The Predator's Stone

Rate this book
“Regrettably, girl, you are part of that prophecy, and now that I’ve met you, I wonder if I should start making my own funeral arrangements.” Abandoned at birth and shuffled through the system all her life, Cinder is on the verge of being expelled from yet another school. Despite high test scores and uncanny talents in gym class, Cinder’s records show a penchant for fighting, defiance, impulsivity, and “an unwillingness to develop appropriate decision-making skills”―whatever that means. When a lunch-time brawl breaks out in the cafeteria, Cinder gloomily prepares for what has become all-too familiar. This fight, however, won’t end like all the others. Allfather has dispatched his Predators, an elite team of bodyguards, to bring Cinder to the Proving Grounds, where she will be broken, disciplined, trained, and given her quest directive. Cinder may be in an alternate realm full of Valkyries, dark elves, and world-encircling serpents, but she still has a chip on her shoulder the size of Thor’s hammer, and she’s not about to let Odin or any other god push her around. Can Tristan, the galaxy’s most eligible boyfriend, help Cinder put the brakes on Ragnarök, or will the end of the world claim her life beneath a strip mall in Pismo, California?

If you're looking for a middle grade book with Percy Jackson vibes, this is it!

Stormbringer, the first book in The Predator's Stone series, has many great ingredients. It has Norse mythology, which I don't know much about, but could easily follow. I thoroughly enjoyed following all the characters on their adventure and the quest. The addition of humor in the story was also so great!

Basically, this book Percy Jackson but with Norse mythology instead of Greek. Boden's writing style is very fluent and his main character Cinder is so funny! This first book introduced a lot but much still has to be resolved. And I want to see more of Tristan too!

I didn’t know what to expect going into this one, but I certainly didn’t expect to be blown away…and that’s exactly what happened. Here’s what I loved about it:

⛈️ It’s YA fantasy, but there’s no juvenile romances getting in the way of a perfectly good plot. This is rarer than you might think.
⛈️ The humour is top quality. The characters are actually funny! Especially Cinder, the MC.
⛈️ It’s not too complex. You don’t need to spend any time trying to keep characters straight or figure out what’s going on. There are still some weird character names, but there’s a certain flow to the writing that keeps everything clear and concise for the reader.
⛈️ There are some pretty decent plot twists that I definitely didn’t see coming. That always keeps things interesting.
⛈️ It’s a genuinely fun and addicting fantasy read with no dull or monotonous sections. I flew through this one.

I have nothing bad to say about this book. I loved it and highly recommend if you’re a fan of the genre.

Thank you to Book Influencers and the author for my gifted copy!

⚫️This is a wild, high-octane ride, blending elements of mythology and action with intricate characters in an unforgettable story. Starting with the very first page, Boden sets the reader inside a world in which gods, Valkyries, and dark elves collide with a modern-day, rebellious teenager in such an exciting yet fresh way that readers will never be able to get enough of this book.

⚫️Cinder is the fierce and flawed protagonist of the story. Abandoned at birth and bouncing from one foster home to another, she has developed a tough exterior, a sharp wit, and a knack for getting herself into trouble. What makes Cinder different from any other hero, however, is her ability to face her new world of gods and mythical creatures with the same defiance and grit she uses to fight her way through her troubled life. When she is thrust into a realm full of danger and destiny, she is faced with the daunting task of navigating her role in an ancient prophecy a prophecy that’s determined to break her in every possible way.

⚫️Boden does a masterful job of creating a world that’s rich in Norse mythology while keeping the tone modern and relatable. The blending of the mythical and the mundane, particularly through Cinder's perspective, is quite delightful. One moment, Cinder is dealing with high school brawls and cafeteria drama, and the next, she's thrust into the Proving Grounds, facing Valkyries, dark elves, and the looming threat of Ragnarök. It is not that Cinder fights for her place in this new reality of high stakes, but fighting mythical creatures represents a fight in her own self, her past, and reluctant role in making the future.

⚫️Tristan, the galaxy's "most eligible boyfriend," adds a touch of humor, charm, and emotional depth to the story. He is the perfect counterbalance to Cinder's tough exterior supportive yet complex, and always ready with a witty remark or a moment of genuine connection. Their dynamic provides a nice touch of romance amidst the action, grounding the story with relatable emotions and stakes.

⚫️I really liked the way the pacing in Stormbringer is paced. Boden keeps it suspenseful with fighting scenes, twisty plot moments, and an atmosphere of a world as unsafe as it's interesting. And it's not all just fighty and adventureish—Cinder's development of character really is what makes this book. The way she battles herself over questions of authority, trust, and fate are intertwined throughout the book to make her story not only a matter of saving the world, but of saving herself as well.

⚫️The book also does a great job of world-building, blending seamlessly modern-day California with the mythological realm where Cinder's destiny unfolds. Each new location and character adds depth to the story's already intricate world.

⚫️In a nutshell, Stormbringer: The Predator's Stone is an exhilarating, fast-paced adventure that will keep readers hooked from start to finish. Cinder is a great protagonist, and her journey of self-discovery and survival in a world of gods, monsters, and prophecies is nothing short of thrilling. G. R. Boden has created a rich and exciting world that blends mythology with modern-day angst, creating a story that is equal parts action, heart, and humor. If you're a fan of strong female leads, Norse mythology, and epic adventure, Stormbringer is a must-read.

Happy reading ❤️✨

If there’s a quest involved, AND a ”chosen one”? Count me in. I ADORE quests in fantasy books, a group of friends heading out on an epic adventure to usually stop the end of the world, and there’s that one special girl or boy in the group that’s gonna stop it all (with a lot of help from their friends of course) Lord of the rings and Percy Jackson are favourites in this genre, and this book is definitely inspired by Percy! But instead of greek mythology, we get nordic history and myth! Think camp halfblood but instead it’s on Iceland filled with Valkyries, Vikings, demi gods, and the OG gods. Odin is frequently part of the story, either dressed in his viking attire or like a 00’s douche 😅 Incredible world building, and set up for how this world works with magic and the differences between the characters. The dialogues are amazing, I’ve laughed so many times I lost count. Very similar to the funny banter of Percy Jackson. All of these ancient legends put into the modern world, makes for a lot of good gags. Also lots of interesting and fun facts to learn about this mythology, so you kill to birds with one stone! So happy I got to read this book and I absolutely want to read the next one, especially after that ending…👀

Stormbringer is book 1 in The Predators Stone series by G R Boden. This book is a Norse mythology fantasy adventure centered around a foster girl and is a blend of so many of my favorite elements and tropes. It is focused/based on Norse mythology but even if you don't know much or anything about it, the author explains everything you need to know in the plot really well, and it's very easy to follow along.

The best way to describe this book is that it's like Percy Jackson but with Norse mythology instead of Greek mythology or similar to the Magnus Chase series. I absolutely love both of those series so I was really excited to see if Stormbringer gave off the same vibe and it did not disappoint! The writing is brilliant and the plot has everything from funny dialogues to interesting mythology facts to a new magical and interesting world to an entertaining quest paired with the most likable characters. Overall this book was delightful and chaotic and extremely fun to read.

Imagine a teenage rebel named Cinder who's basically been tossed around the system her whole life, and suddenly she gets yanked into this CRAZY mythological adventure. We're talking Valkyries, dark elves, and world-ending serpents - just another day, right? 😂

What makes this book SO GOOD:
• It's got crazy Percy Jackson vibes
• Characters that feel totally real
• Dialogue that will have you laughing
• Mythology that's actually FUN to read

Here's the deal: Cinder's got an attitude bigger than Thor's hammer, and she's NOT letting any gods push her around. When some elite bodyguard squad shows up to drag her to something called the "Proving Grounds", you just KNOW things are about to get wild.

The best part? This whole potential BAD THINGS might go down in a strip mall in PISMO, CALIFORNIA. How random and awesome is that? 🤯

Who should read this?
- Fantasy lovers
- Mythology fans
- Anyone who loves a FMC with serious attitude
- People who like their stories with a side of chaos

Seriously, I'm counting down the days until the next book drops. HELP! 🙌

Stormbringer is a thrilling middle-grade fantasy adventure that blends Norse mythology with modern-day humour. Cinder, a rebellious and witty protagonist, is thrust into a world of gods, monsters, and magic. With her quick wit and sharp tongue, she navigates the challenges of her newfound destiny, all while dealing with the typical teenage struggles of friendship, family, and self-discovery.

The author’s skilful storytelling and engaging characters make this book a delightful read. The world-building is imaginative, and the Norse mythology elements are seamlessly woven into the narrative. The humour is witty and refreshing, making the story even more enjoyable.

If you’re a fan of Percy Jackson or Magnus Chase, you’ll appreciate Stormbringer. It’s a perfect blend of action, adventure, and humour, making it a must-read for young readers.

First, I LOVE the cover. It’s so much more vivid in person. And as for the story? An absolutely addictive and fun ride from start to finish! I saw where others mentioned Percy Jackson and that’s a great comparison…but add in a little His Dark Materials as well.

We have quests and action and a found family group of friends that left my eyes glued to the pages! Thanks SO MUCH to G.R. Boden for my copy of this wonderful book! I’m so excited for more!

Stormbringer is an engaging blend of Norse mythology, adventure, and coming-of-age storytelling. The novel follows Cindrheim "Cinder" Moss, a sharp-witted yet vulnerable 12-year-old thrust into a world of gods, Predators, and mythical creatures. As she confronts dangerous foes and discovers her connection to ancient Nordic legends, Cinder's journey explores themes of identity, courage, and destiny.

Boden excels at weaving humor and suspense into a richly imagined world, with relatable characters and sharp dialogue. While some mythological exposition slows the pacing, the story’s creativity and heartfelt moments shine. Fans of Percy Jackson will enjoy this thrilling and heartfelt adventure.

An intriguing fantasy based on Norse Mythology that fans of Percy Jackson would love. The story is told from the perspective of Cinder, a foster child who struggles to stay out of trouble but is brave and loyal to her friends. A prophecy about her makes her a target as she's destined to be a hero. A group of predators rescue her from a Grint and take her to Proving Grounds where she'll be protected while she trains in preparation to fulfill a quest laid out by Odin. The plot is entertaining and easy to follow, and the characters are well-developed and mostly likeable despite their flaws. Readers aged 10 and up will definitely enjoy this book. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

This middle grade fantasy combines Norse mythology with the humor and bravery shown by the main character, Cinder. She's a twelve year girl attending school when her life takes a dramatic turn and she is thrown into a an alternate realm filled with intriguing characters, lots of adventure, and secrets to learn.

I enjoyed the author's writing style and the story flowed nicely. I was caught up in the challenges Cinder and her friends faced as they overcame obstacles to defeat the enemy. The ending was perfect for this novel, but leaves the door open for future books and I can't wait to get lost in them too!

Superb. Gotta see what else this guy can do. So I looked it up on Kirkus, since that's the standard, and I like to see how 'in tune' I am with my critiques. Check out the review, and I have to agree wholly with it. Who'da thought a grown man would love reading something like this?
https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...
and it's a series--even better. can't wait.
