Meet Lucy Gordon, the sweet, scatty, irresistible heroine of Fiona Walker's delicious novel. Lucy lives in a Berkshire village with her two friends, Jane and Bella, and works in the marketing department of Widgetex Computers. Her boss - Slave Driver - is a constant bane; her family are lovable eccentrics; her boyfriend, the dishy but fickle Greg, takes shameless advantage of her (Lucy is too good hearted to notice). Throughout two action-packed, fun-filled, disaster-strewn years, Lucy charts an erratic course among this motley crew to her very own happy ending.
I first read Lucy talk when I was about 15, it was one of my favourite books in my teens but I hadn't re-read it in years. Reading it again I got that same feeling of happiness and fun that I had all those years ago. It's a lovely story written through letters, diary entries, emails, notes that chronicles the life of Lucy Gordon. It's a lighthearted, funny, magic book that I've always had a soft spot for.
I don't think my dislike of this book is really the author's fault, just that I am too late to the party - a 400+ page epistolary novel written in emails adapted from a late '90s newspaper column just doesn't have the power to fascinate in 2015.

I loved this book. I would love to be best friends with Lucy. What a lovable character. I was sad when I finished the book. This is a book that could go on forever and never be dull. I highly recommend this book.
Was hard to read in the beginning. it took me a while to understand the characters and the connections because of the letter format. Also, Lucy's naivety is very unrealistic. However, it developed to kind of a comfort book, I became curious what will happen next and my affection and sympathy to Lucy increased with every page. Moreover, the amount of details described in this book is impressive!
This book was given to me for Christmas 2022 by my 5 year - because it was blue.
Lucy Talks is an epistolary novel which started life as a newspaper column. I feel this may have meant there were a few more pieces of correspondence included than if it had always been a book. Still, despite the 400+ pages of teeny, tiny font (I assume I had the mass paperback version,) I was entertained well enough to keep reading until the end - which was predictable, but not in a bad way. The writing was at times relatable and humorous. Just some good "chick lit" about being young and having to deal with all the weirdos who make up your family, work colleagues and friends. Some of the interactions, especially in the workplace, aren't all that PC - I've been a stay-at-home-mum for 13 years, so I don't know if this has aged since the book was published in 2001, or is still reminiscent of office banter these days?
I took the book camping and I think that was the perfect setting for it... relaxing in the sun at camp or on the beach. Nothing too heavy, so you can still keep track of your children, but a story you are happy to follow along with. I left it in the camp's little library.
Used for: TBR Books Chosen by Others for January. Picked off my shelves by my 13 year old with little effort or enthusiasm!
Leuk boek, zeker.
Lucy is a young woman, working for a marketing company and house sharing with her two best friends, Bella and Jane.
The internet and use of emails has just become the norm and Lucy documents her life through a series of emails to her friends and diary/self help notes
Lucy is a very sweet charming character, she is completely disastrous in love and cannot see that the perfect man for her is right in front of her eyes.
This was my first read by Fiona Walker. This book was published in 2001 and there was a nostalgic element reading back to how life was before emails, social media, satnavs etc.
Whilst I found this book to be a light read, at times I was willing there to be more to the story and was getting a bit bored with the predictable storyline.

Really enjoyed this rom com epistolary! It took a while to get going and the obvious romance was frustrating. I did enjoy finding out different aspects about the character and the email reveal was funny, however, it would have been good to get a detailed view from another characters POV to highlight aspects of Lucy's character that she didn't highlight herself

Empat, seisi rumah Roundhead Avenue tiba-tiba cekcok.
Enam, kuda barunya ternyata nggak menyukai Lucy.
I read this book every now and then when I need a good pick-me-up. This is my recipe: 1. This book 2. Bubble bath 3. Chocolate (lots of it) 4. Cup of tea 5. Candles
In the form of emails, notes, letters, diary etc Lucy talk is a comical account of the life of Lucy Gordon. There are some real laugh out loud moments but overshadowing this are the times when you just want to shake Lucy and say "get real". She is just a but too naive and nice to really believe. I know a lot of her naivety and the non-communication between characters make up some of the comical occurrences but some of it is just a bit to far-fetched. The fact that Lucy continues to email her travelling friend despite never getting an email reply and yet getting the odd postcard that clearly states that she is not receiving them is stupid. The fact that she is so dozy about vet Mike's affections or the way she is treated by her boyfriends - it just doesn't ring true. It might work as a crazy sitcom character but not in this style. A fun quick read but certainly not one of Fiona Walker's best.
This is the first Fiona Walker book I've read, and I really liked it. Written in the form of emails, electronic journal entries, notes on the fridge, and menus, it's very reminiscent of Bridget Jones.[return[returnThe main character, Lucy, is sweet and funny, if a bit blind about what's going on around her. The story revolves around her love life, her mates, her relationship with her naff family, and her work life as a marketing exec for a gadget company. Very funny, and I actually laughed out loud at the end. :)[return[returnIf you're a fan of British chick lit, I recommend giving this one a try.
I bought it at a book sale. It only costs me Rp 15.000. The book is thick and I love the story. The story is about Lucy, she writes her feelings everywhere. Word document, letters, in the back of a brochure, everywhere. But what I love the most is the characters. They are so funny and real. I like Big Mike and I'm glad that finally Lucy realizes everything. That she loves Big Mike and Big Mike likes her too. Greg is a total jerk. I knew it from the very start. OK looks but blah personality. And I love Lucy's crazy family. They are so funny and lively. Over all, it's an un-putdown-able book.
I was really looking forward to reading this book becuase it's written in the form of e-mails, letters etc but when I started to read it, I became 98% sure that I've read this before. It all seemed very familiar. So I was a bit bored at the start of the book, but it picked up half way and was quiet a good read. Lucy was a total dimwit. And I figured out her love life before she did.
It reminded me a bit of Briget Jones but instead of diary format this is put together in the form of emails, phone messages, memos, letters and notes left on fridge. I felt this format should not work but it does, the story is quite easy to follow. Lucy is pretty scatty and naive and the story is predictable but is a fun read.
I love Fiona Walker as an author, but I personally didn't get into this book like I should have. I just thought that the style was just a little to odd for my liking. I like to feel the surroundings, practically see the characters, but this book didn't do that because of the way it is written with emails, blogs, notes etc.
I'm not quite sure about this book. I enjoyed to read the story with only the letters and notes, the writing is nice and funny, the characters as well. My problem is that in the all book, I wanted the main character, Lucy, to learn about what happened to her, to improve, to assert herself... and... it's not happening (even if there is, of course, changes in her life)
My least favourite Fiona Walker book by far. Too bitty, the girl in it you want to throttle as the 'will they - won't they' is so obvious and long winded I almost gave up. Almost a parody of Walker's other books. Ok. Just.
