Levi Johnson: Mountain Man Scout: Sioux Warriors: A Mountain Man Adventure

Rate this book
The third adventure in a brand new Western series from Ash Lingam!

Levi Johnson and his good friend, the ex-army captain, Bill Forrester, move in with Rusty Steel in his mountain cabin. After the captain bested and killed the Sioux warrior during the battle; he lost his arm. Now, he has to learn everything again with his left hand. The captain felt he lost face with the six rugged mountain men who’ve lived on this isolated space of land in the Rockies for over a decade. Far away from prying eyes, the stakes suddenly shot sky high. The captain struggles to regain the respect he was given as an officer and a gentleman. Now, his years at West Point seemed as useless as a broken crutch.

Levi Johnson spied three dozen Sioux warriors in the forest. He had to assume they had come to attack the compound and kill the white men. They would take what was theirs, including the streams where they strung their beaver traps. They were angry because the white trappers had sold hundreds of what they considered their beaver pelts, and now the tribe was facing a brutal winter without enough food to go around. Their only option is to kill the trespassers and take back land they felt was theirs—that, along with the gold coins and the white man’s modern weapons.

Ash Lingam

Ash Lingam was born and raised in Southern Ohio, not far from the mighty Ohio River. He had somewhat of an isolated upbringing on a family farm with his sisters. His best friends were his horse, Sugar, and his grandfather.
Born in 1886, the family patriarch grew crops, raised cattle, and doted on the young boy. At his grandfather’s side, Ash learned about livestock and firearms at an early age. His grandad carried an old Colt with him at all times, helping spawn a young boy’s dreams of yesteryear.
Ash was only eight years old when his grandad taught him how to trap muskrats to prevent them from draining the farm’s ponds. He gave him a double-barreled shotgun at twelve and taught him how to hunt to put food on the table.
It wasn’t long before Ash was breaking horses. His spirited Tennessee Walker never allowed any other rider on her back. Together, they searched through the plowed fields in the spring, looking for Miami Indian arrowheads to add to his grandfather’s ample collection.
Ash’s family was among the early settlers in pre-Revolutionary America. He has traced his lineage back to around 1746 when his ancestors immigrated from Europe to the aspiring American Colonies.
A retired marketing executive, Ash devotes his spare time to training police dogs and writing novels. He has found his niche in the Western, historical fiction, and adventure genres. With his vast vault of experience, he never runs out of sources for new stories. He has lived in eleven different countries and worked in a total of forty-six,
To date, Ash has written approximately 130 novels, short stories, and poems. More than one hundred of his eclectic titles help the American frontier come alive for his readers.

Really disappointed

I read the first 3 books in this series, and I can't bring myself to read a fourth. I like the characters, but the action is slow, way too much repeating partial sections from earlier in the book, a vocabulary that just does not fit the mountain men or the Indians, and truly a story that is way to dragged out. I really enjoy reading stories about the mountain men and all their adventures, but this series disappoints.

The brother of Black Bear seeking revenge for his brother's death at the hands of Forrester plan to attack and wipe out the eight mountain men. Book was good although there was inconsistencies with the previous book. (Forrester loss his left arm in book 2 but it was his right in this one) also I don't think there's any lemon trees in the Rockies.

The author needs to do a bit of research. Nobody could shoot an elk at 1 mile with a Hawken rifle. Male elk are bulls, not bucks. The stories are ok, but the experience is tainted by the many errors. In the first book of the series, the author referenced a 250 pound mountain lion and a 1000 pound black bear. Ridiculous.

errors

I do not like the fact that Levi in the first 3 books has gone from 6’8” to 6’7” to 6’6”. Doesn’t anybody proof read these before publishing? And there is no such thing as a ‘buck’ elk! They are called bulls if they are male???
