Regina Carlysle's "Drilled" is Book eight of the multi-author, Cougar Challenge series.

Lori Donovan accepts the challenge from the Tempt the Cougar blog and pledges to snag a hot young stud, knowing it’ll be tough once she moves back to her Texas hometown.

She expects barren plains and rattlesnakes but finds hunky Jackson Blue drilling for oil on her property instead.

A driller ... Hmm ...

Lori has a few ideas about that, and just about all of them involve her poor, needy, sex-starved body.

Jackson takes one look at the curvy, sexy, older woman and puts his expertise into action. After all, drilling is what he does best. Against the wall, on the floor or in the middle of her bed, he’s the right man for the job.

It’s a hot time in Texas when a tough, sexy drillin’ man meets a sassy cougar, and playing it safe just isn’t an option.

This was a lively little number, which is part of a series apparently. I really struggled between giving it 2 and 3 stars. I couldn't decide whether I liked it or just figured it was OK.

Things I liked:

- It was pure entertainment. The sort of book you don't have to engage your brain for, and where everyone gets what they deserve.

- I liked the hero - gorgeous, Texas oil-driller type.

- I liked the heroine - relatively normal, pleasant divorcee

Things I didn't like so much:

- Yes, it was entertaining, but it was, honestly, totally vacuous. Everyone did get what they deserved, but it was so blatantly one-dimensional. It wasn't annoying but just didn't engage enough to register any emotions beyond whether I should turn out the light a little early whilst reading it and get that early night I'd promised myself (I did BTW)

- The hero was just too frikkin' perfect. Period.

- The whole cougar thing is actually a turn-off for me, which is counter-intuitive because I do like older woman-younger man romances (perhaps I'm just hedging my bets emotionally on the offchance beloved DH gets hit by a bus while reassuring myself that I'd still have a sexlife without having to pay for one). But the whole concept of a series called "Cougar Challenge" I find vaguely distasteful, almost like teasing these lovely women for finding their younger studs, and, I know I'm twisting this pathetically, but it's almost like a veiled insult to a large number of people who are actually going to read these books.

- The communications with girlfriends didn't work for me. I'm never really a fan of dragging in secondary characters for a few lines, and it made the heroine seem like a total wimp or highschooler to me, instead of a 40 year-old woman.

- The price was just too high IMO. Now, prices of books don't usually bother me. I buy content not format, and it's really unusual to find a romance genre book outside a certain price band, unless it is from a particular group of very well-known, very successful, and brilliant authors. I'm also known to pay ridiculous amounts of cash for non-fiction history books (my own personal weakness aside from romance/smut). But, this book was not full-length, either in terms of reading time (I don't count pages any more), or in plot depth and development. It's a nice piece of fluff which can be finished after dinner and before bed - bit longer than a lunch-time novella, and shorter than a full-length mass market paperback equivalent. So, why charge $6.99 for it?

So, I did enjoy this one, as far as it went, and it is ideal if you want a nice little read for the beach with the kids when you want to either not care about interruptions for sand-castle/mud pie construction at some emotional climax, or not worry that you're going to keep track of the plot during said interruptions, but it could have been a whole lot more plot and a whole lot less on the price.

I am not so sure what to think about the series title. But because I am in the mood for a steamy age gap novel, I just completely ignored it and jumped right through reading it.

This is my first book from the author...and also my first book from the series and I am glad that the steamy, sexy story did justice to the steamy, sexy cover. I would have to say, though that things were happening so fast in the story, I guess I would have to get used to it because that's what smut is all about. The conversation among the ladies was not really that interesting, I might have skipped it had it been long or something, but all in all, this is an oldie but goodie read. Will definitely be reading more from the series despite the campy title.

You need a little erotic pick me up an feel good read, go for Drilled! The pun in the title says everything, cowboys, oil fields drilling and sex, lots of it! Lori doesn't think she will get the opportunity to fulfill her cougar pledge and in someways kinda hopes she doesn't have to, but that hope is dashed when she meets Jackson and all her hope turns to fulfilling her lustful thoughts about him. Jackson is fun and forceful and downright sexy!

I have a couple of the Cougar Challenge books but this is the first one I have managed to read (stupid real life) and I will be getting to the others as soon as I can because I truly enjoyed it, it was a short escape from a lot of outside stress I have had to deal with and it make me smile. OK it made me hot and bothered in a very good way!

It is a short story or novella therefore you can read it in a couple of hours and even though it is short and quick to the action you still get real feel for the characters and their feelings. from that first THUD of attraction when the meet to the realisation that this could go somewhere and that panic that can sometimes go with it. You know the one, do they feel the same.

Grab yourself a copy and get reading, 4.5 frilly knickers out of 5, a definite damp panty read!

After her divorce, Lori Donovan moves to her grandparent’s old house with the intention of starting life afresh. That and participating in the Cougar Challenge, a bet set up between friends that they must all ensnare a young man for dates and a hot time between the sheets. Lori isn’t certain she can go through with it—she’s unsure of herself, and besides, there aren’t any young men around where she lives in the middle of nowhere. Is there?

Oh yes there are! Enter the delicious Jackson Blue, a man who sets Lori’s libido to rising and her heart to throbbing—I said heart, okay? Heart! Oh my! Lori takes a deep breath and plunges into the unknown, her lack of self-confidence disappearing as Jackson takes her under his wing and allows her to just be herself. Her new-found confidence is a delight to see, as well as the fact that Jackson obviously adores his older woman.

As well as the story between Lori and Jackson, online correspondence between Lori and her friends is a nice touch. It shows perfectly the way women converse online, and I smiled several times at some of the friends’ comments.

synopsis:
lori has returned to her hometown after her twenty year marriage ended in divorce. the grandparent's land, which she now owns, has large oil deposits on it, and the owner of the company drilling for oil catches her eye. jackson can't wait to get his hands on lori, who turns out to be everything that he wants.

what i liked: jackson and lori. they were level headed and didn't have any misunderstandings. i liked that, although lori's ex cheated on her and made her feel less, she didn't let that affect her relationship with jackson, or her basic self-confidence.

what i didn't like: the relationship built really quickly and you never really saw the build. also, why did the ex-husband have to come back? and why did he have a vasectomy? was that just to make sure that lori wouldn't want to go back to him? doesn't that say that if he hadn't had a vasectomy, she would have?

*4.5* This was a really short read, but it packed so much heat. I also felt empathy for Lori who had devoted 20 years of her life to a marriage only to be divorced and thrown over for a younger woman. Now Jackson Blue is just what this lady needed. He's a Texas oil driller and let me tell you he's good at drilling other stuff. Their chemistry was palpable from the start. Although, the plot was fairly predictable, I really liked the scene at the Honky Tonk with Lori's ex and what followed next.

God, drilled is a great name for this book. Felt really bad for Lori when shitty ex turn up and I know age is not on her side but I would have like Lori to a a few cute mini Jackson just to complete the look. God I LOVE COWBOYS. LOL
