This one is a rare gem, exploring how to approach life with adaptability, curiosity, and practical intelligence.
Inspired by the metaphor of a fox, which relies on different strategies to navigate complex environments, the book inspires readers to embrace flexibility and open-mindedness in decision-making.
It combines philosophical insights with practical advice for leading a fulfilling and adventurous life. And, definitely, a thought-provoking read.

Life-changing, thought-provoking, and intelligent!

Zvi Lanir, Ph.D., is the founding president of the Praxis Institute. For more than three decades, the Praxis Institute has specialized in a variety of aspects of coping with disruptive change in personal, social, economic, and strategic domains. He is the author of several books on the subject. He has been conducting multidisciplinary research for the past 15 years with the goal of illuminating the knowledge gaps that exist between the conventional understanding of aging and the new possibilities for living differently in our later years. Dr. Lanir attended and graduated from the Command and Staff College of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He received his doctorate in philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has taught as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York.

To clarify how we control our thoughts and actions, the author of "Thinking Like a Fox" compares and contrasts the Hedgehog and the Fox. He uses examples from his research, engrossing tales, and profound yet beneficial philosophies to illustrate the value of being a fox in this age of disruption and constant change. He does this by expressing complex ideas in simple, direct language. The book also describes adventure as having the courage to take chances in life without worrying about being rejected or failing. This book contains a lot of thought-provoking material, but it is written in a friendly and engaging style.

Anyone seeking an uplifting, inspiring, and life-altering experience would do well to read this book. The insights you receive from this book are both uniquely yours and potentially transformative. Very highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

‘Dealing with the 21st century world in a practical foxish way’ - Great insights

Israeli author Zvi Lanir earned his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is the founding president of the Praxis Institute, specializing in coping with disruptive change in personal, social, economic and strategic domains. As is evident in his book - THINKING LIKE A FOX, translated from the Hebrew by Adi Kafri. - Dr. Lanir brings these issues into focus as we face this age of disruption and constant change.

The lilting atmosphere of this fine book is evident as the author invites the reader into his line of comparative thinking, sharing his happy response to reading Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’ - Napoleon’s invasion of and eventual retreat from Moscow - as a story of foxes (the old Russian general Kutuzov) and hedgehogs (Napoleon). Using the reference point, the book is divided into four sections: Why and what is a fox?, The foxlike intelligence, The foxish intelligence in action, and How to strengthen our inherent foxishness. In drawing his comparisons to the two ways of thinking, he adds such informative ideas as ‘While the hedgehog is satisfied with what the experts have to say, foxes search for answers mainly in their inner consciousness and through what they have learned from their own experience.’ Through entertaining and informative notes, easy and delightful to read and absorb, Dr. Lanir offers transformative information for traversing this ever-changing world (climate crisis, global warming, life expectancy revolution, pandemic, etc) by thinking and reacting like a fox! This is an enlightening and entertaining guide for discovering and utilizing our own practical knowledge. Very highly recommended.

An interesting and engaging book. Partly Self Help, partly biography, full of valid points and well worth reading although I won't pretend that I understood all of it (caused some "head scratching") so will require some re-reading. Obviously those bits were a bit above my "pay grade" but you may well see what I missed. My suggestion is, definately give it a go, if nothing else you'll learn the difference between foxes and hedgehogs!

The book compares the mentalities between a fox and a hedgehog, using examples to clarify the points. The book is technical and has a very clear audience.
