A bodybuilding landmark now in its eleventh printing, The Sensible Way To Achieve Ultimate Muscularity is Clarence Bass' first book. Ripped describes, step by step, Clarence's road to achieving a championship physique; the rights and wrongs of diet and training, and how he achieved the astounding body fat level of 2.4%. We believe Ripped is the most scientifically documented and detailed account of bodybuilding success ever written. Backed by 15 body composition tests performed by the world famous Lovelace Medical Center, Clarence explains how he won his height class in the Past-40 Mr. America and Past-40 Mr. U.S.A. contests, and the overall Most Muscular Man award in the U.S.A. contest.
A brief history of Bass's (successful) efforts to get down to 2.4% body fat for bodybuilding competitions between 1977 and 1979. I was amused at how much his diet followed the spirit of the times and amazed by how little he was eating day after day (breakfast: 2 poached eggs, 1 slice dry toast, wheat germ, bran, and one cup milk; lunch: peanut butter sandwich, one cup yogurt, one apple; dinner: 2 poached eggs, 1 slice dry toast, big vegetable salad without oil). The (apparently legal at the time) steroid use is interesting, too.
As is often the case with accounts like this one, I found it difficult to tell how much of the advice is relevant to people who are not Clarence Bass, and how much of a role genetics played -- the book opens with a photo of Bass at age 15, already looking muscular and lean.
