. It is also a mutual feeling for both of them. But unfortunately, both are still in denial of their past history which hindered their relationship from developing.

Overall, the story focus on only two characters; Scottie and Logan. Both of them have a past which they feel guilty about and is unable to forgive themselves. I like the scene where both of them comes clean with their history and the way they comforted each other. The way the author has written that scene makes me, as the reader, comforted and relieved.
