CITY ON FIRE
It's into the inferno as Shinra goes toe-to-toe with the formidable White-Clad, Charon! Meanwhile, the rest of Company 8 and their comrades race to protect the city from a massive Infernal outbreak. Even if Shinra is able to save the Fifth Pillar Inca from the Evangelist’s goons, will they all survive the scorching blaze?
Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Volume 13: This concludes the big fight against all the infernals. It is almost anti-climatic after all the work in the previous volume. Shinra fails to save the girl and frankly I don't like nor understand Inca's motivation frankly it feels forced and awkward for such an otherwise strong character.. Author fails to capture the energy manipulator. But giant ice pillar is cool. The there is a bit of recap and regret that the other companies did not send more help.
Then the expedition to China begins. It is interesting just having them head outside the empire just like that. The encounter with the gas makes no sense and is kind of dumb. They could have just driven off a cliff or right into an encounter with a giant monster (which does happen). As professionals they should have been wearing their breathing gear. The talking animals are weird.
Good stuff, almost 5 stars.
Volume 14 is a fairly solid collection and the story just flows along nicely. The expedition finds a bunch of hopefully useful information including an abandoned copy of Amaterasu the power sources of the Japanese Empire. The group encounters thinking infernals and there is a long fight. In the end Shinra defeats the Demon Infernal with the help of an adola link to the women inside the power plant. The lady seems to be the opposite of the Evangelist. The journey back to Japan happens in less than a page. There are reaction scenes and a bit of outrage and then end.
Volume 15 is almost one long “investigation” and or fight of a branch of the Temple of the Holly Sol Church by the Joker and the Captain of Company 7 Benimaru Shinmon. They go looking for trouble and or information about the history of the church and several fights happen. The fights are actually interesting and well done. After a lot of fighting they encounter the Captain of Company 1 who gives them information. The information might not be what they wanted but seems to point at other places to investigate. The other thing we learn is the Joker used to be a member of a special assassins dirty wet works group for the church. Not only does this group do horrible things in the name of god the leader we meat likes to abuse and molest the children he is training. Ick. Anyway, another solid story. Not only that but the plot really advances.
These volumes were great! A fun trip to China, lots of crazy shit happening over there. And now we storming Hajima Industries. Also this had the most intense lore reveals so far, and possible Soul Eater connections?! Wild stuff!
Fav side character- Don't have one Fav use of power- Joker Least fav character- Inca Fav character- Don't have one Fav relationship- Don't have one Fav volume- 13
Volume 13 (3 stars) The dude with the whistle annoys me. The fight at the start that finishes the fight started in the previous volume was good. But also when that ended I had very little motivation to continue reading. Didn't expect them to leave the place they were and go somewhere else. I'll either like the change or hate it, we shall see.
Volume 14 (3 stars) Are u telling me that some idiot kid can recognize the numbers of Pi, but the literal scientist couldn't!?!??
Volume 15 (2 stars) Most boring volume of the series so far. Dunno if I'll continue the series, looks like my library has stopped stocking them.
I feel like this Omnibus (like the previous one) had a lot of new information dropped on us-- which is helping the storyline progress. But because of that there wasnt a while bunch of action going on which made it drag a wee bit. Though even with that said ive been enjoying what's been going on. The little talking Mole was so cute-- I hope we see him again later in the series.
Took a fairly long gap between the last omnibus and this one and I was still able to dive right in and get hooked all over. The writing is really well done.
