I was really lucky to have gotten the chance to read and review Time For Death by Christie Silvers through Tempting Book Tours. I love paranormal romance and this seemed to be right up my alley. Little did I know just how much I was going to enjoy this story. Liz is just wild enough to be a lot of fun. She's just naive enough to fall for the trap that was set for her. She's just blind enough to not realize what she really wants.
The story line wasn't like any other vampire story that I've read in recent memory, but it did take parts of the ones I've read and wove them together into a new story that you won't soon forget. I love the paranormal mixed with the reality. Far too many times, the paranormal world is far fetched and you don't even know where you are, but Time for Death could be set in any small town USA. Liz could be anyone. The story could be something that any of us could experience, if vampires really exist.
The only problem I had with the story? It was too short. I read the book from beginning to end in under 3 hours and I want more.
Christie sent me a copy to check out. I was a little hesitant, as I keep saying that I am not interested in vampire novels. But after reading this one, I guess you can say I am a convert! The book was fun and engaging. Sex scenes are reminiscent of Harlequin novels, but exciting at the same time. And despite the way the book summary begins, it is not really all about sex. There is actually a plot that opens up the storyline for a full series. I polished it off in just a few hours and eagerly anticipate part 2!
This book was very intriguing and interesting at every turn of the page. Liz really gets into an adventure and meets a very scrumptious vampire named Marcus. It was great reading and I can hardly wait until the next book in the series comes out October 2010.
Time for death has a rather unique storyline. Sure it's a vampire tale, but it's not like anything I've read before. It's very much a psychological thriller with a lot of spice. Liz is a fun, easy going, snarky and smart heroine. I love her sass and her sailor mouth. She just doesn't mince words with anyone. She's straight up cool and well liked. She faces the unknown head on and no holds barred with the help of her best friend/lover, Rick (love him!) and her bar's straight forward and powerful bouncer Chad. Everything changes for the crew after a little romp in the local cemetery and Liz quickly discovers nothing is what it seemed. Her whole world is about to change...and not for the better. This is a fun, fairly fast paced read with plenty of action, affection and wise cracking among the friends. I won't tell you anything about our vampire, other than that he's scary, erotic and not what you'd expect. He has his eyes set on Liz and has the power to get her by whatever means necessary. Circumstances require a desperate rescue and we follow Liz through the wilderness of Georgia as she races against time to save someone she loves and with any luck, defeat her mysterious and ruthless foe. TFD had me laughing, on the verge of tears and...I'll admit it...a little freaked out at times. While I hoped to hear more from a certain character at the story's end, Christie makes it evident things will carry on in to the second book, but twists the events in such a way that has you ready to find out what's next for Liz. I enjoyed the colorful way Christie portrays Liz and I'm curious to see where she takes us in the sequel. I have a few questions that really really need to be answered...are you listening, Christie? I. Need. To. Know. Don't leave a girl hanging...4 flames for unexpected turns and eager anticipation for the next installment.
This is my first Christie Silvers book which I purchased from her (a signed copy!) at Book 'Em North Carolina. I'd noticed her books online at Amazon and being a vampire lover/reader/writer myself, I had to see what all the fuss for Silvers was about. Her book did not disappoint.
We are introduced to Liz Baker, a spunky, snarky, strong-willed woman who owns a bar. She is a wild child who likes to have fun but is so busy having fun that she completely misses that someone is out to get her. Through the story (I don't give spoilers), Liz finds herself "marked for death" and death is following her.
I usually don't go for the paranormal romance because of the tendency to have a great deal of sex and erotica. I don't have a problem with those but I generally avoid books having it as a preference. Still, there was plenty of steamy heat and sex but just enough to keep you interested without going overboard (hello, Rick!). And it went very fast, as did most of the book. I put this volume away in only a few hours (shows how well it kept me page-turning!).
As vampire books go, this is a combination of many mythos. I liked that I recognized the various styles of vampire but that these men are worth reading about. Another plus, though there is killing, the violence is perfectly managed so as not to feel it is a gore-fest.
I truly enjoyed this book and clearly understand why Silvers is the best-selling author she is. Silvers has an original flair that I think will be even stronger as this series continues. If you read paranormal romance, then you must add this book to your list! I'm excited to see where the next installment takes me. Silvers, I'm a new fan of yours (and Marcus' too!).
Time for Death is Book 1 in the Liz Baker Series by Christie Silvers. This book is about a woman who owns a bar and lives life to the fullest. One night while having a romp in the local cemetery she sees someone watching. She flees the cemetery and ends up in an accident that lands her in the hospital. After she comes home, strange things start happening and her mistery peeping tom from the cemetery shows up in her dreams and at her home. Things continue to get more out of control after this.
I truly enjoyed this book. It was a nice change from the normal vampire books I have previously read. The main female character Liz is very independent and sarcastic. I love that about a main character. It makes the reading fun. I love how Christie Silvers gives you information about each character and all the secondary characters get their own background and complement the main character Liz. This book is steamy without being a sex fest. The beginning of the book keeps you entertained while building the story. The ending is where most of the action is in this book. I do have to say, this vampire book does not have a ton of action like some I have read. This does not take away from the book. The action that is at the end is short but effective and is a nice balance. I truly enjoyed this book and will be reading the next one in the series soon!
This is the first book I have read from this author and I loved it. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Due to the content of this book I recommend that only 18 and over should read it.
Liz is the type of heroine you just love. She is smart, sassy, strong, and stubborn. She owns a bar and loves her small group of friends. Liz thinks she knows everything about herself until one night out with Rick her best friend everything changes. People start dying and a sexy stranger shows up and Liz falls in love with him. Liz knows he’s a vampire but she can’t resist the pull she feels towards Marcus. It isn’t until he kidnaps Rick that she realizes she must fight him.
I really loved this book. I was pulled into this world from page one. Christine writes her characters as if they could be our friends and neighbors. I could see myself going to the bar and hanging out with Liz and Rick. Marcus is the type of vampire you love to hate. He is beautiful and evil.
Christine has started off her series with a bang that has twists and turns that had me staying up late into the night to read this book. I will be buying book two immediately so I can see what happens with Liz and her friends next. I give this book 5/5 bats

Ok so I bought this book at Book 'Em NC a few weeks ago... I chatted with Christie Silvers a little bit before i picked it up... I had seen a couple of the books in the series online for kindle but i hate starting a series in the middle... yeah i am one of those who have to start from point a...So i snagged this book up hoping it was as good as the reviews i had seen on it said it was. I am totally happy with my purchase and will be buying the rest in the series because i am hooked.
Liz Baker is the type of head strong, feisty, dirty mouthed heroine i love. She is AWESOME, even if she pisses me off sometimes with how she treats Rick...It is so hard not to spoil this book... She sometimes can't see what is in front of her with her love life... Throw in a vampire who is evil that Liz is completely attracted to even though she shouldn't be, steamy questionable sex, a snarky cat, a couple of deaths, some funny parts, life drama, and thriller action... This book has everything... I am so happy i bought it... I would totally break it down more but all i can say is read it... It is one of those books you will have no problem reading again and again.
Time for Death was an awesome read right from the start. I loved this book and will definitely be buying the second one. Liz Baker is a great character, she is honest and strong, and has a filthy mouth. lol. I liked it that Liz had a potty mouth, it showed her character perfectly and also showed us that Christie Silvers does not hold back with her writing. Omg, I hate spoilers and anything I say about this book is going to give away something. Ok, this book is about Liz Baker, who is suddenly being stalked by a vampire. She feels close to him, maybe even loves him, but knows he's evil. There are many other factors that play into Liz's story and I can't say what they are. But, this read is sexy, thrilling and action packed from start to finish. It's funny, because I actually think I could talk about this book a lot and I feel like this review is in adequate because I can't really say more.
What a great read, Time For Death is defiantly not your everyday vampire book and that is one of the reasons I liked it so much. There are some great twists and turns that will leave you wanting more. I’ll defiantly be reading book 2 & 3.
Liz Baker is the kind of girl I’d have as my best friend she is stubborn, strong, smart and she take’s shit from no one! One her and her best from Rick decide to go have a little “fun” In a cemetery. Liz thought she saw someone watching them little did she know things were about to change and not for the better. All of a sudden people are being killed and this Sexy man shows yup out of nowhere. Liz knows he’s and vampire and that she is in some deep shit, but she can’t resist the pull that she has towards him and she doesn’t know why. When things start to unravel pretty fast, will Liz be able to find a way to stop Marcus and save her best friend or will she die trying to save him?
Liz is a strong southern woman who lives in small town, GA. She's enjoying her quiet, predictable life at the age of thirty-two, but Liz is discovering her life isn't as simple as she thought it was. She finds out about her true biological father, a man she's never met but who has promised her life to a vampire. However Liz's tight circle of friends and her main squeeze will do whatever it takes to keep her safe from harm. It is a great book from cover to cover and I eagerly await the next book!
I LOVED this book and definitely loved Liz. She is the type of heroine that everyone wishes they could be. She speaks her mind, doesn't take any crap from anyone, and can take care of herself. The story line in this book was great, and very addicting. Once I started I was unable to put it down. I can't wait to read the next book in the series (Kill Me Next Week) to see how the story continues. :)
Omg I loved this book.when I read the first page,I was hooked.the author wrote this in such a way that it is so easy to read.as you meet each character, you feel as you are really meeting them and become part of their life.I couldn't put this book down,I had to keep going.I loved the way Christie adds the little comments in a situation, like when her mom calls her a twit.I can't wait to see how Liz,Chad and Ricks next vampire experience goes, this one was just the beginning of their story.Awesome book and definitely recommend.
