Many of the most picturesque images of Jesus Christ are those that are found sometimes seemingly buried in the Old Testament. Using this teaching model of Jesus Himself, Charles Spurgeon, the prince of preachers, here offers 60 studies revealing Jesus Christ in the teachings, testimonies, and types of the Old Testament. These are orgainzed into three the historical group, in which Christ is compared to key historical figures of the Old Testament; the ceremonial group, in which Christ is proven to be the fulfillment of Old Testament ceremonies and rituals; and the prophetical group, in which Christ is magnified as the promised Messiah. Drawing on the clear and direct revelation of the New Testament, Spurgeon uncovers the thorough and systematic way in which the life and ministry of Christ fulfills His integral and eternal role in the redemptive plan of God.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.
As a Jewish believer I've never read or heard any one else see and demonstrate where and how the Old Testament points to Jesus as Lord & Savior. This is a remarkable book.
