About the author

Philip Steele was born in Dorking, Surrey, England. He attended University College, Durham, where he studied modern languages. In the 1970s he worked as an editor for various publishers, including Hodder and Hamlyn. In 1980 he moved to the Isle of Anglesey, in North Wales, where he now lives. He has written on a wide range of topics, especially in the fields of history, junior biography, peoples, and cultures.

This is a great little book for kids to read as an introduction to the lore of treasure and may get them to dig deeper into the literature about the subject. The photos of the numerous treasures like porcelain and gold coins are presented in a way that will excite the kids. I remember books like this as a kid in the school library that gave me a rush of excitement. My high rating might be fueled by nostalgia but I think most will enjoy this book with their kids.

Typical DK book, a series I love. Not terribly comprehensive but a good selection of interesting artifacts and information for middle readers.
