Wolmark concisely traces points of confluence and dissonance between major works in sf written by women from the decades of 1960, 70 and 90. Mandatory reading for scholars in the field.
Aliens and Others is a very heavy academic book, so it you're looking for a lighter read, stay away. However, for those who are interested in some hard theory on feminism, postmodernism, and scifi, Wolmark's book is an interesting exploration of different scifi stories through these two theoretical lens. I had some issues with the way postmodernism was defined (well, specifically her concentration on a particular theorist that she didn't agree with, but perhaps he was one of the few writing about postmodernism and scifi), and some of her theoretical frameworks, but overall it was an informative and interesting academic work.
