The Monsieur Jean series from Dupuy is hilarious and endearing. We follow Monsieur Jean through Paris as a single guy with his misadventures and feel like he is one of our friends (well, living in Paris certainly helps for that). This first volume had me laughing out loud and running out to buy the next one!

I quite enjoy these tales of a french bachelor in his late 20s/early 30s. Meeting girls, bumping into exes, dealing with old friends, cat sitting. Pretty mundane slice-of-life stuff. All pretty funny and enlightening.

Petits épisodes du quotidien de ce gentil Monsieur Jean qui échange avec nous ses frustrations, espoirs, fantaisies avec les filles comme ses désarrois avec sa concierge. Le personnage est très attachant et les scènes drôles et pleine de poésie aussi.

Olen lukenut Jeanin elämää -sarjan muistikuvieni mukaan moneenkin otteeseen vuosia sitten, ja totesin tänään kolme ensimmäistä albumia luettuani, että tämä sarja on edelleen yhtä hyvä :D

Jeanin elämä koostuu ainakin muutaman ensimmäisen albumin ajan Jeanin naisseikkailuista sekä kirjailijan arjen vähemmän hohdokkaista puolista. Hahmot ovat erittäin ilmeikkäitä ja tuntuvat todella omilta persooniltaan. Sarjassa on paljon huumoria, joka nojautuu melko usein Jeanin epäonnisiin kohtaamisiin muiden hahmojen kanssa - mutta sarja tuntuu silti jotenkin lempeältä eikä Jeania koskaan potkita päähän kohtuuttoman paljon. Joskus huvittavassakin tarinassa on mukavan katkeransuloinen loppu.

Muistaakseni neljännessä albumissa sarjaan tulee pidempi ja selkeämpi juonikaari; kolme ensimmäistä albumia sisältävät lyhyempiä tarinoita jotka eivät linkity toisiinsa kovinkaan vahvasti.

Tutustuin tähän sarjikseen ensimmäistä kertaa, oli oikein mukava uusi tuttavuus. Jostain syystä kiinnitin huomioni useissa stripeissä oleviin lankapuhelimiin ja siihen, että elokuvatuottajalla oli jo pöytäpuhelimen sijasta antennilla varustettu kookas matkapuhelin. Näistä oli helppo päätellä, että sarjikset ovat syntyneet -90-luvulla :) Jeanin elämästä voisin lukea lisää.

J'aimais bien lire Henriette dans Je Bouquine quand j'étais gamine, donc j'ai acheté les 2 tomes de Monsieur Jean chez Boulinier : d'un charme un peu désuet, mais pas désagréable.

Borrowed this on Comixology Unlimited. It's a perfectly enjoyable slice of life comic. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either.

Entiendo que es parte de una serie de volúmenes y que leí uno solo. Lo bueno es que es suficiente para saber que no tengo que leerlos más!

God bless translations and new editions. I have always at least a whole bookshelf full of unread books and very seldom have the time to go back and re-read books. But I got the Norwegian edition of this book and was for that reason inspired to read it again, which was a blessing. I used to read Monsieur Jean avidly when the series was still ongoing and loved every volume, but as it stopped I moved on to other things and had, if not forgotten it then at least forgotten how good it was.

Dupuy and Berberian, who share both writing and drawing these stories also base them on their own experiences, and that I think is what makes them so compelling. For me, these comics are near perfect in their combination of a modern take on French-Belgian traditional (children's) comics style and stories that talk to an older, more mature audience.

So, now I'm going to pick forth the rest of the Monsieur Jean books and re-read them all. Really looking forward to that, though its a shame that there has not been any new books for almost a decade. I would really like to know what became of Monsieur Jean.

The beginning of a series about the life of Jean, an author in his 30's who leads a normal life in Paris. The tone is wonderfully low-key, but also very funny and sharp without forgetting the power of nuance. Jean is a guy I'll happily spend time with during the course of upcoming volumes.
