My father murdered his twin sister and devastated his kingdom. All it would take is for him to go back on his word, and I might become the means of how he gets his revenge. This Wicked Bond is an enemies-to-lovers tale featuring a morally gray, shifter hero with a slew of red flags. The world is dark, but it’s also full of adventure and magic. This story is a spellbinding fusion of Robin Hood, dragons, and monsters, and takes place within Amanda Aggie’s Seven Realms World.
Best known for her #1 Amazon bestselling series, Dark Halos, Amanda Aggie has many titles.
She's a wife, a mother to two beautiful tiny humans, a Mexican food connoisseur, and lives in SW Missouri. She’s a non-recovering caffeine addict, and more importantly, she writes choking hazard, fantasy romance. Her books will have you laughing out loud, swooning, and biting your nails all in one sitting.
The story revolves around a princess imprisoned by her father, the King of Solaria, to utilize her magic for his own devices. Circumstances shift and her singular friend and guard manages to fake her death and allows her to escape. Unexpectedly, she finds herself in the company of a shifter rebel with a life debt owed to the dungeon warden. A rebel who happens to hate her father and does not trust her story entirely. This is a soft enemies-to-lovers story of the princess and the shifter embarking on a journey to escape Solaria.
"This Wicked Bond" proved to be an irresistibly entertaining read that I had trouble putting down. I especially adored Calamity. Since she was imprisoned since childhood, her excitement was so charming as she experienced the world outside of her prison for the first time. The enigmatic Loric and his merry band of rebels created an amazing found family dynamic. I loved getting to know them all. All of the relationships were a highlight, and the connections between characters, especially Calamity and Loric, were incredibly enjoyable.
The exploration of shifter dynamics, particularly the relationships between shifters and their inner beasts, was incredibly intriguing. The inclusion of a disabled character and the softer shifter dynamics enhanced the richness of the world-building.
While the soft magic system had some seemingly ill-defined rules, and the ending felt somewhat rushed with off-page action, the overall experience remained enjoyable. The novel offered a super fun and easy read, leaving me thoroughly entertained.
Thank you to BOMM/R&R booktours and the author for the eARC. This is an honest review.
This Wicked Bond is my second read from Amanda Aggie and it is the third book in the Realm of Monsters series of fantasy romance standalones set in the same world.
In this book, we have Calamity, a princess who has spent her entire life in her father’s dungeon, only seeing him for yearly torture sessions on her birthday. When her birthday comes around this year, rather than sitting and taking it, Calamity uses her mysterious powers try to kill the king.
Now with the help of a mysterious, broody stranger, Calamity is being smuggled out of the kingdom in order to keep herself safe.
I really enjoyed Calamity — she reminded me a bit of Rapunzel’s character in Tangled with her innocence and awe of the outside world, but yet she was a unique, badass character.
And we have Loric, a disgraced dragon shifter who is coerced into helping Calamity escape. Loric and Calamity’s chemistry is electric from the start, despite the circumstances. This is a very well developed, complex story with twists and turns that keep you burning through the pages.
I love all things dragon and the story of Robin Hood so I was super excited to read This Wicked Bond. I loved EVERYTHING about this book! I have enjoyed the world-building in books 1 and 2 and that has continued here as well. The characters were phenomenal, Aggie's description of the King in chapter one sent chills down my spine! I love a found family group and Aggie has a way of fleshing them out to perfection so that you feel like you know each member. The banter between members and themselves was fun and the romance I'll leave for you to find out about when you read it *hint hint*. If you like any of these, this book is definitely for you:
• Robin Hood • Morally gray heroes • Dragon shifters • Forced proximity • Enemies-to-lovers • Dark romantasy
This is my second Amanda Aggie book and I am absolutely in love with this universe she has created. This Wicked Curse has a special place in my heart and so far still holds the top rank of my fav, but this one was a great addition to the series. It was Rapunzel meets Robin Hood but dragons and shifters and like heck yes. I love that the books I’ve read in this series so far are an adventure. You truly do get swept away in the story and the characters, as well as the love that blossoms between the leads, which is a level of enemies to lovers.
This read was for miss ladeda. I really liked this book! I loved how the plot of this story was so different from a lot of other books. It was such an interesting read with bonds, strong female characters, and such an interesting world. So easy to read and get into as well loved it !
What an interesting concept. This story had all of the makings of a fantasy, an epic sweeping world, magic and magical creatures, shifters (DRAGON SHIFTERS 😍). I couldn't get enough.
I really enjoyed the characters personalities. Calamity is strong and willing to jump into a situation but find a way to keep herself safe. Loric started out sort of cold but ended up being such a caring protector... ☺️
Definitely grab this book if you love a good shifter fantasy romance. It was enjoyable and there is just so much more story to tell!
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Dragons, shifters, mated bonds… what more can you want. I ate this up. It’s impressive how this author can tell such an enjoyable story in under 400 pages?? I’m out of my book slump & feeling ready to go
Read if you like: Enemies-to-lovers Dragon shifters Magical bonds Morally gray hero Fated mates Forced proximity Found family Banter for DAYS
What can I say, I'm a sucker for this series! I've always known I should stay far far far away from shifter romances cause I know myself and I know it's easy to fall down a black hole when I'm obsessed with something... and well... as I suspected, I'M OBSESSED. Honestly, give me all the shifter romances cause I need more, thank you.
Amanda Aggie writes in a way that I just love. I laugh, I'm on the edge of my seat, I swoon, I get all the butterflies, it's just so good. She also writes amazing banter which is a must for me in a read. So yeah, it's probably impossible for me to not like a book in this series.
In this one, the tension between our MCs got me so good. The way they were fighting it because of their beast was just the best thing ever and it still ended up being a slow burn which let it all build up and I was there for it! It let for funny and cute scenes to happen in between and it was awesome. I just have to say that I want Loric in my life please, he was so perfect and you are telling me he can help me sleep and visit my dreams.... I mean, yes please. Isn't it the best deal ever for an insomniac!
Even though all of this story happened on a short period, it was still easy to understand the feelings evolving quickly. I enjoyed the difference between the character and their beasts, it was a fun contrast. And the fact that they even had great banter with themselves was just great, haha! The story was really interesting and kept me hooked from start to finish (yep, read it in one sitting). I love how we discover more and more of the world in each book. Every story is so different in a way but you still get that feeling of returning to a place you know when you start it and it's so easy to dive right into it.
I am a big fan of Robin Hood (did anyone ever watch the BBC series? because I was obsessed with it. No? Just me? Didn't know Richard Armitage was Gisborne before he even was a Hobbit? What a shame..) Anyways, I loved the little references there were in there and even though it's far from the real story, I always enjoy loose retellings A LOT! It's fun to see these little glimpses of inspiration here and there.
My only small tiny little complaint about this book is... it ended too fast hahaha!
Just do yourself a favor and read this whole series! You won't regret it!
Thanks to the author for the eARC, I was literally dying to read this one! All opinions are my own.
Rating: 5/5 Penguins Quick Reasons: dragon shifters; fated mates; never cats; slow burn to MAJOR steam; entertaining; all action all the time; I want to LIVE in this world
HUGE thanks to Amanda Aggie and R&R Book Tours for the title! My review is voluntary.
Let me tell y'all, the amount of SQUEALING that came out of this Penguin's beak during reading was OUTTA this Antarctica. This book has everything a sexy romance lover could ever possibly want: fated mates, dragon shifters, slow burn, enemies to lovers, all action all the time.... I really want to just pick myself up and plop myself into this world for the rest of eternity!
The hand he has at my lower back twists into the tied strings of my corset, pulling it slightly tighter. It knocks a huff of air from my lungs as he leads me down the cobblestone road, not caring that everyone behind us can see what he's doing.
“The purpose of those strings is not for it to be used as a leash,” I grumble, my features going flat.
On top of all the above, the world building is descriptive, vivid and gorgeous. The characters are both bratty and so lovable you'll want to put them in your pockets and take them home. The dialogue is believable, filled to the brim with wit and snark. Amanda Aggie wove a journey of adventure, danger, self discovery, and the finding of family effortlessly, and I am SCREAMING needing more of this world ASAP!
"You can't say things like that to me..." He shakes his head, his eyes darkening. "As is, I'm drowning like I don't know how to swim. So, trust me when I say your heart won't be the only one breaking tomorrow, Calamity."
If This Wicked Bond was NOT on your TBR for 2024, I strongly urge you to put it there IMMEDIATELY. There's steam, there's believable dialogue, there's romance that will make you swoon, there's enough snark to power the world for at least 5 years.... this read is WELL worth it, Penguins. Are you ready to find out who lurks just beneath the skin?
I received This Wicked Bond in return for an honest review from the author.
In this book we are introduced to Calamity a princess who has been locked away since until she's rescued by Loric a dragon shifter and his friends. I love Calamity she's just adorable as she discovers the world for the first time. I love Loric he's a little broody but after everything he's endured I totally get it. I love the chemistry between Calamity and Loric is sweet and so very steamy!
This is the third installment in the Realm of Monsters series and it may be my favorite of three so far. I love the characters in the story but Calamity is my favorite she's just amazing and I loved her so much. I really enjoyed the concept for this one and finding more about the realms and the dragon shifters. I really enjoyed the unique Robin Hood elements in the story it was interesting.
This Wicked Bond is a captivating whirlwind adventure that captures my heart as well as my imagination. I ended up devouring the story in just a few quick reading sessions only because real life got in the way. Otherwise I would have finish it in just one afternoon it's just so good and I couldn't put it down. This Twisted Bond is a beautiful story with monsters, morally gray romance and just enough spice blended perfectly.
Amanda Aggie’s ‘This Wicked Bond’ is the third installment in the Realm of Monsters series, a collection of stand-alone fantasy novels that weave an intricate world of intrigue and magic. Despite embarking on this journey with book three, I found myself effortlessly immersed in its rich narrative, without feeling lost or disconnected from the overarching story.
Aggie introduces us to Calamity, a character whose innocence and sheltered life paint a vivid contrast against Loric, the brooding, enigmatic stranger dedicated to her safety. Their dynamic is electric – a blend of intense chemistry and witty banter that leaps off the page, their story making me swoon and giggle like a schoolgirl.
What truly sets ‘This Wicked Bond’ apart is Aggie’s captivating writing style. It’s like a literary siren song, pulling you into the depths of the world she built. I found myself surrendering an entire evening, spellbound, as I devoured the book in one sitting. The experience left me eagerly anticipating diving into the other two books in the series. Aggie’s world is one I’m not ready to leave behind – her storytelling doesn’t just entertain; it enchants.
Thank you so much to Amanda Aggie and @bookofmatchesmedia for the ARC opportunity!
Fast-packed and action-packed! I was sucked in from the start.
I absolutely loved Loric and Calamity! Loric was grumpy, broody, and a morally grey kind-hearted alpha. Calamity was fierce, courageous, yet sweet and all kinds of fun! I enjoyed watching Calamity come into her own and discover who she was. Their relationship was a fun push and pull from the characters full of banter and loads of tension. The story itself was riddled with twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. My only issue was the ending came too soon! I wanted so much more!!
Some great tropes found here are:
-dragon shifters -light enemies to lovers vibes -monsters -action-packed -touch her/him and ☠️ -swoon-worthy MMC -banter -fated mates -angst
I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by this book! Immediately ran and downloaded the first 2 books. I don’t care how old I am, if dragons & shifters are involved I will read the book. This is so beautifully written with immersive descriptions, fabulous character development, and a world completely its own. Thank you to Amanda Aggie for writing such an incredible tale!
Loric and Calamity are everything!!!!! This book was fantastic! The world had me hooked from the start and I loved all the characters! Loric was perfection and I loved his POV the most!!! I cannot wait to continue reading the rest of the series and read more books in this world!
This was my first read from this author, and while I enjoyed some elements of the book I don't think it works well as a standalone book. It's insisted in several places that although this series is interconnected, they can be read in any order, and that although it links up with previous series' and there are some characters returning, you don't need to have read the previous series to start these books. This didn't feel like the case to me, as there was very little worldbuilding, and what there was felt halfhearted, almost as though it was just refreshing bits that you knew from previous books, rather than joining this world for the first time.
As a result, this took me out of the story quite a bit, and I struggled to follow the story and understand what was going on for about the first 50%. There were more explanations later in the book, and I finally felt like I was getting the hang of the geography and history of the realm, and suddenly the plot went wild and everything happened all at once.
I think if you have enjoyed the other books in the series, this would be a great addition to the universe, but I think it doesn't work as a standalone in that sense. I am intrigued about some of the other characters, so I will look into the other books and probably read a few of them for more of this world, but I wish I had started with an earlier book so I wouldn't have wasted so much of this book being confused.
Calamity Midicious has never known anything other than the lonely, drab dungeon, locked away, dreaming of the moment she can taste the fresh air and travel across the realms. On her birthday each year, she's forced into a white room, and experimented upon, her father, the tyrannical king of Solaria, is determined to hone her powers for his own, but when she takes her chance to enact revenge, taking one of his lives in the process, she finds herself due to be executed. Determined to keep her alive, her best friend, and master of the dungeons sends her off with a band of misfit rebels, torn between childlike wonder at the world suddenly at her feet, and trepidation towards these strange and potentially dangerous people she's been forced to trust, Calamity has to be decide which is the lesser of two evils.
Loric, the leader of this merry band, is a grump to say the least, forever on his guard, he finds his new charge incredibly frustrating and the last thing he needs. However, as new, scintillating and earth shattering truths come to light, and both fight their inner beasts who are inexplicably drawn to each other, they begin to questions everything they know and feel.
This was so action packed, intriguing and full of steamy and delicious tension, with a broody and grumpy dragon shifter MMC, who has a vulnerable and tender side he keeps hidden alongside the pain he carries from his past, and a bad-ass, warm hearted FMC who oozes child like endearment with a dark and fierce beast, deep within her, raring to get out and protect this wonderous young girl, from being manipulated or harmed. The side characters were also such a treat, they were all so hilarious and bursting with personality, it was so fun to see them interacting and bantering with one another.
Don't get me started on the tension... it was so insanely delicious and enticing, keeping you constantly on edge, and kicking your feet with how electrifying it is. It was really intriguing to see Loric and Calamity both warring internally with their shifter sides, especially when their desire towards each other reached dizzying heights, and the story had such a refreshing and novel take on mate bonds, that had me so enraptured. Calamity was such an endearing and wonderful character, alight with happiness, and exuding innocence to have escaped the dungeon but she still has a cautious side to her, from her past experiences, she finds trusting anyone she comes into contact with difficult. Desperately trying to figure out her powers, and this other half of her that's been stuck inside her for so long, the complete opposite of herself, dark, ruthless, and fierce, she takes what she wants and ensures their safety at any cost. I am fully obsessed with snarky, sarcastic and perpetually smirking Loric, he embodies sin but with a light, considerate and tender undertone he keeps firmly locked away, it's hard not to swoon and fall for this intensely broody but insanely hot man.
I would've maybe liked a bit more interaction between Calamity and her other half, but I did enjoy the small snippets of their personalities clashing and the snarky comments between them.
Overall though, this was an exceptional addition to this series, that continues to give you an escape to a realm full of characters bursting with life, and personality, plot twists that'll have you gasping and tension that is so delectable and steamy, it'll make you giddy.
Calamity has lived in the dungeon all her life. Her father, the King of Solaria, is a Druid and mimics other people’s magical abilities. Calamity is the first he cannot gain access to. Calamity’s father tests her each year to try to gain access to her magic. This time, Calamity has decided to kill her father. However, things go awry and she is scheduled to be killed in a week. Her guard Asmodeus decides to help her escape by calling a debt from a former friend named Loric who takes the princess in and takes her to the outer lands. While traveling with Loric and his friends, Calamtiy wonders whether she can trust them, especially Loric and his annoyingly handsome face.
This is my favorite in the series so far! I mean who knew I needed dragon shifters in my life? 😂, specifically Loric 👀 I just adored the story, the adventure, learning who Calamity is along with her, the found family that slowly develops, and not to mention the beautiful romance 🥰
My favorite thing about this book would be the romance…surprise surprise 😂 However, I loved the way it developed. They are these complete strangers, Loric basically hates Calamity because of who she is and who her father is, then there’s Calamity who has NEVER been outside and has to travel with strangers who hate her and she has to figure out who she is, and where to go and whether to trust these people who cannot stand her. And then as they travel together and are forced to be in an underground bunker for a few days, that close proximity causes everyone to learn more about each other, especially about Calamity. And with Loric and Calamity already having that tension between each other, you know something is bound to happen! You watch Loric’s stoicism slowly come down and his beast just wants Calamity and is annoyingly telling him to be with her and Calamity is trying to stay away, the tension was golden and I just wanted them to kiss already 😂
Loric was my favorite in this book. His loyalty, protectiveness and broodiness I loved, but I loved how tender he was with Calamity. As he slowly allowed his walls to come down and realize he truly cared for Calamity, his interactions with her just melted my heart and made me want to cry. I just loved how he treated her, and I just adored this romance and the two of them so much 😭
There are some great twists in here too that made me gasp, which is ALWAYS a good thing and made for a great story!
One thing I will say is I wish Calamity showed more excitability being outside after literally never being out there ever. She kind of was just eh about being outside and I expected more reaction. That didn’t deter from the story by any means, I just expected a bit more something being outside for the first time 😅
I’m not sure how any next book could top this one, but you never know! I received a digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you so much to @amandaaggieauthor & @bookofmatchesmedia for my gifted eARC of 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐎𝐍𝐃!
Amanda does it again! I have been completely obsessed with all of the Realm of Monsters books and This Wicked Bond is probably my favorite so far. Calamity and Loric are so amazing and I loved their story so much. I was living for the Tangled and Robin Hood vibes and thought Amanda did such an incredible job of weaving elements together from these two fairytales to create a new and unique story!
Calamity, our princess FMC who’s been raised in a dungeon for her whole life, and Loric, our dark and broody Dragon shifter, are my favorite EVER. In an attempt to flee her life as a prisoner, she finds herself in a group of rebels, led by Loric.
Their chemistry was immediate and so deliciously intense. I loved their banter and interactions, and the tension between them was perfect! I LOVED seeing Calamity’s character growth throughout the book and loved seeing her grow more confident in herself. Loric is strong, dark, and broody and I loved that he’s a dragon shifter. This book has so many things I love in a good fantasy romance, and one of those things is DRAGONS! I loved learning more about them since they’ve been alluded to in the books before this one!
This book was wonderfully written, paced perfectly, and was nonstop action, fun, heartbreak, and romance. I felt all the emotions, and there were times I giggled out loud to myself, but there were also times I found myself tearing up. This was one of those books I absolutely devoured, but didn’t want to end at the same time. Amanda Aggie is quickly becoming one of my auto-buy authors, and I’m loving this world, the characters, and these books so much!
I definitely recommend This Wicked Bond if you are a Fantasy Romance reader! Amanda Aggie is a master in writing this genre, and you’ll absolutely fall in love with this book and world once you read this!
🐉✨𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐅 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄...✨🐉 🔥Dragon Shifters ✨Mate Bonds 🔥Found Family ✨Enemies to Lovers 🔥Monstrous FMC ✨Escaping an Arranged Marriage 🔥Magical Rituals ✨Forced Proximity
Read this if you like - ✔️Dragon shifters ✔️Mate bonds ✔️One horse ✔️Dislike to lovers ✔️Slow Burn ✔️Witty banter ✔️Grumpy protective MMC ✔️Snarky FMC ✔️Found identity/discovery of powers ✔️Funny side characters
Let me start by saying while it’s not a requirement, you should read the Dark Halos trilogy first as it helps build the world this series is set in and introduces the realm and a few of the characters.
The FMC, Calamity, is the daughter of a tyrant king but also his prisoner. He’s kept her in a dungeon her whole life thus far, only allowing her out once a year to experiment on her to manipulate her power. She is eventually freed by the dungeon keeper, Asmo, who you meet in other books from this universe (Dark Halos trilogy & A Fated Vow).
Calamity is entrusted to the protection of the MMC, Loric, and his band of rebels. I won’t go into much more detail than that because there’s a lot of revelations in this book and I don’t want to ruin anything but it’s all done so well.
Calamity learns some big things about herself and her parentage that impacts their plans. At one point they’re stranded in a cave/inn under a tavern for 3 days and while there are plenty of beds, they ~obviously~ find a reason to share 😏
Despite the close proximity, it is still a slower burn and a good balance of plot and romance. Honestly this book could’ve been a duet and I would have been so happy. The ending did seem rushed and could’ve easily led us into a cliffy with a second book because I wanted more of the dragon shifter world and more of Calamity and Loric. That’s probably the only reason this is a 4.5 and not a 5. Still a fantastic read and one I could see myself coming back to one day.
🗣️ “Unfortunately, we were all out of capes in the dungeon. I’ll remember that next time I frantically escape prison to run amok with strangers in the woods.”
🗣️ “You know what, don’t cry to me when you finally decide to use that thing between your legs again and you cum dust.”
🗣️ “I’ll spend every moment of my life putting you on a pedestal, fighting to put that crown on your head. You’ll bow for no one, because there is no one in this realm more powerful than you, but when you’re on your knees and I’m between these lips, you’ll look at me like I’m your fucking king.”
This is the third book in the Realm of Monster series, and OMG!! I’ve truly loved them all but I won’t deny that dragons have always been my favorite mythical creature and Amanda Aggie did not disappoint with this book!!
In this Realm of Monsters, we meet Calamity. One of the kings daughters who has been locked away due to her volatile but powerful magic. But when a plot to escape her life of never ending torture goes awry, one of the few people in her life who cares for her is forced to help her escape. And while freedom is all Calamity has ever wanted when face to face with Loric, the broody rebel who has agreed to get her to safety, she begins to learn that the freedom she has always wished for… comes at a price. The plot of this story was truly a 5/5 and kept me reading into the wee morning hours!
I adored the characters of this book! Calamity, (and what a great name that is), is everything I look for in a MFC! She has dealt with more trauma in her short life at the hands of someone who should’ve cared for her than any one person should be able to handle, and that could’ve made her hardened to the world… instead Calamity is open minded, curious, and still brimming with love for those around her! Also she handled all the new things, experience, and knowledge thrown at her remarkably!! And of course who couldn’t love Loric, the morally grey MMC who is willing to risk it all to help those around him, those who should’ve been protected but instead were left behind, and when Calamity enters his life he becomes the perfect mess of a grumpy, possessive, alpha hole that you just can’t help but swoon over! Not to mention their little rag tag group of misfits that create the perfect found family and how can you not love all these characters! Honestly, if remarkable character driven writing is what you love in your books then this is the book for you!
If you’re looking for an amazing romantasy novel, filled with amazing characters, banter for day, action, adventure, a fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, assumed enemies to lovers romance, and just the right about of angst and spice than this is absolutely the book for you!
The minute I read ‘dragon shifter’ in the synopsis, I knew I had to read this and I wasn’t disappointed!
Our FMC Calamity has spent her life held captive in her father’s dungeon, only surfacing on her birthday each year to be experimented on in a bid for the King to claim her power. When the king sentences her to death, the dungeon warden engineers Calamity’s escape and entrusts the handsome and mysterious Loric to get her to safety. Forced into close proximity, Calamity and Loric are drawn to each other despite their best intentions and as the secrets of Calamity’s powers come to light, they must battle their hearts as well as the danger lurking behind every corner . . .
I absolutely adored this one! It ticks all of my fantasy boxes and tropes – enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, fated mates, forced proximity, hidden powers and did I mention dragon shifters? The world building is brilliantly executed and unique and I was entranced by The Seven Realms and their inhabitants.
Calamity is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her for it. She’s strong, independent and kick a$$ and her banter with Loric was chef’s kiss! Loric stole my heart. I’ve got a weakness for growly, protective heroes with a heart of gold. Add in some shifting abilities and low-slung trousers to the mix and you have my perfect book boyfriend! Their slow burn chemistry was fire with just the right amount of angst, and it built up into a deliciously spicy crescendo that was well worth the wait.
There’s a great found family theme throughout the book and it was lovely to watch Loric’s friends warm to Calamity and give her the family connection and sense of belonging that she’d been denied her whole life.
This Wicked Bond is book 3 in the Realm of Monsters series, but it’s a standalone and reads perfectly on its own. After finishing it, I instantly downloaded the first two books as I can’t wait to dive back into this world.
This Wicked Bond is a captivating, addictive and devastatingly romantic tale that kept me up reading way past my bedtime! I highly recommend it to all fantasy fans.

What a great book to start my 2024 reading off with! This Wicked Bond is book three in the Realm of Monsters series. Each book is a complete standalone within a shared world. I abso-freaking-lutely loved this one. I'm pretty sure it's my favorite it the series so far! I'm so sad that it's a standalone. I'm going to need all the Calamity and Loric. The author, Amanda Aggie, did such a wonderful job with the writing. I felt completely immersed in this world. I was captivated by this story that holds so much that I love. Two of my favorite tropes, enemies-to-lovers and found family. Magic and dragons. I really loved reading about where the dragons live! I also enjoyed the banter! There were times I literally giggled out loud to myself. 😆 I loved every second of it and did not want to put it down, while also just wanting to take my time and enjoy the read. There were parts in the beginning that gave me a bit of a Tangled vibe, not sure if that was intentional or not, but I'm here for it! Things at the end did feel slightly rushed. I'm so sad that it's over. I'm not ready for their story to end! There's at least a couple of things I'm left wondering about, but maybe I'll find answers to those in a future book!
I definitely recommend checking this one out and the other two books in the Realm of Monsters series if you're a fan of dark fantasy! I've loved all three books thus far!
🐉 This Wicked Bond by @amandaaggie 🐉 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 (4.5)
Thank you RR for my copy of this book. I am going to be posting the book tour for this tomorrow but for now let me just share my thoughts on this book. ✨
I heard so many great things about this series so it was no surprise that I enjoyed reading it. The story talks about Calamity (such a unique name right?) who is a princess that spent all her life in her father's dungeon. Every year like clockwork his father takes him to this special room where he gets experimented on and tortured. Now when her birthday came around this said year - she used all of her powers to kill the king. Then from there, the adventure began.
This story was fast paced and I enjoyed the interesting concept of its world, the magic system and how it felt like it was the story of Rapunzel plus Robin Hood at the same time. Of course, I loved the banter between Calamity and Loric. It was so cute whenever he called her Chaos. I also liked how Calamity was able to build relationships with Loric's friends. I also liked Amanda's writing (I'm not expert so I can't dissect it but all I know is I enjoyed it. LOL. I wasn't rolling my eyes or cringing or anything.)
I am so excited to see how Amanda continues this world with her other two books. So I am definitely gonna jump into the two other books under this series.
Although I’m a huge fan of the previous books in this series of standalones, This Wicked Bond by indie author Amanda Aggie has just become my new favourite! This NA fantasy romance is full of twists & turns, as well as a *very* delightful morally grey dragon shifter...
Calamity knows no other world than the room of her imprisonment, having lived her entire life in a dungeon. In fact, the only time she’s ever walked the halls of the castle is when her father, the King of Solaria, needs her magic to prolong his life. But when Calamity attempts to bring down the King of Monsters & fails, she’s forced to flee into the unknown. Although she’s met by a shifter thief who owes a life debt to a friend, Calamity knows she can’t trust anyone. Can Loric prove himself to this forgotten princess, or is his hatred of the king too strong? What secret is hidden within Calamity’s heritage? And what happens when they must enter a realm of certain death?
In This Wicked Bond we get enemies to lovers, fated mates & only one bed. But they’re not the only delicious goodies awaiting readers in this NA fantasy romance! I won’t give away everything, but suffice to say: if you want a joyous & dangerous romantasy read? Amanda Aggie has to be one of your auto-buy authors...
I’m totally in my Dragon Era and JUST finished This Wicked Bond and put this one on your list NOW if it’s not there already. Author Amanda Aggie is a general delight and her work is even better.
Although this is the third book in a series, it is a standalone. And the only thing I felt I was missing was actually getting the joy of this authors writing sooner.
Following the story of Calamity (what a GREAT name for this FMC) a king’s daughter who has been locked away because of her powerful and volatile magic. A plot to escape her torture goes wrong and she has to rely on Logic, a broody rebel who agrees to get her to safety.
Although she’s been through a lot, Calamity is still a character you want to root for all the way through with her can-do attitude and her open mindedness. Loric is a great foil for her and your palms just itch to turn the pages faster while reading because you want to know what is going to happen between these two! The banter is so very swoony and I loved every moment of it.
Tropes to note: ❤️Forced proximity (you know its my FAVE) 🐉 Dragons 🔪Enemies to lovers 🌟Magic 👨👩👦👦Found family
I cannot wait to pick up the first two books in the series and dive back in. Thank you BookOfMatchesMedia Amanda Aggie for the free copy of the book for my honest review.
We've got a princess locked in the dungeon of her father's castle. Until she wasn't. ENTER: the "six-foot something, dark-haired, silver-eyed, atrociously handsome man with a knack for getting under the FMC's skin," and his band of friends.
What to Expect: -Dragon shifters -One horse -One bed -Angst -Tension -Adorable sarcastic banter -Cute nicknames, -Found family -Magical Bonds -Who hurt you? -Enemies-to-Lovers -Spicy Dream Manipulation -Morally Grey Hero -Crew of Thieves -Robin Hood Inspired
I know 2024 just started, but this book is DEFINITELY going to be in my top reads for the year. EASY. I was so sad when this book was over. It definitely gave me a bit of a book hangover, but the best kind.
I want so much more of this story and am sad that it was only in one book. Maybe that's because I haven't read the first 2 books in the stand-alone series. So, I will definitely be going back to read books 1 and 2! The plus side to this book is that it all "wraps up" at the end. I'll be thinking of this book for a while.
This book also gives new meaning to 'inner dialogue' and I loved it. You'll know what I mean if you read it! It wasn't the slowest slow burn I've read, but it definitely took a bit to get there. I'd give it maybe 2.5-3/5 on the spice level. Graphic (18+), but not many spicy scenes. Even though I like my books spicy, this one is perfect, just the way it is. There are also several trigger warnings. So, I recommend reading those if you need to.
This started out intriguing with how Calamity was never to be married off but was hidden away from the world. This was different from the previous books and I was excited to see where it led!
We got to see Calamity trying to acclimate to her surroundings bravely and never let anyone bring her down and walk over her. Loved her for this! Her alter ego was a pleasant surprise and I was fascinated by the difference between them. I will always love a character who loves to read!!
Loric is way too adorable! I loved the dynamic with his pack and the way he treated Calamity. We were introduced to a rowdy bunch with fun characters who filled the book with sarcastic quips and banter! What’s not to love?
The shifters conversing with their beasts was so much fun! I loved how they were separate from the shifter and had a distinct personality. Their main objective seemed to be to annoy their shifter and I enjoyed every second of it!
Tropes to love: 🐉 Dragon shifters 🐉 Mate bonds 🐉 Found family 🐉 Enemies to lovers 🐉 Monstrous FMC 🐉 Magical rituals 🐉 Forced proximity 🐉 One bed
This was like a light read where nothing much happened. She escaped death with the help of Loric; there was banter, a little saving/helping; forced proximity leading to interesting revelations but it felt like nothing led anywhere. The ending felt underwhelming as well…🫠
I’m very grateful for a HEA ending since cliffhangers hurt.🥺
Thank you to the author and BOMM for sending me a copy to review!
I love how each story of this series so far has similar themes, but each have their own unique twist. This book was an adventure inspired by Robin Hood with some Rapunzel vibes as well. Calamity has been imprisoned her entire life and was surprisingly feisty for someone who has only seen the inside of a cell. I loved watching her discover more about the world and herself while trying to navigate life outside the dungeons.
While reading this book, I kept picturing Robin from Once Upon a Time, so that’s who I’m now fan-casting as Loric in this book. I admired Loric’s loyalty to his friends and people and protectiveness of Calamity. He is patient with her in revealing secrets she didn’t even know about herself, and is drawn to her in a way that can only be described as magical.
This book had me questioning my intelligence because I didn’t predict anything!! Amanda really knows how to keep you on your toes until the very end, and I’m glad for it!
A few things I would have like to see more of was the actual dragon realm and Calamity training and learning more about her powers. I wish there was more practice to really see her work through her new discovery. I would have loved if Loric was the one to help her here. We would have gotten some more tension that would have elevated their relationship. Everything that happened once they got to the dragon realm felt rushed, so I would have appreciated more time there to understand the politics and backstory of what was happening.
