With over 4.1 million copies in print, Elizabeth Koda-Callan's Magic Charm Books is the little series that could. Now, The Silver Slippers takes a dramatic new turn with a fresh redesign featuring a new cover and an irresistible 5" x 6 1³2" trim size--a smaller book for smaller hands, and the perfect stocking stuffer. The look is contemporary, yet as classic as the story inside, with its ageless message of "Good things happen when you believe in yourself." And, of course, nestled inside the cover is a charm on a matching gold or silver chain.
This is yet another book that was a staple in my childhood. I remember my parents presenting this book to me after one of my very early dance recitals. And I hardly put the book down and wore the ballet slipper necklace every day!
"The Silver Slippers" is the story of a young girl who cannot seem to find her balance in her dance class. She is eager to twirl across the floor like the other girls, but is still a bit clumsy. Until one day, her mother presents her with a necklace that contains two tiny silver ballet slippers. While wearing the necklace, the girl begins to feel more confident and starts to see herself for what she truly is: a talented ballerina.
Not only is the story heartwarming, but this book would be a wonderful gift to present to the young dancer in your life. I know it surly left an impact on me!
So funny, because when I saw this I thought it was the book that my mother had read me as a child, but now I realized that she actually read me a different one of this author's books The Shiny Skates. The emssage appears to be the same in both books, but I'd like to reread the other one to see how closely their storylines actually match up.
The Silver Slippers is a picture book with adorable illustrations and comes with your very silver slippers necklace! This story teaches the reader that practice pays off. I am not sure how I like that so much emphasis is placed on the slippers, though. Still, it is a very nice story and good for children.
This book has been passed down from my mom to me and a book I will hold onto it until my kid is old enough to read it before passing it down to them. This book is great for young kids and teaches them how to practice hobbies or interests to improve their skills and also teaches them how to handle stage fright. This book as a kid was a big inspiration for building confidence and I hope it can do the same for my future students as well!
I have always loved this book. It is a great story of determination and how if you want to be good at something it is important to practice if you're determined to achieve something. It also showed that it is okay to be nervous at times for a big performance but that you will still do great no matter what. I also loved it because when I was younger I really loved ballet.
*sigh* I understand the impulse to provide positive feedback for putting extra effort into what you want to achieve-- but leading kids to believe that extra practice can turn a child who struggles with a physical activity into a star at it is a) wrong and b) kind of icky.
A young girl struggles in ballet class but wants to be prima ballerina in her recital. Her mother presents her with a necklace with a charm of silver ballet slippers. After that she works really hard to achieve her goal. A great story about determination. I remember this coming with a necklace like the one in the book.
This is a story about a little girl who feels she is not good enough or have the right skills to be a ballerina. One day her mother gives her a silver necklace of ballet slippers, which inspires her to keep trying. This is a great story for early childhood students to practice reading, and also be able to find a story that they can relate to. This was one of my childhood favorites.
this was one of my most favorite books as a little girl . I loved how it came with a necklace of silver slippers that i could wear. Even though I read this book so many years ago I have never forgotten it and never will.
My daughter was tidying her bookshelves and found this. We have no idea where it came from, but I read it quickly before I donated it to an op shop. A worthy but very ordinary tale of a girl with dreams to be a ballerina.
I got this book as a present when I was three years old. It came with a necklace that had two silver ballet slippers on a charm. Still have the necklace, too. One of my favorite books growing up.
