Well, one won't actually be able to 'master' composition and light but this is an excellent introduction lavishly illustrated with explained examples for a learning photographer or even someone wanting to review the basics. This was published in the early 1980s, well before digital photography. However, composition and light are still key in composing pictures so the concepts and topics remain timely today. Since this is targeted for film photography, there are some very good mentions of what types of filters to use for lenses to capture effects. Even with digital photography, the actual photo captured and how it was captured are the foundation for an effective picture.
