Daddies are supposed to be fierce and strong. Protectors of their boys.
But what happens when Daddy is the one who needs taken care of?
Stupid, unwritten rules.
Pfft.
Who came up with them anyway?
Daddy needs me now more than ever and I’m gonna be there for him just like he’s always been for me. Darn the rules, we’re a family and that matters most.

Touching story where a tragedy results in major adjustments to the relationship between the MCs. It was an interesting journey which felt very realistic and had a lot of depth. Rose was well written as well. I enjoyed the ending, it was a nice touch to have some details about what happened next.
I have read several of the author's books. I have two of them as some of my favorite books. But I didn't like this one. The writing did not seem to be by the same author. It was weird.
Although I like books that focus on the more detailed lives of the main characters, this one proved boring. I like the premise of the story, but I didn't like that it was melancholic from beginning to end. This was an emotional drama from start to finish. And even though I tried to put myself in that place of understanding the emotions of the characters who lost someone they loved, it was still difficult. Because the whole story centers on this. It's not a dark, gloomy, distressing novel, nothing like that. It's simply melancholy and still.
It took me longer than it normally would to finish a book of this length. I did it with willpower and boredom.
Even though I didn't like it, I don't think it's a bad book. It's just not for me. Yes, it needs a serious revision and if you don't notice this as you read, you will notice it in the epilogue, when the author changes the name of one of the main characters. This is an error that I cannot understand.
So there you have it, Noel and Canden, they are married and live the Daddy/Little lifestyle 24/7 (more or less). The book begins with Little Cammy, hearing her Daddy receive the news over the phone of her sister's death. From then on, their lives take a complete turn, as they are the legal guardians of Noel's sister's daughter, who is just 3 years old. They need to learn to deal with the pain of the absence of a lost loved one, to take care of a 3-year-old child and help her in the grieving process, in addition to that their lives change, when they also need to change cities and reduce the time spent Little de Canden, to take on other responsibilities. And that's the whole story. Drama.
I must have read a different version of the book than others because the only thing that kept me going with this story was wondering how this story could possibly get more strange. I understand the Daddy/boy kink. I enjoy their stories very much. Full time Daddy/boy? I can buy that. But honestly I just couldn't get into this adult boy playing full time with the 3 year old who comes to live with him and Daddy when Daddy's sister is killed. To know what I mean, you'd have to read it. Plus, the 3 year old spoke like she was a minimum of five or six, and that includes her decision-making skills and inquisitive questions.
I don't like to mention editing, or the lack thereof, but there were several incorrect word choices that a good editor would have spotted along with the fact that no one should go buy a loaf of bread to feed ducks. It would kill them. And not with kindness. It's the little things like this that an editor spots, not just the commas and spelling. And no one was listed in the front matter.
Overall, my rating is based on what I mentioned in my first paragraph and the fact that the story was less about the boy helping Daddy past his grief and more about both men adjusting to having a child in the house and then it moved to a focus almost completely on the child. The men's relationship was secondary to the story about the child.
I'm knew to this author so I'm not sure if there is a previous book for this couple or not but for this one it is obvious that the 2 MCs have been together awhile and have a very loving and solid relationship that can survive anything.
This book was sad but also super sweet. I was glad to see that Cam continued to be little even after they adopted Rose. I did question to myself how nobody on the outside questioned what was going on but I loved that for at least in this world the author went with a judgement free environment. They had enough other drama. They also had alot of love, hurt/comfort and heartwarming moments. I really loved the ending.
I loved both of the MCs and Rose was so adorable. Their chemisty was so strong. I'll definitely reread this many times.
The narrator did a good job. He expressed all the emotions well and was really good with Rose and Little Cams voice. I did wish there was more distinction between the 2 MCs regular voices. He also seemed a bit too young for the parts he was trying to play. Still it was a pretty good listen overall.
I had the honor of attending RARE23 in Melbourne in April and met author T. L. Travis and purchased this beautiful book. The cover was so emotional - it blew me. The words inside the cover were just as emotional. I couldn't put this book down. Daddy loses his sister suddenly to an aneurysm. Cam - his Little is suddenly (and willingly) thrust into the role of carer, comforter and leader in the activity of attending the town where Caroline lived. Not only to do all the funeral stuff but to also take over the care of Rose - the little daughter suddenly without a mother. To say Rose changes their lives is an understatement. She is a breath of fresh air and as the years go by the new family learns about a different kind of family life. I heartily recommend this book and really hope I can get to read more from this author.
Two books in a row for me that have dealt with grief... I need to find myself a RomCom or something that is humorous and paranormal... my heart needs a break! Yes, have the tissues ready... 🤷♀️
As all my friends know, I love books with kids in them and adored Rose... but, I felt like we had too much day-to-day life and then a warp-speed jump to the future! The MCs were wonderful and I liked how they interacted with each other, but this story seemed to be more about Rose than it was about Cam and Noel (which just happens to be my daddy's name!)
Don't write this story off though, it had MANY wonderful moments as we watched a daddy and a boy become full-time daddies to Rose. This world would be a better place if every child was as blessed to have two people who cared about them as much as Rose's daddies did for her.
This Book has some of the best characters I've ever read. TL TRAVIS takes Daddies and Littles to the next level. Noel is a Daddy through and through. Cam is a Little that can be a li'l naughty. They are a married couple enjoying their unique lifestyle. Tragedy brings them Princess Rose Petal. She is Noel's niece. This is about love, caring and living after your gut punched by life. Heartbreak, Love and adapting teaches them a new reality and how to go on. This has THE BEST epilogue I've ever experienced. This is a book you will carry in your heart. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I received a free ARC copy. This is my honest review and recommendation.
This story starts off with a tragic loss and changes the dynamics of Noel & Camdens relationship. Noel receives a call that his younger sister Caroline suddenly passed away & they need to go to Ohio to make arrangements but also take custody of Noel’s 3 yr old niece Rose….Noel was hurting & Cammy knew he needed to be strong & let Cam take over to help his hurting Daddy. Noel & Camden soon find out that their bond is even stronger and that Cammy can still come out & play with their Rose petal, they are a strong loving & beautiful family; but it’s sad it came with the loss of a sister, aunt & mother. I loved the whole story but Rosie speech at graduation was the best.
This one was a bit painful to listen to. Lack of mature writing skill. This wasn’t so much about daddy/boy and more about grief and adjusting to a child.
While I enjoy this genre, I find it a bit cringe to mix age gap play with a young child. I also don’t typically like children in my romance reads and would have avoided this one if it had been mentioned in the blurb.
Audio narrator was stilted and lacking in cadence. The audio sound was inconsistent with static at times and clear splice ins. There were also several fairly common words that were just flat out mispronounced.
A beautiful and unique view of, just, life. We have an already established couple, happy with their dynamic, who has to adjust to changes that life throws at them. We get to see their evolution, hear their thoughts, and witness how their HEA changes into something greater.
I don't think I've read another story like this one; this story definitely sets the bar high for future ones like it.
This was unlike any Daddy/little book I have read. I love how much time we see of their journey and what they tell us of before. And this was a journey, a very emotional one. It also shows that parts of it were something felt by the author which, while hurts my heart to feel, brought so much more depth to the read. Thank you TL Travis. I hope it was as cathartic for you as it was for me.❤️
I absolutely loved this story and couldn't put it down and it's wonderful handling of grief and family. The author gently leads the reader through strong emotions and healing, towards a satisfying ending. Grief can lead to negative thoughts but this author shows how it also bring about positive affirmation of family, and the family doesn't need to be husband and wife. Love in the family is what is important.
Ugh this was so sad and had me in tears several times. But this story is also filled with love, heart, sweetness, and a little naughtiness. I liked that Cam and Noel are an established couple and have a Daddy/little relationship. When tragedy strikes, Cam steps up and helps take care of his Daddy. Rose is such a little sweetheart. I loved how she and Cammy would play together. Great book.
This was such a wonderful heartfelt story. I laughed and cried, oh did I cry, so much throughout this story. I absolutely loved that this story took us through so many years and yet never felt rushed. This was such a different take on the daddy/little trope and it was done so beautifully. I truly enjoyed reading this.
Lots of grief and problem-solving, but not a lot of romance. I couldn't buy into this family's structure. Rose came across as a plot moppet. Specifically, a cute, well-mannered opportunity to write Cam/Cammy as friend/caregiver. I'd like to see a review from a reader who is both a lifestyle little and a coparent.
This book was good. Cam and Noel had the perfect life until they got some tragic news. This was sweet as these two learn how to adjust with life and still keep up their Daddy/boy lifestyle.
The sadness in the beginning only opens into love ...love a a little girl lost her mom but a little who thought he couldn't be little anymore But all good things to those who wait...And in this book they did
Have a box of tissues ready when you read this book, you'll need them several times! This book was so heart warming, with great characters and plot I couldn't put a down. You'll enjoy the read.
To be honest when I read the beginning of this story I wasn't sure If I'd be able to finish it, it was so very sad. But I got into it and am glad I read the whole thing. The little family the main characters created was adorable and the ending a very happy one.
I loved this story! Although it was tragic story and the MCs had to take in a child, I loved how they were able to build a relationship with the child. But also rebuild the relationship between the MCs!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
i really wanted to like this book but it is just so underwhelming like... the plot is more about adjusting to having a child than griefing, and it is so superficial daddy kink isnt even really relevant for the book, its just there
A sweet, low stakes romance. The last chapter just feels so rushed, cramming in 13ish years into no time at all. I probably could have just jumped from the birthday party to the epilogue with a very minimal segue.
I really enjoyed this story. It had to very loving men that adored each other and then tucked that little sweetheart into their lives. They are truly a special family. Such wonderful writing.
I love Daddies & Little but this one was a different - it was sad but sucked me into the story as Noel Cam & Rose grew together and laughed & cried together!!
When Daddy Hurts is an emotional book that grabbed my attention from the get-go. A different kind of story, this one is definitely a must-read from me.
