About the author

Rosemary Ellen Guiley is a leading expert on the paranormal, and is the author of 45+ books, including ten single-volume encyclopedias. Since 1983, she has worked full-time in the paranormal, researching, investigating and writing. She has done extensive field work investigating haunted, mysterious and sacred places, and has had numerous strange and unexplained experiences. When she is not on the paranormal road, she is working on new books and writing for TAPS Paramagazine, FATE magazine, and the Journal of Abduction-Encounter Research. Rosemary lives in New Jersey, and spends much of her time traveling the spooky byways of one of the most haunted states in America, Pennsylvania.

This is a thoroughly engaging volume on the subject of paranormal phenomena. Some entries are quite exhaustive, while I feel that others could have been more so.
It really wins out by including figures and subjects that others might relegate to more mundane categories like Freud and masks.
It's a handy informative reference for any occultist.

Probably as intended but it offers a brief taste for many very rich topics. For breadth it scored five stars, but for depth it scored three. In the end I arrived at three stars as when one considers the breadth, there's a lot that failed to maintain my interest. Having said this, I can see why it's a textbook that is required for introductory classes.

Not an easy read, but a very educational one. Lots of information. It covered everything from religion to ESP to the people involved. Very comprensive. A very good reference. Good to read a bit at a time.
