A biologist who specializes in wolves heads to Arizona to investigate a series of mysterious slayings and becomes involved with an enigmatic man who sleeps behind bars and disappears when the moon is full. Original.
I have been writing fiction for so long I can barely remember when I didn't. Sometimes people ask where I get my ideas and I can't comment too much on "ideas" either, since they come one at a time from different sources. SHADOW ON THE MOON came from a submission call for paranormal romance and since vampires were fairly well owned already, I decided to do werewolves. After that it became--and this is true for all books--a matter of putting the story together, scene by scene, then going back and making sure to leave in the good parts and take out the boring parts (which is my writing motto).
That seems to work for me. I've made a half dozen or so national bestseller lists, won a PRISM award for my sci-fi time-travel and been a finalist in a number of other well known writing contest. Now, I'm jumping into the pool of previously traditionally published authors who are choosing to publish independently. I'm truly enjoying the freedom and control this gives an author.
Dana's a biologist and wolves are her passion. On a mission to save a possible pack of wolves from being ruthlessly murdered by over-eager officials she travels to the wilderness where she gets caught up in a blizzard that slams her automobile into a snowbank, bonks her head and knocks her out cold. Luckily Morgan, a compassionate werewolf and real hunk of a man, is nearby witnessing the accident. He digs her out, brings her to his home and saves her life. When she regains consciousness she's finds herself facing the biggest, hairiest looking man she's ever met but underneath all of that hair she spies two of the most beautiful and haunted eyes she's ever seen.
The ongoing storm makes travel impossible so she's stuck with weird Morgan who locks himself up at night, plays disturbing music and has the oddest visitors who seem oblivious to the storm. Soon she begins to suspect that Morgan is hiding a thing or two from her and she becomes desperate to get back home but is torn and a bit reluctant to leave the lonely man who sets her blood to boiling. And Morgan's got to do everything in his power to keep her safely with him, for just a few more days, before his enemies can destroy her and so he'll be able to perform a ceremony that'll put an end to his tortured way of life. Oh, and in order for the ceremony to work he's got to make her fall in love with him - kind of a hard feat to accomplish when he's keeping her prisoner!
This was an appealing plot for a werewolf fan like myself but those looking for an emotional love story will most likely be disappointed. The couple have an electric sensual attraction but they don't have conversations. He orders her to stay put because of the dangers outside and she continually defies him and goes outside and gets herself into trouble anyway. The book also lacked those precious tender moments that show the reader they're falling deeply for each other. The few fun encounters they had were more sexual than relationship enhancing (not that that's a bad thing but I do like a blend of the two).
Those complaints aside I just want to reaffirm that I did enjoy the book and think all of you werewolf/weird stuff fans should check it out. Although this wasn't an emotionally engaging story, it was easy to read and kept me interested. The hero was a great tortured werewolf/alpha-guy and I liked reading about his dogs. The villianess was very bad bordering on psychotic and I was never sure what she was going to do next. She fascinated me and I'm anxious to read her story in SHADOW OF THE WOLF.
Dana has dedicated her life to the protection and preservation of wolves. It’s that fight that brings her out into a remote mountain canyon at night in the middle of a snow storm. It might not be the smartest idea but Dana has spent her childhood and adulthood in the woods so she is savvy and levelheaded. Too bad, this time she might not be dealing with the natural world and finds herself spooked. Crashing her car into a snowdrift.
Morgan witnesses this crash and knows that it’s not smart to bring this woman into his world but the hope that she might be the prophesied one, the one who will save him, is too much to deny. So, he saves her life and cares for her in is remote cabin. His only rule, don’t go outside after dark and ignore the strange noises she’ll hear coming from his room.
The pair fall into a comfortable partnership over the next few days as the storm rages outside. Dana is desperate to leave but Morgan is desperate for her to stay. When Dana can no longer ignore the signs that Werewolves truly to exist and in fact, her new flat mate is one of them, she turns her attention to saving the man she’s come to love.
I found this book to be rather boring and repetitive, not to mention more then a bit toxic in regards to Morgan basically imprisoning Dana in his cabin. There were many times he could have brought her back to her car but didn’t because he was convinced she could reverse his werewolf disease and turn him once more into a man. I personally couldn’t find love coming from that. Morgan was charmingly gruff though and described as a burly mountain man so in that regard, sign me up.
What this book lacked was, in short, a plot. There was this ritual that Morgan needed Dana to do but that wasn’t discussed much until further in. The majority of the book is Dana in the cabin alone while Morgan dealt with the other wolves in the area. I couldn’t see myself re-reading it again and am surprised that 1 have recorded 3 reads already. It’s not a remarkable book.
This book is quite good. I liked how the author wrote a story that didn't follow the normal werewolf ones. I love the story. Dana is quite rebellious. But she is also very strong willed and is full of love. Morgan is a great character. The internal battles he faces are very intriguing. I like all the characters. The story itself is told in a way that is easy to follow. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended
Although I enjoy books dealing with the paranormal, I generally avoid the vampire and werewolf stories. I bought this book on a whim and was hooked immediately. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it was well written, and I finished it in one day. I love when a book grabs you right from the beginning so much so that you can't put it down. This was my 1st book by Connie Flynn, and I look forward to reading more of her books. I highly recommend this book.
This book was a fun read. It was about a woman that stumbled upon a man and as the story unfolded turns out this man was a werewolf. This had romance, mystery and all around a good read. Beauty and the beast came to mind during the story. I would recommend this book to those that like the paranormal but also like a quick fast read.
very well written. details were fantastic. wish it was longer :( but thoroughly enjoyed it none the less. very familiar with paranormal genre and this one is one of the better more accurate than what out there.
Shadow on the Moon by Connie Flynn is Paranormal Romance at its best, an intriguing read from first page to last. Flynn's fresh approach to the world of the werewolf is masterfully delivered.
i really enjoyed this one. the plot was very interesting and kept my attention and the characters made me fall for them and want to know whats happening.
I mistook what this book was about, but soon enough it proved itself to be a romance set in a fantasy setting, but some weird scenes right in the beginning put me off it.
