DEMON LOVER - Book Two in Fairytale Fantasies

Rumplestiltskin is not his name and this hunk’s no gnarled old goblin.

In his quest to land her a rich husband, Gwyneth’s father has gone one step too far and bragged to the king’s steward. Now she faces an impossible task: spin a room full of straw into gold by morning, or their lives are forfeit. She despairs, until a black-garbed figure offers to solve her problem for a price. One kiss.

He returns the second night, and the third. With each sensual encounter, the stakes escalate along with her attraction to her mysterious visitor. Then he claims the ultimate price—her child—and she realizes too late she’s made a deal with the king of the Underworld.

From the moment he kisses her, Ragnorak knows Gwyneth’s child will be a worthy heir for his kingdom. But with each touch, he wants more. He wants her to be queen of his strangely beautiful world—and for her to want to stay. But that will mean giving her the ultimate weapon—the power of his name.

Gwyneth has only three chances to drive her demon lover over the edge of bliss. But when the stakes suddenly shift, it’s Ragnorak who stands to lose everything…

Warning: This book turns a well-known fairytale upside down, and involves hot sex with a villainous demon—or is he…?

I began telling stories as a child. Whenever there was a sleepover, I was the designated ghost tale teller. I still have a story printed on yellow legal paper in second grade about a ghost, a witch and a talking cat.

I enjoy dabbling in many genres. Whether you're a fan of contemporary historical or fantasy romance, you'll find something to enjoy among my books. This is a tough one because it is well written and the sex is hot but... I loved the beginning of the book so much I was ready to give it five stars and wake up all my friends, demanding that they read it. It totally worked as an adult fairy tale. Then it all went to hell on a hand basket. Really, the minute Gwyneth (heroine) goes to the Underworld, this story fell apart for me because she started to annoy me. The more I read and got to 'know' her, the more I disliked her.

It's really my fault because I'm really a snob when it comes to heroines. I need to like them, respect them, think that they are worthy of the time I'm spending reading about them. My heroines don't need to be perfect (I really prefer they aren't) but they better be more than spineless twits who can't make up their minds. No amount of well written sex can overcome an immature mary sue who is shallow and vapid. Oh and don't mind her incredible beauty because we are 'told' how she really cares for the less fortunate (pardon while I vomit).I think the beginning worked so well because her life was at stake and we didn't get to 'know' her.

Don't get me started on the hero who is so deliciously dark and rakish in the beginning turning into a besotted schoolboy showing off his toys in order to impress the 'pretty girl'. He became so boringly PC with his modern sensibilities of equality for all that when the snippets of rake tried to come out during the sex scenes it was too little, too late.

I can't believe how the second half ruined a deliciously smutty fairy tale. Should you read it? Sure, if you don't mind skimming all of the second half 'plot' and 'characterization' and just zeroing in on the sex scenes (which were really good and almost deserving an extra star, but I simply couldn't bring myself to give this story 2 stars).

Gwyneth is left in a room with a pile of hay, expected by King Midas to spin it into gold. Short of a miracle, Gwyneth knows her father has possibly sentenced her to death with his outlandish claims. Sitting in the room by herself she is stunned to find a mysterious man in a black cloak standing there and offering a deal, a simple kiss for the ability to spin gold.

Three more deals are struck with each opening Gwyneth's heart to the man who has yet to show his face or tell his name. When he leaves her abruptly to accept her fate to wed King Midas she goes about her life, expecting to see him again only when she has a her first born when he comes to claim the child.

A beautiful twist to the classic tale of Rumpelstiltskin. Gwyneth and the Demon who helps her is written with such intensity it pulls at your heart strings. Brilliant, I was unable to put the book down and was unsure where the story was going which was an unexpected surprise.

Retelling of the Rumpelstiltskin story with him being a king from the underworld attracted and somehow summoned by Gwyneth when her father makes false boasts. There's really no explanation of how he heard Gwyneth, but I'm getting too technical I guess. They meet 3 times and it seems he's falling in love and she's falling in lust. The king wants to marry her for her gold spinning ability and Ragnorak wants her and her first child because he can't live without her and is unable to produce an heir. I felt Gwyneth at times was too cruel. But then Ragnorak kept sabotaging himself. Okay story. I did not read the other story in this book as the e-book I obtained only had Bonnie Dee's story.

A twisted up version of Rumpelstiltskin, where the queen isn't in love with her king, she doesn't guess the demon's name and she has to surrender her firstborn child...but not without a lot of sex. This story started out with a lot of promise and a surprising amount of angst. Svartan/Ragnarok, the demon, comes to help Gwyneth when the king imprisons her and forces her to spin straw into gold. The first time, his payment is a kiss, the second touching and the third... by this point, she and Svartan know the king is going to marry her, so he asks for her firstborn. And this is the angst because she'd been expecting him to ask for sex and this was sort of a betrayal. But her going onto marry the king was a betrayal for him because he'd started falling in love with her. But he needed an heir, so to get one he had to let her go, let her marry the asshole king and leave her and come back for the child (and her) a year later. Whew.

So he does, and he takes her down to the underground. Now, I've read enough Labyrinth fanfiction that this felt really familiar and perhaps that's why it didn't hold my interest. Svartan also seemed to lose quite a bit of his edge...and I couldn't figure out why he would agree to such a bargain where he would lose no matter what the outcome. In fact, there were a few little things that had me scratching my head in this story...like why Svartan was able to heal Gwyneth's fingers in the beginning but then he doesn't think he can heal Brea's illness later on... Gwyneth also got irritating with her constant hot and cold regarding Svartan. Gotta admit though, the sex was pretty hot. And even though Svartan lost his edge, I still liked him quite a lot.

king Midas-king,rich,use to be Gwyneth's husband until she left with baby and demon
queen Gwyneth and Brea-queen and baby, rich, made a deal with a demon( to give up her baby so that she can be rich and have the talent of threading straw to gold)-later on the demon comes and tells her that he's there to collect the baby.but gwyneth changed her mind and didnt want her baby taken and raised by a demon, but the demon said that he never breaks a bargain, so gwyneth says that she will go with the demon and baby and leave her title on earth as queen.
Gwyneth-main character
richard miller-gwyneth's dad, wants to use gwyneth to become wealthy, likes to brag to people about gwyneth's beauty
Ragnorak(nick:svartan)-king of the underworld, demon,is not officially the father of gwyneth's child
Agnet-ragnorak's housekeeper
Karnak-friend of svartans,sucessful businessman,etc.
Guzel-karnak's wife

gwyneth's life was alright, until her dad bragged about her to the kings stewward that she can thread gold-which she cant.and the king then wants to test her to see if she can thread straw to gold, and if she can't, she will die.
gwyneth says that she will do anything to live, and so then after that a guy in a hood pops out of nowhere and tells her that he can help her, but with a price.a kiss.on the lips.
so the king and his steward were surprised when they found the room full of gold.
the king the next day says that he will marry her, but first she must prove again to him that she can really make straws to gold.so gwyneth goes yet again into a room full of alot more straws than last time, and the guy shows up again when she said that she needed him.he told her that this time the price will be kissing, and she has to touch him as he does the same to her.
then the king askes again one more time for her to make straws to gold.and the guy comes and tells her that the price would be that he can have her firstborn child.and if she doesnt want him to take the baby, then she will have to guest his name by 10 months.
so on after that the king married her and had a baby with her, but he stopped going to gwyneth much after the baby was born and it was a girl, not a boy.

gwyneth finds out that the guy is a demon and that he's taken her to hell-his home.
gwyneth got to see what svartan looks like for the first time without his hood and cloak that covers his face.gwyneth finds out that svartan wanted gwyneth's baby because he wanted her to be his heir.
gwyneth makes a deal with svartan.he gets to have three nights with her where gwyneth will do her worse.and if he even oragnism once during the three times, then gwyneth and brea has to be set free.and if svartan can resist her charms and not organism, that means tht gwyneth has to stay at svartan's home with brea forever and svartan will never be able to touch her again...
svartan has a half-brother that he never talks to, and a few cousins whom he are friends with as you should call it.
midas was furious after he saw his gold-threading wife vanished with the child and that black-hooded guy.midas heard rumors of a magical relm below them, of demons and all.and he remembered the time where his father was in his death bed, talking crazy about a demon princess that he had a child with and the lady disappeared with the child after birth.his half-brother.
he also remember his father saying that midas's own half-brother, going to be king of the underworld someday.
midas doesnt care about brea, he just wants his gold-spinning wife back.midas also remembers his father saying that one day midas will need his half brother's help, and his dad told him that if he ever needs him just say his name.midad just doesnt remember the name because at that moment he thought his dad was crazy and didnt listen to the name that his dad told him b4 he died...
the first night that gwyneth spent with svartan didnt work well, because svartan holded it all together during the 2 hours.

svartan tells Karnak that king midas is his half-brother.
midas is sending out everyone to look for someone that seems to act like their not human and send them to him so that midas can find a way into the demon rlm to get his wife and child back.
karnak finds out his half brother's real name and summons him.svartan makes a deal with madias that if gwyneth and brea return safely to earth, and they are unharmed and safe, then svartan is to give him lots of gold and precious dimonds each month.
gwyneth hears from karnak that svartan is not happy since brea and her were set free to live up her, and he is starting to become as cold as he had been b4 he meant gwyneth, so sh makes a deal with madias.svartan has to answer 3 questions that are usually imossible to anwer, and if he can't answer one right, then madias gets to have gwyneth and torture her for a month.and if svartan does get it right, then madias cant get more gold, has to free starvan of his debt and sign a treaty that is a permanent peace treaty for both worlds, and brea and gwyneth are free.
so gwyneth then calls starvan by his real name and askes him three queations only a man that loves her would know, and he answers all correctly and wins the bet. madias is crazy furios after that and he stomps around his throne mad like a monkey, and then the surface cracks and he says the word "demon!!!!!!!!" as he falls into the earth's core.
now everything on earth is great, people didnt starve anymore, and everyone was happy that midias was dead, the people even offered the crown to brea and gwyneth, which now makes mostly the place brea's kingdom.and part-ly gwyneth also.
and so brea and gwyneth and ragnorak live happily ever after.oh, and brea took her first steps when ragnorak wasnt there cause he had to go on business, and so gwyneth surprises him later on by letting only him know that brea can now walk and only gwyneth and him get to witness it.

I'm actually rounding this review up from 2.5 stars. It blended not one but two fairy tales AND a Greek myth together to form the story, and to my way of thinking, that was a bit too much blending. It is short, and erotic, yet the plot itself dragged too much to be really enjoyable. I had a similar lukewarm reaction to the first book, and having already reviewed the third book, I think it might be the problem of not liking the author's collaborative writing style. I've purchased the fourth book in the series, though I do not hold out much hope for it, and likely will abandon the series after that book.

Warning: This book turns a well-known fairytale upside down, and involves hot sex with a villainous demon...

WOW, and the book is just simply that. A twisted tale of Rumplestiltskin, but in a very adult form. Loved this steamy hot read. Not a minute went by that I wasn't entertained or trilled. The book just blew me away.

Very free, original and hot version of Rumpelstilskin. Loved the demon character so strong and nevertheless unsure.
Will read another of these fairy tales!
