In Youngin', you met the unforgettable characters of Brian Moore and Devon Carter. In Ol'Timer, you followed Brian through the Department of Corrections as he brought into the insanity in order to remain sane. Now in this fiery finale, Devon flees to the only place on the planet he knows the New York City Police Department or the Long Island set that he double crossed wouldn't dare follow Kingston, Jamaica. He quickly establishes himself as a quiet storm of terror when he links up with his reckless cousin and two drop-dead gorgeous women who are as deadly as they are beautiful.Things heat up in paradise when Devon crosses paths with the fiercest rude boy on the Island and discovers that they are connected by an event so shocking that they will face off in a showdown that will make one of them a living legend; and the other ancient history.Paper Trail was the greatest story never told.
Having read the novel previous to this one “In the cut”, I felt Ms. Brathwaite was one to lookout for. I was trying to find time to read the two previous novels in this series but never could. After hearing much talk about “Paper Trail” I bit the bullet and read it without having read its predecessors. Ms. Brathwaite has talent. I was entertained and stayed up at night to see what was going to happen next. I fell in love with Devon, the main character. Amazingly I only had two questions about the previous books and one was answered in the book. The second wasn’t really a big deal I just wanted to know who the “woman in the park” was and was told she was just that. So needless to say I finished the book feeling like I was up to speed and saying the way this book was written was EXCELLENT. I am STILL going to find time to read the two previous in this series.
I was impressed with the way the book starts. I have to say the introduction to readers and the start of the story is something very new for me. Not to be outdone the ending was perfect. Everything in between is action packed and drama filled - all that is expected in a novel. Devon Carter has been on the run from the police ever since his right hand man Brian was locked up and turned on. I get the feeling the readers have been asking what has happened to Devon and they will not be disappointed. Devon is doing big things and “hiding in plain sight.” Devon was so much more than a drug dealer; he has the brains, wit and the good looks to carry him far in the life of crime.
To sum it up, I’m not sure who all was in the previous novels but whether they were new or old they all worked well with the story. Ivory, Ginja (who was my favorite other than Devon), Recker, the General, Knots, Porter, Dane, Ripper, Stripes, Arlene and of course Brian were all vital characters and each served a purpose and had a point to be made. I would recommend reading the first two ONLY because Ms. Brathwaite is such a great story teller that I am confident that the readers would not be disappointed. On that note, either way, you can read “Paper Trail” as it is written as a stand-alone book.
Good read highly recommended. I enjoy reading this writers novel, she truly have the gift of story telling. This novel tied in very nicely with book 1 and 2. What makes it more surreal is that the reader could pick anyone of the trilogy and not be lost. There is a few questions that Mrs. Braithwaite left the reader hanging with. 1-Did Quana ever find out the extent Devon's relationship with Gingya was? 2- Did Devon ever get married to Quana? How did the scar on his face heal and what was Quana reaction when she saw them. 3-Why did Molina have to bribe Arlene into writing her story and when will it be available in eform. I gave this writer a five star, because the book was action packed from the begining. It was also realistic and I liked the way she tied herself as one of the characters. Keep up the good work and I'll keep reading your novels.
Paper Trail was a good story. I loved how the author focused on Devon's story and how it tied all in with Youngin 1 & 2.
Wanted in New York for murder, Devon takes his money a flees to Jamaica with the help of his Uncle. When he gets to Jamaica he hooks up with his cousin Recker and his crew. Together they build an empire together and quickly become the go to people. During this journey Devon learns to trust and love, something he thought that he would never do.
