Emilee
My final year of high school should be the time of my life, but it isn’t.
Instead of having friends, making memories, and loving my life, I’m hiding away from the two people who are determined to break me.
I’m keeping my head down, focusing on my grades in the hope that I’ll finally get out of this town and away from everyone.
There are four months left of high school.
90 days of walking into that building.
I can make it.
I have to make it.

Parker
Being the new kid halfway through your last year of high school is tough.
I didn’t have a plan, but that changed when I saw Emilee.
One look into her eyes that held so much pain, hurt, and sorrow, and I knew I was meant to help her.
There is only one problem.
I’m sure the person trying to break her is the person I promised to give a chance to.
A promise I made to the one person who has always been there for me.
The person I never break my promises to, but it’s getting harder to keep.

Emilee is a high school senior who is being bullied. She thinks she has no one to turn too. All she wants to do is make good grades and get out of the town as fast as she can. She lives with her grandparents and her two brothers as her mom showed up one night and dropped her after right after she was 12. Her grandparents are very strict when it come to her and the things she was allowed to do. She felt that she was invisible to everyone including her family. When a girl came into town she latched onto Emilee and her best friend Christian. It didn’t take long for Christian to be turned against Emilee and they started bullying her.
Parker moved into town when his aunt who he lives with was getting married. When he saw Emilee he knew he had to get to know her. He tried everything to get to know her. She finally let him in when they had to do a class project together. They started hanging out more and he wanted more but with her strict grandparents she didn’t know if she could be more and the voice inside her head kept telling her that she was not worthy of Parker. When she thought things were going well the bullying just intensified and she had no one to turn too and thought the world would be better without her.
I was a Beta reader for this book and I have never been pulled to a character so much as I did for Emilee. Being bullied myself when I was younger and felt that no one cared. Aelicia is a new author and this is her first book and it was an amazing book. This book has topics that could trigger some so please check them out before you decide to read this book.

Really intense. The bullying is awful. It’s a good thick story. Read the warnings for sure.

On to book 2.

Well this just wrecked me to all hell and back😭. This is by a new arthur for me and boy did this book pack a punch. I was enthralled with this story from the beginning. This arthurs word's just flowed beautifully over the pages with her telling of this story and making you feel the despair the hopelessness that Emilee felt from the constant bullying day after day from her former 2 best friends. She's just trying to make it till she graduates and can leave this town, from them. Then she meets Parker and they both feel a strong connection towards each other, and she knows they can't be friends, but try telling that to him.

I am so invested in these character's I swear my heart just kept breaking for what Emilee was having to go through and for Parker with his big heart I have to know how their story is going to end, because that cliffhanger has me needing that next book.

This book was so damn good you will be taken on an absolute emotional rollercoaster of feeling's in it, so grab it get ready to get very angry, ugly girl crying and hugging, wanting to have a girl's back. There are trigger's in here so please read them before reading.

“I’m a nobody but damn it, I want to be something to someone”

Get the tissues at the ready and join in for an emotional ride. My heart broke for Emilee from page 1 up until the very end. That poor girl, if there’s anyone that needs a hug and a friend it’s this one. When life throws her a bad hand, it just keeps throwing more until she breaks. God and did she break.
It was nice to read a school bully romance where the H wasn’t the one doing the bullying. The way he loves her is just everything, but man did i want to shake him so he could see what was going on!!
Waiting for book 2 in the duet is going to be painful after that cliffhanger of all cliffhangers.
Please ensure you read the trigger warnings before starting this one as, although it is written really well, the triggers are there.
As a debut book, I’ve got to say, you did yourself proud and you were born to write.

I was enthralled from the very beginning. The writing is absolutely amazing, I felt everything that Emilee and Parker were going through, all the hurt, despair and joy. I seriously need to know how their story ends because this has wrecked me and I desperately need to know what happens next. If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel with a capital F then this is it.

great read

I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one day, it just sort of sucked me in. There’s not really any spice but there is some angst. It’s an emotional read. It does end on a cliffhanger so I’m looking forward to the next book. That ending though

Trigger Warnings from the author: "This story is not for the faint of heart. It deals with serious issues. If any of the listed topics are a trigger for you, then this story is not for you. This story also contains some scenes that are steamy in nature and should not be read by someone under the age of eighteen."

Extreme Bullying, Self-Harm, Attempted Suicide, Small mention of drug use, talk of eating disorders. If you or someone you know is currently dealing with any of these issues, do not hesitate to reach out for help. Asking for help does not make you weak, it shows how strong you are to know that you need help. Help is available 24 hours a day. Speak with someone today by calling or texting 988.

Be Aware that this book opens with self-harm.

Breaking Emilee, Book 1 of the Love in the Bootheel Duet, was about 17-year-old (almost 18) Emilee Hill, a high school senior, and 18-year-old Parker West (there are more books in the series, but the first two cover the romance between Emilee and Parker), also a senior who had recently transferred to her school.

Emilee, her older brother Adam , and her younger brother Levi lived with their grandparents in a nice double-wide mobile home (a fact that classmates used to bully her) after being abandoned by their mother. Their lives were far from perfect, and Emilee, who had a harder time than her family knew about, hid her issues as much as she could (going so far as to cut thumb holes in all of her long-sleeved shirts in order to hide the evidence of her self-harming.

Emilee hadn't always felt so bad that she was driven to self-harm. She had moved to the small farm town where she currently lived and had two friends: Christian and Vanessa, who had moved to their town and befriended Christian, so the duo had become a trio of precarious friends. Sometime in the summer before school started, Christian and Vanessa had turned against Emilee. One night when they were all hanging out (she'd had to beg her grandmother to let her go, but she was given an 11:00 p.m. curfew that she had to strictly adhere to), she overheard them talking about how they had only been acting as her friend, and Christian asked Vanessa when they could stop the charade. When she told them she had to go home, they both turned on her in front of other people. After her brother's girlfriend, Carly, confronted Christian in front of his friends, he informed Emilee that, while he and Vanessa had planned to just stop being her friend, they were now going to bully her every chance they had. She suddenly realized that her two best friends had quickly become her worst tormentors. This caused her senior year of high school to turn into a nightmare, and it didn't get any better as time went on.

Shortly after the second semester had begun, Parker transferred to their school. Parker wasn't your typical MMC because he wasn't a jock, he wasn't one of the more popular kids in school, and he wasn't from a rich family. He was just your regular, run-of-the-mill kid who walked the halls of the school. Just as Emilee was. Also, just like Emilee, his mother had abandoned him with family and hit the road (she'd had an affair with a married man who was never going to leave his wife). He had been living with his Aunt Luna since the age of 5. Unlike Emilee, his aunt treated him as family should. His Aunt had recently become engaged, and her new fiancé had been offered a teaching position at his alma mater, which was in the town where Emilee lived. The only thing he didn't like about the move was his soon-to-be uncle's niece...who unfortunately just so happened to be Vanessa. He had learned early in their acquaintance that she wasn't a good person, even though she had tried to hook up with him on multiple occasions. But his aunt had formed a close relationship with her soon-to-be niece, and because of that, he had made a promise to his aunt to be nice to Vanessa and "give her a chance". That laid the foundation for how his actions (and reactions) towards Emilee would play out. Soon after he registered in the office, Parker ran into Vanessa and Christian, who proceeded to show their true character and began verbally abusing Emilee to him. However, upon meeting Emilee, Parker determined to get to know her better. Unknown to him, Emilee planned to avoid him at all costs, especially after being physically assaulted by both Christian and Vanessa, who informed her she was dating Parker. They both told her to stay away from him and that she should do everyone a favor and put an end to herself.

Once he finally gained a small amount of trust from her, he promised he'd never hurt her. But then he pushed her to spill all of her secrets, everything that had led up to the present. Except he pushed too hard, and she finally broke down. However, he wouldn't let her walk away, telling her he would be there for her, that she was no longer alone. They slowly started getting closer (no spicy scenes), but that only made her two former friends all the more angry. It got to the point that they had started threatening Parker if he didn't stop being friendly with Emilee. Then things took a turn for the worse, not long later, and Parker made a trip back to see his old friends without first letting Emilee in on it. At the same time, Christian and Vanessa amped up the venom, and all hell was about to break loose.

There was so much angst, drama, and emotion in this story that it's hard to describe. The bullying was fierce and unrelenting in its severity. The bullies weren't stopped, no matter how many people were aware of the problems...and everyone was aware because they didn't hide what they were doing. They bullied in plain sight, and no one said a word.

The MMC was a coward for not standing up for her or saying anything about it. He knew how bad it was, but still, he kept his mouth shut. I get that some of the things were used against him to make him look like an accomplice, but he knew everything and did nothing...just like everyone else.

Since there certainly wasn't any romance in this book, I wasn't sure how to rate it. 99% of the story was wrapped around the bullying rather than the relationship between the two main characters. Perhaps Book 2 will have something different, but all I can foresee is that the bullying will continue due to the way this book ended. Let's hope it's better, with a little more relief from the darkness of this first book. I suppose I can give this a three-star rating, but nothing higher.

Breaking Emilee” is A Greene’s debut novel. This is not your average bully romance it’s so much more it’s brutal and it’s heartbreaking. My heart hurts so much for Emilee.

Emilee is a young vulnerable girl. Who is in a world of pain. Her only friends turned against her, she lives with her grandparents who are very strict with her. She believes she’s not good enough for anyone and she is subjected to brutal bullying. All Emilee wants to do is graduate from high school and get out of her town. Until she meets Parker he sees her for the remarkable young woman she is and he intends to help her no matter what he is immediately drawn to Emily. Their connection was absolutely incredible.

A Greene has done an outstanding job with this story and I cannot wait to continue this duet. I do recommend you read the trigger warnings before diving in. This story does end in a cliffhanger and I am now left on tender hooks waiting for the conclusion of this story.

So grateful to receive an ARC of this book, it releases 13/3

This book was amazing. It hit so close to home. A high school made to feel worthless by family and friends, looking to feel something. Have tissues because you’ll need them!

This is the authors debut novel and what a read it was!
It delves deep into a world of sensitive topics and it’s heart wrenching, raw and emotional. It’s well written and dealt in a manner with such empathy and care but i always recommend reading the trigger warnings first.
Oh how I felt for Emilee. I kept thinking she’d catch a break, my heart was in my mouth for most of the book.
Parker had me shouting in rage. Why are men sometimes so blind?!
This was one rollercoaster of a read. There were highs, lows and everything in between.
I shouted and cried and was beside myself as i devoured it desperate to find out what happens.
I’m now waiting not so patiently for book 2, that ending wow!
Amazing!

I really enjoyed this book. It is definitely sad and hard to read at times but this shit happens in real life. I love that she found someone to make her happy after everything. The ending was hard and I hate when books end in cliffhangers especially when the next book isn’t out. I can’t wait to read the next one. I hope they get there HEA💚

This is the debut novel by this author and holy cow did she write a great story. Emiliee is broken and doesn't believe she deserves anything great in her life. She is just trying to keep her head down and make it through her senior year so she can leave. Then in walks Parker and turns her life upside-down with the attention he gives her. Things happen and you can't look away or put this book down because you just have to know what happens next. The cliffhanger at the end will leave you on the edge of wanting the next book out now. This book is an emotional roller coaster that you don't want to get off. I seriously can't recommend this book enough. This book should so be on everyone's TBR now in my opinion.

Breaking Emilee is A. Greene's debut novel. It's a heartfelt read that touches on some very serious topics, and as such, if you have any triggers, please check the warnings before reading. It's not for the light-hearted, and your heart will break for Emilee as she navigates the struggles of coming of age whilst being ostracised and belittled by those she once held dear. And that's where Parker comes in, determined to break down those walls Emilee has erected and show her the love and affection she truly deserves. But true love never did run smoothly, and it's not giving love, which is the problem so much as accepting love.

Wow!!

I loved the story behind this! Yes it was depressing and sad but that’s what made this story what it was!! It is triggered and for good reason if your sensitive to su!cide and self h@arm!ng then this isn’t the boom for you and just don’t read it….

Yes there’s no Happy ending as such in this book… but keep in mind this is a duo and it has a second instalment!! So keep open minded and pray for that HEA in booked 2!!

I must say the cliff hanger had me screaming!! Thank god I didn’t need wait for the second 😜 I would of cried!!

Honestly A.greene as smashed it with her first novel !! And I can not wait for more!!!

An Emotionally difficult read

This book touches on some extremely sensitive topics. It's written really well from a teenagers perspective who's been bullied their whole life. Please check your trigger warnings and if you have any traumas you're not healed from this book might not be for you. But I have a feeling the second book holds a promise of healing. I did enjoy this read. It was so well written.

The story could have been good but the writing was truly awful. She went on and on about unimportant stuff and then retold the same scene from the other characters point of view. Overkill times 100. I won’t be reading anything else from this author. Just bad.

This book was so much. That poor girl. I think it’s a good commentary on social media and bullying in the real world. Recently in Australia a 12 year old girl committed suicide and that is devastating. I believe it really explored the breakdown of a person so completely
