Ms. Fleek is excited to begin her first year as a science teacher, but she can't find the key to the lab door. When she finally unlocks the door, strange things start happening to her and others who dare to enter Room 201.
But MJ doesn't really care to find out. While most stories would have the main character breaking into the classroom and discovering the secret the main character Nopes out. Which makes her have higher self preservation skills than most horror/mystery characters. Rm. 201 the key does build intrigue enough to continue the series.
This book is a high/low book with a lower reading level but a high interest level for kids who might be struggling with reading. The Key is about a girl in 7th grade. The publisher states that the book is for 2nd grade through 8th grade. It might be easy for a second grader to read the words but to understand the story line might take a more advanced reader. This is a great book for the struggling older reader to read. It is OK in the story line but it seems not to have a real ending. Since it is one book in a series I would like to think that they are all linked, but I do not have the series to be sure. It does have cursive on some of the pages so that might hinder or discourage some readers from this book, though not all high/low books have cursive in them. Overall it is an ok book for students to use but is mainly for the struggling older readers.
