Christa Joy Spaeth is the founder of Christa Joy Ministries. It was in 2022 when Minnesota-based author Christa received a compelling message from God. In a prayer cabin called “Whisper,” He prompted her to write a seven-week devotional.
Since then, Christa’s eyes, heart, and ears were opened to more whispers, so that she may start fulfilling her new purpose of helping the hurting and share the love of Christ.
Today, Christa owns and operates Christa Joy Ministries where she publishes her own books, writes daily encouragements and God whispers on her social media accounts. In addition, she does guest blog posts for various social media accounts.
Lovely book. Practical and meaningful. Has a how-to-guide at the beginning of the book to make the most of your devotional time. I have loved reading it thus far! Highly recommend.
This devotional book is not the typical daily Bible passage with a relatable personal anecdote or Scripture study, but rather a pertinent message from God, which the author calls “God’s Whisper.” She shares messages she and other contributors have received from the Lord to encourage and challenge others so they also experience His “wraparound presence” and get to know Him better. She instructs readers to worship God and says, “Your song reverberates through the heavens.” The weeks’ themes progress from God knowing us, loving us, and providing for us, through the seven weeks of immersive teaching and prayer. Each day also includes a suggested worship song to listen to and an action to take to solidify the day’s teaching. The book should bless any Christian and lead those who don’t know God personally into a relationship with Him. You can sense God’s love pouring from its pages. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Have you ever longed to hear the whispers of God speaking right to your heart? Do you ache to hear the words He has just for you and about you? Then, Powerful Whispers by Christa Joy Spaeth is the book for you! As you undertake this seven-week journey, you will grow closer to God and discover how known and loved you are. Scriptural truth and words from the heart will be food for your soul. Christa includes scripture, personal testimony, suggested worship songs, powerful activations, and prayer in each daily reading. All you will need is a pen because space for reflection is also provided. This is a devotional to return to again and again, as each new season in life brings opportunities for greater intimacy with the Saviour. Like sitting down and receiving encouragement from a dear friend, Powerful Whispers will leave you changed.
My Christian tradition wasn't one that spent a lot of time on the relationship aspect of our faith. It was largely focused on "right" theology." As my heart has changed over time, I want to hear personally from the Father through the Spirit. This is a good study for developing that heartset. (Vs a mindset!) Taking the time daily to pray, read, listen to the suggested music, is bringing a new freshness to my walk. I highly recommend this book!
I really like how Christa presents each whisper. She relates each to a scripture passage and gives us an active way to include the passage in our daily lives. The prayer she includes makes it easier for me to express myself to God. I don't always have the words.
Powerful Whispers is a devotional that bring you closer to God each day and helps you to really see that God is seeking a relationship with you. Loving this devotional!
Christa has done such a wonderful job of making God accessible in her devotional. Each day, she shares a short devotional from the heart and prayer as well as the perfect music pairing and great reflection questions to really get you to dig into who you are to God.
Whether you have been a Christian your whole life or are just starting out on this journey, Christa's book is a wonderful resource.
I'm sure your life will be changed after your 7-week journey with her and God.
I’ve never been an avid book reader, but this title piqued my interest. I just received my eBook on Amazon and I can tell you, I had a hard time putting it down! Each day there is a ~15 minute chapter to read, learn and do! It has revolutionized my morning devotions with the framework Christa Joy developed. I feel that I now have the tools to better know God on a personal level.
What a blessing to watch Christa follow the Lord, to release this POWERFUL book. His love, peace, and hope are so evident throughout the pages of the devotional. I especially LOVE the Worship music suggestions for each day - as one who loves reading and music, the combo is so WONDER-FULL. Cannot wait to see this book reach the Nations and touch many hearts!
A wonderful way to start (or end) your day. Each day is laid out in a way that really helps me dig in and apply it. The worship recommendation helps me remember what I've read throughout the day as I keep humming or singing the song.
This is a Spirit-filled devotional, focusing on actively living out the theoretical messages. The daily worship music suggestions add an additional layer of God's voice into your day. If you enjoy the Jesus Calling Books, you will love Powerful Whispers. It is a life-giving book you will pick up again and again.
This devotional book has 7 weeks of devotions, one for each day of the week. They start off with a Biblical scripture and then a special message from the heart of God titled God’s whisper. Then a personal note from or about the author’s life. Then the author suggests a worship song to listen to. I admit I haven’t listened to the songs because I was reading this book so I could write this review but I plan on rereading this book and listening to the songs and really use this book as it was intended, a devotional to really understand how much God loves me. After the worship song suggestion the author has an activity for the reader to do and then there is a prayer to pray, then there is a page to write your reflections.
The prayers are really written to help us reach out to God and grow in the knowledge of His love. I urge you not to just read these prayers but really mean them as you say them. I suggest you read them, then pray them and mean them.
I was given a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
Powerful Whispers is just as the name implies - powerful! If you're yearning for a deeper relationship with God then this book is for you. Each chapter is an easy read and invites you to spend intentional time with Him through deeper insights into the Holy Bible, relevant testimonies, suggested worship, and reflections. This book will not only encourage and strengthen your walk with God but remind you of His amazing love and desire to be with you.
My amazon review: :-) This is a beautiful, powerful book that you can read each day. It is filled with scripture, making it real to you in a personal way, and it also has a time of activation for you to apply it right away. Each reading comes with a worship song to listen to, as well as a place to journal. I know this is a book I will read multiple times.
I like how the author has set this study book up in a way that flows from page to page. She opens the study with the most important part that will impact many. It is a simple statement which asks, “Do you know Jesus ?” Before you begin the study the author wants readers to know where they would go if they died today. I loved that this was the first page that starts your journey with Jesus.
Each chapter has a section where you read scriptures and reflect on them. One thing I noticed about the study is how it is geared towards drawing you to open up the Bible and reading directly from it. Even though the scriptures are there in the workbook I like to look them up in the Bible. There are many versions out there to choose from and for me I like to read from different Bibles to see how they are written and interpreted.
The book provides personal accounts with a song that I stopped to look up. It also prompts you to take action and then pray over what you studied. I like that the author provided a prayer that goes with each section and points directly to what was just studied. The chapters are short but it does not take away from the message. It provides a good way to spend time with God while soaking up His word.
One chapter I really enjoyed was “ God Sees You,” found in chapter seven. It talks about feeling invisible. I have felt that way all my life. I often say,” If I walked into a room full of people, I would still feel alone.” This chapter reminds me that God sees me and He has never left me. I may feel alone but that is a lie from the enemy. This one chapter grabbed my attention and I probably spent days reading it, looking up verses, the song and saying the prayer over and over again. Yes I felt a release when I let go and let God. I have wanted to be free from all the lies the enemy has whispered to me since I was a child. I needed a breakthrough in my anxiety and depression. What I found was missing was I was not still. I kept running from Him and allowing others to make me feel unwanted and unloved. I now hold on to Jeremiah 31:3 “ The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with everlasting love ; I have drawn you with unfailing love.”
As you can tell this book has impacted me in a way that I have waited my whole life to feel. You never know when your breakthrough will come but get ready . God loves us and has a plan for us. We may get what we need from a study guide, a word from the pastor or just listening to a song. Be sure you grab this book and allow God to open your eyes and whisper truth and freedom to each of you.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
This is an uplifting multi-author, seven-week devotional book, of which I found several devotions very refreshing, and several showing me something in a way I could understand better. My favorite days were found mostly in weeks six and seven, in particular the one titled Your Resting Place.
Each day’s devotion begins with a verse or two from scripture, then a section called God’s Whisper, written as if the Lord is speaking directly to each reader, and of which author Christa Joy Spaeth wrote: “…He whispered these daily words to be written down, especially for you.” Other sections for each day include various subjects or experiences of the author that would exemplify the scripture verses. Suggested Worship lists a praise or worship song for each day, and for which an online link to hear it is at the end of the book. Activation includes an activity or idea that helps one grasp or put into action the concept of that day, then a closing prayer and a space to reflect what the reader heard God say to them that day’s devotion.
A few Bible translations are used throughout it. The translation I am most familiar with had minimal use in this devotional. If that is true for the reader, I might suggest having the one available that one is most familiar with during devotional time, as I find I often gain more from it. I personally was uncomfortable with one of the translations, which made it more challenging to focus on the rest of that day’s study unless I looked into my usual translation.
This style, including God’s Whisper for each day, is somewhat different than what I am familiar with, and it showed me a good order for personal devotions. It is perfect for anyone who appreciates the Lord’s whispers being first person, from Him to the reader, rather than only using scripture quotes. It may also be an open door to those who haven’t experienced it before.
Overall, this is a very good seven-week devotional book, and I recommend it for those who want to seek the Lord and grow closer to Him through scripture, praise and worship, and practical application.
From a thankful heart: I received an ARC of this book from the author, through Celebrate Lit, and this is my honest review.
FALSE TEACHING - New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is not Biblical Christianity.
This Bible Study primarilly uses The Passion Translation (TPT) "bible" which is a paraphrase written by Brian Simmons who claims to have received the translation as a direct revelation from an angel named Passion. This "version" of the Bible is considered to be heretical and false teaching. It does not follow the best practices of Biblical Translation. Nor does it represent Biblical Christianity. This version adds to the word of God, which the Bible warns us to steer clear of. (Example: John 15:15 TPT says we are "most initimate and cherished friends" where as the ESV says "I have called you friends". These mean very different things).
The Bible Study itself promotes gnostic and mystic views (common in New Apostolic Reformation / NAR). Gnostic views imply that individual people can have "special" knowlege of God. This is denounced in many scriptures.
Example from this study: "God's whipsers: ... I will work to unravel the secrets I have hidden just for you." This is gnosticism or "special knowledge" and is a heretical teaching.
This study also elevates us to the level of Christ. Example: "...we are being transfigured into Jesus's image." This is a gross misinterpretation of "becoming like Christ". Transfigured (look up the definition of the word) means an exalted transformation. When the Bible talks about us "becoming like Christ" it is referring to our attitude, actions, and heart responding to the world around us in a Christ-like humble manner. Very different from an exulted or transfigured position.
If you believe in Biblical Christianity, then do not be mislead by this false teaching.
I have been reading this devotional for over six weeks now, and have appreciated a lot of the thoughts offered here. At the same time, I have been a bit disappointed. The main focus seems to be on what God does/can do for me, rather than on Who He is. While there is a place for talking about what God does for us, that tends to lead to a self-centered religion, rather than a God-centered religion. I would have preferred a devotional that pointed me more towards God rather than toward myself and what God says/does to/for me. There are some real gems in these pages, though. I appreciated the suggestion to transfer water from one glass to another, drop by drop, thanking God for a blessing from Him with each drop. Another day, I appreciated this quote: “Abundant life doesn’t mean it is an especially long life. Abundant life isn’t an easy, comfortable life. Abundant life is a life of satisfaction and contentment in Jesus.” I also liked the one about the glory of God, and one that talked about a way to study the Bible. However, in one place, the recommendation was made to have communion by yourself, and another day to say, “Holy Spirit” with an inhale and “Breathe on me” with the exhale. I am not comfortable with this kind of suggestion; I struggle to see it as Scriptural. So, while there is much good in this devotional, there are also a number of reasons that I am not interested in having a physical copy on my shelf.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.
Those who know me, know that Devotionals are a part of my daily life. I am always looking for a themed devotional that pertains to my life. Powerful Whispers: A 7-week Journey Discovering Who You Are To God by Christa Joy Spaeth is the latest Devotional that I have come across and added to my Devotional stacks.
Powerful Whispers is a 7-week Devotional that helps the reader grow closer to God through hearing his Whispers. The Devotional is divided into 7 Chapters. Each day includes a Scripture, a God Whisper, a Personal Message, a Worship Song, an Activity, a prayer, and a time of Reflection. The 7 Chapters include: God Knows You God Loves You God Fights for You God provides for You God Chose You God’s Peace is for You God’s Powerful Whispers Can Change Your Life
I really like the Layout and how easy it is to follow. The Devotional is filled with Encouragement and uplifting sections. I feel quiet time with God is an important time of the day and the Devotional is one that expresses that. Growing closer to God takes us being willing to sit and listen to him "whisper" to us and acknowledge him. I think this is great for individuals, but it could also be used in a Small Group setting. I would recommend this Devotional. FANTASTIC Devotional!
I like the format of this devotional. One or more Scripture verses start it out and then there is a section as if God is speaking to you. The author of that particular devotional then adds a personal teaching or experience illustrating the words from God. To help make reading the devotional a worship experience, a song for listening is suggested. The digital copy I read had the list of songs at the end with links to the You Tube recordings. The next step is a practical application action, something that is too often missing in devotion books. That makes using this devotional more then just a reading experience.
This devotional would be good for Charismatic Christians. The last devotion centers on the filling of the Holy Spirit. The authors also use ideas from others like Wigglesworth, Kuhlman and Bill Johnson.
This is a good devotional for those who would like to better know the heart of God and hear whispers from Him. Readers who like the books by Sara Young will like this one.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Podcaster Christa Spaeth dives deep in the tradition of Jesus Calling and Sharon Garlough Brown’s Sensible Shoes. I enjoy meditative devotionals that make me stop and rethink God’s words, heart, and purposes.
Each day, Christa shares an interpretive version of a Scripture, a whisper from God of the same pattern, and a story how such affected her personally. She calls us to pause and listen to a worship song before challenging us to a specific action in light of what we’d been reading. Though she closes with sweet prayer, she also calls us to continue being still before the Lord, to discuss with Him inwardly or on paper what He was speaking to us through the day’s readings.
The key to growing through this 7-week devotional is being still before the Lord, allowing Him to actually speak to one’s heart and mind, to remove prickly lies, oppressing labels, unforgiven hurts. She invites us into the reality of the Shepherd’s Psalm 23.
Do you want to engage more deeply with your Creator, Protector, and Overseer of your soul? The One who is fighting for you? This devotional is something worth reading, lingering in the presence of the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Who are you to God? I think we all wonder that at times. Christa Joy Spaeth along with a variety of devotional authors help readers discover the answer to this question. Each devotional is divided into several sections: a Scripture passage, a whisper from God, a personal story, suggested worship song to complement the devotional, an exercise to engage you with the teaching, a written prayer, a prompt for reflection. As with any devotional book - some in Powerful Whispers will speak to you and others, not so much. But that’s okay. There will most likely be multiple devotionals throughout this book that really resonate with you. I know there are many that I want to re-visit because they really spoke to my situation and gave me some clarity as to who I am to God. I’m always on the lookout for a meaningful devotional book - this one makes the list. I received a complimentary copy of Powerful Whispers. This is my honest review.
Powerful Whispers: A 7-Week Journey Discovering Who You Are to God is a daily devotional for both men and women. Each day includes: Verses, God’s Whisper, Personal (commentary from the author), Suggested Worship (song referral to listen to), Activation, Prayer, and My Reflection. Every day devotional is only three pages long and easy to fit in for any busy life. I found some much needed inspiration by reading this every day. I loved it.
I am giving Powerful Whispers: A 7-Week Journey Discovering Who You Are to God five stars. I highly recommend it for those who are looking for a devotional and inspires them to discovering themselves.
I received a digital copy of Christa Joy Spaeth’s Powerful Whispers: A 7-Week Journey Discovering Who You Are to God from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I liked how this devotional book was divided into seven weekly pieces. This daily devotional is inspiring. The author does an outstanding job of combining responses and praise songs. That is what makes this devotional unique. I liked how God seemed to be speaking to me personally in this book; it made me think of the writing style of the Jesus Calling devotional.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I requested and received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
Powerful Whispers is written by Christa Joy Spaeth. It's a 7 week devotion that is written to discover who you are to God. It's a great reminder when you feel your self esteem lagging. The book is organized into weekly chapters. Each devotion has a verse, a God Whisper a personal reflection, a suggested worship, an activation and a prayer. I loved the topics and it really was what I needed to hear at this season in my life. There is a journal section at the end of the devotion to write out your thoughts. This would be a good study to go through with a small group. The author does a great job unpacking the topics and keeping everything Biblically sound. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
I am extremely thankful I've had the opportunity to review this short, powerful devotional. It's come right at a time when I really needed it.
I enjoy the layout. Each day starts with a Bible passage, followed by God's Whisper, then a personal message. After that is a suggested worship song, then Activation, which is a suggested activity. This is followed by a prayer, and ends with time for reflection on how God spoke through that day's devotional.
If you need a powerful reminder of who you are and how much you mean to God, I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of this little devotional.
I am so reminded of Elijah looking for God's voice to speak to him in the loudness but it was actually a small yet powerful whisper that encouraged Elijah to arise. Powerful Whispers is such a book! With prayers for every day, wonderful whispers for reflection and a place to write your thoughts down. There are even daily activations that makes the beautiful scriptures within come alive. This is real food for the soul. Christa Harden Spaeth writes in such a beautiful manner that makes this devotional something that everyone must have!
A lot like Jesus Calling to me - very touchy/feely vibe, but I know some really like that. Don't agree with all her interpretations of Scripture (seemed more charismatic and name it and claim it). Not horrible, but not my favorite.
