The Clan of Hogan Falls #1

His Shifter Wolf Boss

Rate this book
My clan of wolf shifters wanted me dead for being born a girl... but I didn’t just survive but also met someone that felt like family.

That someone was a boy in the orphanage I grew up in.
I never could have imagined that I’d meet Derek again...
His innocent eyes had a lot of pain in them after all those years.
Perhaps that was the reason I didn’t recognize him at first.

It didn’t matter what my heart felt for him.
I had to keep myself from Derek... at all costs.
There was no way he could find out my real identity.
Derek was human, and I was not.
That was the only fact I needed to remember, especially now that I had hired him as my employee.

But the heart never listens to reason.
One single night changed everything.
The bad boy that I’d been in love with was hiding a secret of his own.
And he was the only one that could make my body shiver with pleasure.

The dream that I’d started living in wasn’t real.
Danger was chasing us... and Derek became the only one that could save my entire world.

Each book in this sexy-as-sin series can each be read as standalones, and has no cliffhangers, but are best read in order.

This book pulls at the heart strings about how female wolf shifters pups were killed because there was two many of them but 8 females survived. Louisa Carlyle was one of them that and where given to Millie at the Orphanage where she took care of them all and that’s where she meet Derek who she had a crush on and then he was adopted and gone and she missed him and when Millie got sick they all looked after her till she died and in her will they where given the Orphanage which they turned into a bed and breakfast which now needs a handyman and they place an ad. Derek is a wolf shifter who only found out at the age 14 when he turned and that’s when his adoptive parents threw him out on the streets which to survive fell in with the wrong crowd and ended up in jail but has just gotten out of jail and he is a carpenter that he learned in jail and now decides to head back home to Hogan Falls where is all started because he blames Millie for everything that happened to him but now he needs job and sees an add for a carpenter and it as it turns out it’s the orphanage he grew up in that’s now a bed and breakfast and the gorgeous female seems familiar and he lands the job and being close to her is a bonus. Louisa has just hired a handyman that she remembers as Derek her secret crush but he doesn’t remember her but there attraction is off the charts and soon there in a relationship together and everything is going well when Louisa old clan finds out she is alive and they come for her but together can they fight them off. How does it all turn out, to get this answers and so much more get this book.

I guess shifter romance isn't for me, because I didn't really get it tbh.

I found the story to be slow, and I wanted more explanations about the characters and their abilities but we didn't get much. It was fine, nothing groundbreaking for me.

No Women Allowed… Until

Loved the uniqueness of the storyline but bedroom scenes interfered with the storyline... I wanted more of the story and not to be interrupted with filler intimacy scenarios... hence 3 1/2 stars.

This is a unique storyline where eight female weres have to keep their wolves hidden, out of sight never to be exposed. It’s not easy being a female wolf when a nearby clan has ulterior motives. Brought to an orphanage as babies, the eight become sisters, maybe not biological but sisters none the less.

Now they are adults and trouble lurks. Remember that nearby clan that wants nothing to do with females? They are on the hunt and Louisa, one of the eight, was born in that pack. Her mother had to sneak her out to save her life. The clan wanted her dead because she was born a girl.

Oh how things over time. Those baby girls now are women, very spirited women at that. Together they are a force to deal with, in more ways than one. And that pack that thought females were a bad omen? They want to lay claim on the one they were going to sacrifice all those years ago. Now they need her for the pack to survive. Female weres are rare and now packs need them to continue to exist.

The danger is real, the women are rambunctious and smart, but just how can you fight when your wolf never was trained for battle? Hmmmm, maybe a little help will show up on the doorstep. His name is Derek and he also was abandoned to that orphanage as a baby. After a troubling life from an adoption that never should have been, Derek longs to visit the only place he knew happiness and security… the orphanage.

Now, I’ve given the background but this story is so much more than background. There’s love, there’s family, there’s danger lurking…. But there also is hope. And that danger? Well, never count abandoned wolves out … especially when life depends on it.

🤔 OBSERVATIONS

✒︎ The author tells readers this is Adult only. Take heed.

✒︎ I prefer plot lines to be more important than bedroom scenes. I found myself skipping over all the detailed intimacy as I wanted to know if and how the dilemma would resolve.

✒︎ What happened to Louisa’s parents? Why did they stay at the clan wanting to ki11 their baby girl? How did the pack know where to find Louisa? How did they know about the locket. I would have preferred answers to gaps like these over the drawn out intimacy talk and scenes.

✒︎ This can be read as a stand alone, however, we are told there is more to come.

New Series!!!!

Eight Shifter babies are abandon on the doorstep of an orphanage in Hogan Falls, deep in the Appalachian Mountains. When they are 12 years old their beloved foster mother, Millie, tells them about their heritage and makes them promise never to tell another soul about their shifter abilities. Their parents, all from different clans, brought them to Millie to save their lives. Their clans were planning on killing them because there were too many females being born. In order to saves their lives, their parents gave them to Millie.

Years later, now adults, they have turned the orphanage that they inherited, into a successful Bed and Breakfast. It’s so busy that none of them have the time, or skills, for upkeep on the old building. Louisa Carlyle, the manager, decides they need a fulltime handyman and puts up an add in the local store hoping they will find someone local that will be willing to work for lower wages in exchange for room and board.

Derek Stevens was a young boy in the same orphanage, but was adopted by a couple and moved away. Everything was fine until he turned 14 and shifted into his wolf for the first time. No one, including him, knew he was a wolf shifter. His adoptive parents were horrified and kicked him out with nothing. He lived on the streets barely surviving until he got in with a group of bad people. Eventually he got caught by the police and was thrown into jail. He just finished his sentence and has been working in a release program as a carpenter and contractor. He is determined to turn his life around and figures the only home he ever felt loved in was a good place to start, Hogan Falls. He can’t believe his luck when he arrives in town and finds an add for a full time handyman. He answers the add and is shocked to find it is the old orphanage, now a bed and breakfast.

Louisa is happy when Derek answers the add for the handyman, but is horrified when she feels her magic triggered by him. She hires him and tells herself she will just stay away from him. Yeah, right! Apparently the feeling is mutual because they can’t seem to keep away from each other. But when someone from Louisa’s clan comes looking for her, she will need all the help she can get to survive!

A great book and looks to be a great series! Can’t wait for the next book!.

Louisa and her seven "sisters" grew up together in a little orphanage in a small valley in the Appalachian Mountains. All eight of them had a secret that the woman who raised them had insisted they must keep hidden for their own safety. Millie had loved her girls and when she died she left them the house they had grown up in. The women had turned their home into a bed and breakfast that was thriving but was also a lot of work. They were taking some time off between the summer and fall bookings. Only Louisa, Jolene, and Yvette were staying local for the break, everyone else was off on adventures.

Louisa reminded the other two women that they really needed to hire a handyman to do the little repairs around the place that none of them could do. Hoping to get someone local, she put up a notice at the grocery store in Hogan Falls. While doing her shopping, she ran into a man that set her magic to sparking. He looked so familiar but she couldn't place him. When he turned up later inquiring about the handyman position, she reluctantly agreed to show him around the place. She was worried about the way her magic went haywire when he was near...

Derek had come back to Hogan Falls after his release from prison, hoping to find the peace he'd known when he was at the local orphanage as a child. He had been adopted and that had turned out to be the worst thing that could have happened. He had resented and blamed Milie for years, but he knew it wasn't her fault. Some of his happiest memories were from when she had cared for him and though he knew she was gone, he still hoped being back here would remind him of better times. When he ran into a woman at the grocery store that aroused his magic, he couldn't get it out of his head that he knew her somehow.

I picked up this box set simply because I was in the mood for a shifter book.

This was a quick read and was enjoyable. It did start a little slow but worldbuilding so I get it. There were a few things that were different about this book than other shifter books like a shifter could not identify another shifter and why in the world would a pack want to kill off all female children.

Louisa family sent her away when the pack wanted to kill the female children in the pack. They found an orphanage that also took 7 other girls. Millie took all the girls in and raised them. The girls stayed together and are now running the old orphanage as a bed and breakfast together.

Derek remembers living at the orphanage before being adopted. He has had a rough go at life since leaving and just needs to get back there. Once there he finds himself the new handyman for the bed and breakfast. Louisa realizes what Derek has always meant to her and he could be the one that helps her and her sisters when the past comes knocking on their door.

I enjoyed seeing Louisa and Derek get to know each other and overcome their fear of being able to open up to each other. I liked that we got to see interactions between three of the sisters just wish I could have been able to get to know the others a bit more. Can I just say I would love to have a secluded cave and a hot spring to get away from everything once in a while too. My heart warmed when Louisa realized the amount of people she had on her side that wanted to help when she needed it most. This was a quick read but packed full the entire read. I cannot wait to jump in and read the rest of the series.

Millie Hogan runs an orphanage in Hogan Falls. Some of the girls that are there in the same age group are: Louisa, Penny, Jolene, Shelby, Darby, Felicia, Erin and Yvette. They were the last she accepted into the orphanage because of a huge secret. When they turned 12, she began to tell them of why they were in the orphanage.

After Millie’s death, the orphanage was left to the 8 women, and they turned it into their home and a bed and breakfast. It had been open now for three years. They are on holiday and are trying to find someone to take care of the stuck doors, problems with the roof etc. Derek Stevens has returned to late to see Millie. But he is drawn to the B and B after seeing the For hire sign and Louisa at the grocery store. He too has a past, but Millie didn’t know about it like she did about the girls.

Each woman is in charge of different things and they work so well together and consider each other family. Derek and Louisa are drawn to each other. This is a great beginning of a new series. I loved it and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Louisa and her friends run a bed and breakfast, it used to be an orphanage which is where they grew up. They realise they need some help to fix the place up so they put out an advert for a handyman.
Derek is back in town after leaving the orphanage when he was adopted at age 10. However, his adoptive life didn't turn out as planned and he has only recently been released from jail. He turned his life around in jail and is now a qualified contractor.
He sees the sign for a handyman at the orphanage he used to live at and thinks it is a sign he should follow.
Both are shifters, but have both hidden their true natures out of fear. However, there is a strong pull between them, where their magic surfaces when they are near each other. It is not long before their secrets are revealed to each other, but Louisa needs Derek to keep her and her friends secret as they fear retribution from their old clan.

I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.

This book gets a 3.5 for me. I enjoyed the summary and the cover looked awesome. I felt like it had a lot of potential and it just fell short for me. Others might think it’s better or worse but for me it was kinda disappointing.

I felt like it was kinda jumping all over the place, from their first meeting, to falling in love, to her clan, and then to a wedding. It was so fast paced it fell flat bc it didn’t allow the story to flow together as well. Now don’t get me wrong I’m a sucker for a love story whether it’s love at first sight or a slow build up and tho this was like a love at first sight kinda thing it didn’t really feel natural.

Also ik it was only like maybe 200 pages so it wouldn’t have been a very intricate and detailed story but I’ve read many books the same length that gave me more.

All in all it was an okay book and hopefully this author keeps writing bc I feel like there’s great story ideas there and to another reader don’t just take my review for it, if this book is up your alley give it a try yourself, who knows you could love it where I didn’t.

Derek is drawn back to Hogan Falls just like a compass cannot help but point North. It is a bittersweet return and he has is a very different man to the young boy who left the orphanage for a new life. One that was sweet until things beyond his control changed and his life took a serious down turn. That is all behind him now, what he needs is a new start. What is much more frightening is that he also seems to need is the woman with the grey eyes he met when he first got to town. What is going on? Louisa just wants the former Orphanage that she and the other girls lived in to not fall apart around them. They don't have lots of money but not getting stuck in a room because the door keeps jamming is not an option. She puts up an ad in the local store and is rather taken aback when the handsome man with the captivating green eyes shows up for it. She's not sure that she should hire him but then again she's not convinced she can actually say no either...

Revealing Secrets . . .

An orphanage in Hogan Falls saved the lives of a group of babies whose shifter clans were going to kill them off as too many females were being born. Now adults, the woman have turned the orphanage into a Bed & Breakfast, but they need a handyman to repair the old building. Derek Stevens, who was also at the orphanage but left when he was adopted, applied for the job.

Louisa feels herself react to Derek and decides she needs to keep her distance so he won’t find out her secret. But Derek is attracted to her as well, and he has his own secret to keep. And when a man from Louisa’s clan comes looking for her, telling her the clan who had tried to kill her when she was born is demanding she come “home” now and perform her “duty” to the clan, Derek doesn’t hesitate to step up and protect her from the danger he threatens. Will they be able to keep her old clan away from her? Or do they have one more idea that might keep them all safe?

Louisa and her friends now run the orphanage they were raised in as a B&B. Needing someone to be a live-in handyman they put out an ad. Derek has come back to Hogan Falls and seeing the ad he applied for the job. He used to live at orphanage until he was adopted but he kept quiet about it and his recent past which was not good. His attraction to Louisa is off the scale but they both have secrets that they are hiding. But when the reason that Louisa was put in the orphanage comes to light and she is threatened they all have to embrace their true selves and cone together to create a new life and a new claim. I loved reading this book. A bit of intrigue and full of surprises, you will not want to put this book down. A great start to the series and I look forward to the next one.

This book is awesome! The first in a new series and Serena is off to a running start! The story will bring together Louisa and Derek. Their paths have crossed in the past but it will take them a bit to realize it when they cross paths again as adults. Derek is looking to start a new life and Louisa is forging forward with her close friends running a bed and breakfast. I love the way their relationship develops and how the memories of the past will have them looking toward the future. There is a bit of trouble that will come from Louisa’s past but together with Derek, her close friends and a man who has watched over them all, they will forge a new path forward not just for themselves but for the shifters who found themselves with a clan due to decisions made by others in the past.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This is the first book in the new series The Clan of Hogan Falls. Louisa and her friends inherit the orphanage they grew up in and turned it into a bed and breakfast. Millie raised the eight girls when they were rejected as babies by their various clans. Louisa is very serious, tending to be the stick in the mud and the bossy one. She also suppresses her wolf rarely letting her out. Derek made some bad decisions when he was younger that ended with him in prison. He's in town to reminisce and make some decisions on his future. Louisa and Derek's attraction is stronger than they've ever felt before but the old clans are coming for Louisa and her sisters. Great start to the series, steamy, can't wait for the next book.

Millie has eight shifter babies placed at her orphanage, all girls from various clans, they survived a massacre of female cubs, that was designed to cut down on the number of females. She takes them and does not say anything about their origin until twelve years later, making them promise not divulge their shifter abilities.

Now the the eight of them have inherited the orphanage and have turned it into a B&B. The old building is need of a lot of repair and they decide to hire a fulltime handyman.

Derek has been released from jail and makes his way back to Hogan Falls, as it was the only place he ever felt accepted. When he applies for the job at the B&B he did not expect to find his fated mate. Both are keeping secrets from the other.

Great start to a new series! Louisa, along with her 7 orphaned sisters are wolf shifters who are hiding from their clans. Derek was an orphan who was adopted out when he was younger and didn’t know he was a wolf shifter. Louisa and Derek use to have breakfast together when they were younger, and both had a little crush on the other and didn’t know each other’s secret. When Derek returns as an adult, things heat up between them once they realize they knew each other back then.

Lots of action, revelations, secrets, passion, and obstacles. What happens when the clan comes looking for Louisa? Will Derek and her sisters be able to save her from going back to a place they were supposed to be killed? Looking forward to reading more from this series. Derek returns

First book in this series much more original then most wolf supernatural storylines, but was a little slow in telling and could of been much better with all the lovely sister like characters should of been more banter and funny girl talk.I'm guessing Bob and his men might be love interest for the lady's that's why they never meet in this book (Bob is taken) we only meet Bob in this one and a cameo in wolf form from the men.(that was funny)
Loved derek, I do think the titles of these books are not great should of been something like, the return of derek, the beginning of Hogan falls or new clan.
I did find one thing odd ok they kind of explains you need a married couple to form a clan well the beginning away. But all the girls was a pack maybe not a clan because no alpha yet but they was still a pack of wolves.under the Hogan falls.

Louise and some other girls were raised in an orphanage by Millie. When she passed, they took they place over and run it as a B&B. Derek is a shifter and was at the orphanage Millie ran when he was younger. He is just out of jail and returns to town and sees that flyer for a carpenter needed. He applies and sparks fly between him and Louise. However, trouble comes in the form of the people that had wanted Louise dead when she was a kid. Will she be able to keep them out of her life? Will something more develop between her and Derek?

This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

A little Strange

I gave it 3 stars simply because no one can tell who's a shifter & who isn't , A shifter should know a shifter from normal humans & they're calling it a clan instead of a pack. A clan is usually for Bear shifters. Seems no one knows what a shifter mates are they're just attracted to each other get married like humans instead of biting & bonding. This should have been a regular love story without adding shifters. I'm just saying only because I read a lot of shifter story and it drives me crazy when they leave out a lot of the normal . Shifters run in packs, has an Alpha, Beta, warriors, etc. Good luck! I gave it 3 mostly because it's a fairly decent love story . Judge for yourself unfortunately it wasn't to my liking.

Ok Story

This novella or short story is about Louisa and Derek, who met at a store. Both were in the same orphanage but barely remember each other. This book explores a rekindled love trope.
Halfway through the book and there is still no real action or problems besides the stating of female shifters not being wanted. By the end, we see a possible upcoming problem with her old clan. The only solution is to start a new clan. Kind of miffed that they dont state that there is a mating bond between the wolves, only the fact that there is magic around..... I guess that is the authors' take on the soul mate thing for wolves. The ending was very anticlimactic, and I can only hope the next books have more substance to them.

What a great story! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Louisa and Derek, who are wolf shifters. Derek has had a hard life, and now he is finally free to return back to where he grew up in the orphanage, only to discover that the orphanage is now Bed and Breakfast, which is run by Louisa and seven other women who had also grown up in the orphanage. This story is how Louisa comes to grips with her inner magic and how Derek helps her to have fun, and to also recognise that he is her fated mate and to form the clan of Hogan Falls, there is a happily ever after for this lovely couple.

I enjoyed reading this story. 8 women hiding their secret from the world. Louisa has always taken charge of their group growing up in Millie's orphanage. Once grown these women stuck together. Louisa has never really done anything crazy, until Derek showed up. Derek returned home to see how things changed since he left. Looks like fate steps in to give what Louisa and Derek need. This was a great read. Serena Meadows is a great author, who writes a great story. I highly recommend this read, I know you'll enjoy it.

This is part one of The Clan of Hogan Falls series. From the start, your attention is drawn to the story of Louisa and Derek. Louisa has a secret and is on the run and hiding because she doesn't want them to find out who she is and the secret of what she really is. She meets Derek and the attraction is there between them, but there are also a lot of things going on in the background. As you read, you hope that they can be together and that he will stay when he finds out who or what she is. A nice story this.

This was a fab start to a new series and I'm quite excited about it as this book was an exciting and steamy read. Derek and Louisa, met as children and then unexpectedly reconnect as adults, find they have a connection that goes beyond being childhood friends. Both are complex characters and come with baggage, so it was great to see them coming together with a strong mating bond. Of course, nothing is simple and when the past comes calling for her, Derek is ready to save the day ;) There was a big twist in this story, as well as secrets, danger, some drama and an epilogue to get us ready for the next book. I can't wait ;D

Some bad stuff happens to him but once he is freed he heads back to the place he loved. He hires on as a handyman for a bed n breakfast, once the orphanage. Since the 8 girls see themselves as sister they all come together with the help of friends to deal with the threats coming their way. I loved that this couple was being reunited since they were separated during their childhood. All the parts of this book were good from the wonderful characters, the plot behind the seclusion of the "sisters," and the sexy scenes. I couldn't put this book down until I finished it - and it was just the right length for me since I seem to prefer books under 200 pages!! And, as usual, I can hardly wait for the next book in this brand new shifter series.

This is a wonderfull written start to this series. It tells the story of Louisa and Derek who lived together in the orphanage and see each other again years later. Louisa and her friends, who also grew up in the orphanage, have turned the orphanage into a B&B and are looking for a handyman. Derek is looking for a new job.... How a new clan arises tells this story. I'm not going to say anything else, just read it. It's a great story with a lot of unconditional friendship, love and unexpected twists. I loved it and hope to read the next book soon.

Who is Millie Hogan? Where is she from? What if anything does she do for work? Who are Louisa, Jolene, Shelby, Darby, Penny, Felicia, Erin, and Yvette? How do they all know one another? Who is Derek? How does he know Millie? What has his life been like? Where do we find him now? Oh, how the sparks fly about 1/4 of the way into the book. Things got really tense when a strange man showed up with something for Louisa. What did he want? What do we learn from Ben about all the ladies? Enjoy the read and the teaser into book two. Really fun start to a new series!

Serena writes beautiful, engrossing love stories with depth.

This is Louisa and Derek's story, both of whom have a secret. Louisa has resigned herself to a life running the Bed and Breakfast she set up with her childhood friends. Derek has come back to resolve his issues with the past. The attraction between the two is instantaneous and completely compelling.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next in the series.
