Karen E. Taylor is the author of The Vampire Legacy Series of novels, published by Kensington Books. A voracious reader of vampire/horror novels, Karen first started writing Blood Secrets in January, 1988. She conceived of writing the novel while living across the street from a very large cemetery. It was never intended to be the first book of an ongoing series, but fans who had read the novel demanded a sequel. To date, the series stands at seven titles, and has earned a cult following. Her short stories have appeared in numerous anthologies, including: Love Bites, 100 Vicious Little Vampires, 100 Wicked Little Witches, A Horror Story A Day, and Seductive Spectres. Karen E. Taylor was born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburbs. A graduate of Churchill area High School and later of Grove City College, her first love was the theater, but now she admits that writing is better; "You get to write all the lines and play all the parts." She currently resides outside of Los Angeles, CA with her husband and pets.
Today's review is on Karen E Taylor's second book in Hunger titled Bitter Blood
Bitter Blood picks up just two years after Deirdre Griffin leaves New York. She has been in Europe working with her business partner as a pub owner until a young "Yank" comes looking for her. But this Yank is not whom she expected to see. It is Chris, Mitch's son, and he has come to Deirdre seeking help for his father.
Mitch has been in institutionalized because he has been seeing mythological creatures...vampires. They have be haunting and tormenting him. Finally seeming to give up on any one believing him, Mitch stops talking about the vampires and just hums an old song. That is until Deirdre returns to New York and visits him in the hospital. She goes to his side and sings the words to him and receives an unexpected welcome home "gift".
Mitch recovers and both he and Deirdre are back together, but not without problems. Max for one, may be dead, but he is still along for the ride in an most unusual way, and he's not the only ghost in town. There are also others who want revenge for Max's death and they want blood. Deirdre's to be exact, after she confesses to Max's best friend Victor that it was actually she who killed him.
Mitch and Deirdre go through many up's and down's in Bitter Blood as both new and old character's are added to the mix, with surprises around every turn of the page.
I have already ordered the remaining books in this series and will anxiously await their arrival.
I didn't like Mitch in the first book, so I was displeased to see him back in this one. H
e is a little too possessive of a character and not in a good way. Rather, he makes me nervous for what his attitude could be if he were with a human woman.
The mystery of what happened to him was quite good and I really did enjoy learning more about how Max had become the monster he was. But this book was lacking in so many other spaces, the characters remain unfulfilled it seems, and the nature of their relationship has left me shaking my head in disappointment.
Vampire, Deirdre Griffin and her boyfriend Mitch killed her maker Max, and now the coalition of vampires is out to get even. To make matters worse, Max's haunting Deirdre, and Mitch has gone crazy! How will they get out of this mess!
I LOVE THIS SERIES. I WON THIS BOOK IN A GOODREADS GIVEAWAY AND I AM SO GRATEFUL. OTHER WISE, I MAY NEVER HAVE FOUND THEM. THANK YOU KAREN TAYLOR FOR SENDING ME THE BOOK. LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THE NEXT ONES. KEEP UP THE GREAT WRITING.
Book two of the series and I really liked this one. I agree with some of the others that it was kind of a typical vamp read but it was also very different. I really liked the first two books and I'm on my way to read the 3rd. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good vampire series.
I love the book, but I dislike that this is the only book I've read. I wished I had the other parts too... By the end of the book I ended up crying really hard. The story was amazing.
