Living the glamorous life thanks to her successful new husband, Sinclair Fines plays with fire when her not-quite-ex-husband Kwame gets out of prison and blackmails her for cash and sex, forcing her to take drastic action. Original.
Southern Belle Layla Jordan has always preferred to live within the realms of her imagination where all the men are gorgeous and the women are worth whatever trouble they manage to get into. As an army brat, she traveled throughout Europe and learned to appreciate and value different cultures. Though she calls Georgia home, she continues to have a love for traveling the globe.
Layla always knew she would become an author. Since she has always been fascinated by women’s issues and the state of black love, she looks forward to penning thought provoking plots around dating, sex and relationships.
Weaves, nails and breasts aren’t the only fakes in Hollywood. Meet Sinclair Fines, Brijetta Hamilton, and Jalessa Love, members of the Liar’s Club. Lies and facades mean their very livelihoods.
Sinclair is married to movie producer Omar Fines and she has a PhD in Pretending. This girl from the hood and one time hustler hit the jackpot and her biggest lick when she landed Omar. What Omar doesn’t know won’t hurt him, but it may hurt Sinclair. The skeleton is out of her closest and it’s doing the Cha Cha slide…all the way to Hollywood. What’s a girl to do?
Brijetta is married to super sexy movie star Trey Hamilton and has a Master’s in Fronting. From the outside looking in, it’s peaches and cream. But Brijetta knows it’s anything but. With her marriage and its secrets always on the verge of being exposed, what’s a girl to do?
Jalessa, a struggling actress, is trying to get in where she fits in and she’s dual majoring in Deviousness and Backstabbing. She’s looking for her big break, even if it’s at the expense of others including her friends Sinclair and Brijetta. All’s fair in love, war and Hollywood. What won’t this girl do?
Hmmm…I’m kind of on the fence on this one. There were some things I really liked about this novel and some things I didn’t. THE LIAR’S CLUB is a quick and highly entertaining novel. What I think disappoints me and is keeping me on the fence is that it had the potential to be more with some solid, rooted writing and less shock and superfluous drama. I would prefer that the author had scaled back on some of the drama and focused on the strength of the story as there was a lot of strength in this storyline. Now having sampled a few of this author’s books, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that’s she’s talented, but I hate to see her not reaching her full potential. This book shined but more along the lines of a 75-watt light bulb while she has 100-watts. Some authors need gimmicks like manufactured drama, over the top sex, bling bling, and hood certification to cover up where they are lacking in writing. This author doesn’t have to do that and I’d like to see her play more to her undeniable skills. I’m moving on to some of her romance to see what she’s working with over there.
That said, this book did have a lot of pros. It held my interest from beginning to end. I like the fact that it did end. If you want a quick fix of drama, THE LIAR’S CLUB is the perfect read for you.
Layla, or whatever name you prefer, if you’re reading this, turn your lights all the way on and blind these folks with your talent. You and your girl.
THE LIAR’S CLUB is a tasty story of Sinclair Fines and her two fake-friends, Brijetta Hamilton and Jalessa Love, as they tried to hold on to their status through gossip they share or create about each other.
Sinclair Fines has reinvented herself and snagged a mega-producer husband, Omar Fines, and believes that she has him hoodwinked to her true feelings for him. While Sinclair has all of the bling that money can buy, her husband cannot provide the one thing that makes Sinclair tick – sexual satisfaction. So a girl has to do what a girl has to do. But, Omar Fines did not get and keep his status by not knowing what is going on around him – as control is his middle name. And when Omar does not have control – well things can get very unpleasant. So, when Sinclair’s secret not-quite-ex-husband shows up, you wonder how will she juggle both “husbands”.
Brijetta Hamilton is married to a hunk of a man, Trey Hamilton, that leaves women drooling in his wake. So everyone wants to know how the ex-big girl managed to hook him in the first place, and while it is a secret that is the glue that holds their marriage together, Trey is withholding a bigger secret from Brijetta.
Jalessa Love was a rising star with a bright future until she paid more attention to partying and drinking than her career. So, now she needs to secure a new movie role with a little help from her friend’s husbands, or better yet maybe she will just take the husbands from them.
Layla Jordan writes a moving, erotically charged story with great tone and sharp humor. The phrasing of the trash talking will have you smiling, but makes their point. The storyline is fast-paced without being exhaustive, and engages the reader from page one. While entertaining there is a serious side to the story as it deals with domestic violence, and substance abuse. The characters outwardly appear to be shallow, but each is fighting their own demons, and the author did a good job on making them to be flawed but likeable.
I enjoyed this intriguing story where for the characters all that glitters is not gold and their actions have serious consequences for themselves and other. THE LIAR’S CLUB is the perfect mix of drama, sex, and humor.
Sinclair married Omar Fines, a mega-producer with more money than she could ever dream of. It appears that she has a picture-perfect marriage. Unfortunately, Omar is a couple of takes short of being perfect, forcing Sinclair to find other leading men to satisfy her. When she gets a glimpse of how determined Omar is to make sure she understands his starring role in her life, her past begins to catch up with her. Will greed keep Sinclair rooted in her seat?
Brijetta married Trey Hamilton, the hottest action star in Hollywood. She's been nipped and tucked to death, in an effort to be the trophy Trey desires. While she's cutting and pasting herself, it's Trey whose packaging isn't star studded as he's got a secret that could jeopardize not only his marriage, but his career. The more Brijetta tries to reel in the crazy, the paparazzi, co-stars and drama seem to take her there. Can she save her marriage?
Jalessa Love's star was on the rise until she overdosed on DIVA! When she's fired from a prominent film, she tries to spin things in her favor. Unable to convince her agent of her talents, Jalessa enlists the help of her "friends'" A-list husbands who have the money, and star power to help retrieve her career from D-list status. It's nothing personal, just show business, Jalessa reminds her angry "friends." Will her backstabbing catch up with her?
Bright lights, fame, fortune, greed, secrets, lies, drugs and love make up "The Liar's Club." Though predictable, it's a quick read and I enjoy that each woman has to deal with the consequences of her actions. My main issue is editing. It's like Dafina Books' editors are sleeping on the job, as this is NOT the first time I've mentioned that there are wrong words, missing words and wrong tense usage.
Strap on your seatbelt and get ready for a great ride. Layla Jordans's debut novel is a page turner from beginning to end. The Liar's Club is a peek inside the lives of a few Hollywood residents whose lives are mingled more than they know. Sinclair has everything she has ever wanted in her life with her successful producer husband Omar, but soon learns the things she craves may bring her to a situation that was more than mean streets of Detroit ever prepared her for. Brijetta, a former big girl has managed to snag one of Hollywood's hottest leading men when she married Trey Hamilton. Jalessa was an up and coming Hollywood Hottie until she let her Diva antics propel her to the bottom of the barrel. These three leading ladies and then people in their lives are all part of the Liar's Club as they all work to protect their lies and keep themselves out of the tabloids. This roller-coaster ride of a tale is sure to please those fans who love just a little(ok a lot) of drama in their story. Pay attention and don't make assumptions because just when you think you have it figures out you will see the Liar's Club has yet another spin for you.
My therapist recommended I read The Liar's Club, but she meant the one by Karr. I didn't realize that until I checked this one out of the library and had already started reading it. As I am sitting here like, "WTF is up with these people?!" and "this is so pornographic, why is she asking me to read this?!" I was still being sucked in by the scandals and wanting to know how things would end up. So I finished it. Lots of twists and turns, violence and sex, and in the end people pretty much got what they deserved. I'm a little regretful that I wasted time reading this when I was supposed to be reading something else. Oh, and whoever edited this did a terrible job. It's riddled with typos and that really bothered me.
Really this is more of a 2.5. I read this book in less than one day. It was absolutely crazy and complete trash but I did enjoy it. Would I recommend it? No. I probably wouldn’t admit to reading it 😬but I did enjoy the entertaining Hollywood setting and the book was oddly satisfying.
Pretty crazy book. The writing wasn't very good & a bit too graphic & vulgar. But I stuck with it and there was enough to the crazy plot to keep me interested.
This was definitely the craziest book I have ever read.
This book is told from different perspectives of the characters which, I think, made it so much better. One character, Sinclair, is from the urban streets of Detroit. She married a big time producer, but is cheating on him which causes him to beat on her. When he finds out she is married and her husband just got out of jail the book takes on a big twist that made me scream, Oh my goodness. Another character Jalessa is an actress that too many people don't want to hire because of her diva stunts. When she finds out some secrets of Brijettas husbands secrets everything goes hectic. Brijetta, the last girl, is married to a big star in hollywood. She suspects him of cheating on her with Jalessa but is shocked when she finds out the truth. This book didn't really remind me of any other book I have read but did take a little bit of a turn that is in most urban fiction books. I can't really relate to this book from personal experiences but I do know people who get beat on my their boyfriends. Sinclair takes the beatings as a way to hold on to the money, because she was very money hungry. I wonder why many females hang on to their boyfriends who beat on them, even when they have no money or power to hold on to. Even though Sinclair was beat on, she still had pride which made her stronger and gave her will to fight back, even if it was at the last minute.

In the world of the elite...Hollywood films have nothing on the dramatic lives lived behind closed doors..or the lies told to keep secrets buried.
Sinclair has it all..but just has a minor problem with Omar that leaves her with insatiable urges. But when her past comes back to haunt her, she realizes all that glitters is not always gold.
Jaleesa just wants a big break and will do anything to get it...but when is the price ever too high for comfort?
Brijetta is always looking to make things perfect..including her body but when all flaws are revealed and she finds herself dealing with some hard truths with her film star husband, Trey..she finds that the limelight is dimmer than it seems.
I throughly enjoyed this read. The characters were well developed and I liked how the plot intertwined them which made it a suspenseful read. The story was on point and fast paced. And I absolutely lovedddd that it was a stand alone..well it seems like one; very satisfying ending and very well written. It was not rushed at all. I'll be sure to check out this author's work again.
Layla Jordan did a great job with this story, she pulls you in from the very begining and holds your attention. I loved the storyline, the sex scenes were spicy and the action kept me turning pages. I will definately be checking out a few more of her novels to see what other fire she brings.
I read this book while traveling to Indiana for the weekend, and boy am I glad I picked it up. This book is full of drama, with an ended that requires a sequel. I certainly look forward to more from this talented writer.
Wow!!!!!!What a drama filled book, this book contained alot of drama and humor.I would recommend this book to anyone who like both of those characteristics definitely a 5 star Banger
