One of the most beautiful and unspoilty areas in the world, this Cicerone guidebook covering Everest and the Khumbu region of Nepal, one of the great trekking regions. The guidebook includes all the main trekking routes, including from Lukla (and Jiri) to Namche, and routes to Thame, Gokyo, Thangboche, Lobuche, Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp. Includes the route in Tibet from Tingri to the North side and Rongbuk monastery/glacier. Great for the following Pre-monsoon (March-May) and post-monsoon (October to late November) are ideal. Monsoon and winter treks are possible, but much more difficult.
Despite this Cicerone collection is interesting this particular guide got certain problems. You got routes, and you got details but not what is essential: Enthusiasm and love from the author. I bought this guide with the maximum affection (smelling its pages, etc...) in order to find what you need to make a meaningful lifetime adventure.
I do not like these personal opinions which are written as mandatory requirements that really discourage readers to go to those Everest trekkings. I give you some literal quotes examples:
"Affection: Avoid public displays of affection, for these can use embarrsment and are frowned upon." "Begging: Discourage children who ask for school pens, balloons, money or candy, for responding to children will erode their self-respect (...)" "Dress: Be modestly clad, for a state of undress is unacceptable.Women should not wear revealing blouses or shorts (...) men long trousers" "Food: Avoid touching food or utensils that Nepalis use (...)"
Those key words are written with capitals as they were key elements to follow ... are they fair? So you can judge by yourself. This author is plenty of prejudices against love, freedom joy. If you write a guide you must encourage positive staments, not this. Probably If I won´t go to Everest is because this guide , partially.
An excellent travel guide to palm trekking expeditions in the Sagarmatha National Park area of Nepal and Chomolungma National Park area of Tibet. Helped a lot in planning for the Jun’23 EBC trek with the family.
I bought two trekking books and this one is by far superior. Used it for following along and learning about the area on my virtual hike. Seems very thorough for a real hike too.
