Finding This Place: One Woman's Journey Beyond Restriction

Rate this book
At a very young age, Marcia Breece came face to face with a disconcerting truth that would haunt her for decades. Because she was a girl, she would be molded to fulfill a role that had long been defined for to be obedient, coy, and self-effacing—and forever secondary to men. The free-spirited, independent nature Marcia demonstrated as a young child slowly eroded, unable to withstand the powerful influence of societal expectations and the autocratic rule of the men in her life. Like most women of the time, Marcia dutifully succumbed to what she came to think of as Training to be just a girl. She married, had two children, and became the typical helpmate to a patriarchal husband. And yet...she could never quite silence a nagging inner voice that said life could offer her so much more than a supporting role. Finding This Place beautifully recounts Marcia's remarkable journey as she breaks the chains of Training and struggles to find the person within. It is a story that will inspire both women and men to follow their own path—no matter how bumpy—and inevitably arrive at a place that is uniquely their own.

Marcia Breece is an American author, memoirist, and self-publishing consultant who lives near Port Townsend, Washington. Her diverse life experiences, from corporate executive to innkeeper/llama farmer have deeply impacted her writing.
Breece began her professional life as a stay-at-home mother before transitioning into a high-powered corporate career in the telecommunications industry. In the 1990s, she worked internationally in India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, helping to establish wireless networks for AT&T Wireless and GTE. Despite the excitement of global travel, she eventually felt unfulfilled, prompting a significant lifestyle change.
In 2005, she left her corporate career to purchase a hobby farm on Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula, where she opened a bed and breakfast. In addition to her guests, Breece cared for llamas, ducks, geese, rabbits, sheep, and chickens. While the experience was enriching, it left little time for writing. She later sold the farm and settled into a quieter life on the Olympic Peninsula.
In addition to her writing, Breece runs Publishing Partners, a consulting service that assists authors with self-publishing, including editing, design, and distribution.
Breece currently resides in a rural cottage overlooking Discovery Bay, accompanied by her two Havanese dogs, Dora and Ellie. She finds inspiration in the tranquility of her surroundings, which supports both her writing and her work with fellow authors.
