INTWINE is a unique and heart-felt Science Fiction series. It s both down-to-Earth and exploding with action, space travel and plot twists. This four-part series is a coming of age adventure with a cast of lovable characters. The INTWINE Series is highly praised for its smooth-flowing story line, richly described scenes and vivid page-turning adventures.
Christina Moss is the author of INTWINE, INSIGHT, INCIRCLE, INVIRAL, and Vampire of My Dreams.
Born in Winchester, Massachusetts Christina was raised and educated in New England where she worked as a teacher and guidance counselor for a private school in Cambridge.
Julie is not having the best start to her summer vacation. Her boyfriend cheated on her and some strange man tries to snatch her off the street. Then, she meets Seth (thanks to Remy the dog), and while in the process of getting to know him better finds out that he is from another planet. The two of them have an awesome summer full of adventure, danger, and they fall in love.
The romance between Seth and Julie is well done. They are respectful, thoughtful, and so sweet towards each other. They are a great match, and their love is believable. They have their challenges, but manage to work through them together. I can't believe all of what they went through in one summer. I started to get worried about their future together at one point because Seth's home planet is so far away. I wondered if they could make things work over the long term and what would happen to them. Talk about a long distance relationship!
One of the other characters that I really enjoyed was Seth's younger brother, Matt, who was cute and sweet, yet very thoughtful and wise for his young age. I also liked Julie's best friend, Nicole. She is supportive, enthusiastic, and the kind of friend we all wish we could have.
All of the characters are very well developed, are intelligent (except maybe Marty!), and have quirky, but fun personalities. There are some good lessons and advice given by the characters and it made me really think about some things in my own life.
I think Intwine is an excellent book that almost anyone would enjoy. It makes the sci-fi genre more interesting and appealing because it doesn't feel like you have to be a rocket scientist to understand it. I became very attached to this book, and started to more slowly because I didn't want it to end. I am so glad there are more books in the series to read! I highly recommend Intwine.
Sorry, really didn't manage to get into this one. Both sci-fi and fantasy, Young adult or not, I've read better. The storytelling is rather bland, there is an overload of dialogue, and way too much tell, don't show to suit my reading preferences. As for the characters, I do like Seth quite a bit, even though I often don't understand his actions. A bit more honesty, please, and yes, try to ask other persons before deciding once in while, thank you very much. Juliette on the other hand annoyed me from the first moment I read her point of view until the very end. I'm sorry, but this girl has no character, no measureable sign of intelligence, no character and not a lot of morals. She doesn't reflect on what's happening, why it's happening, and what this is doing to anyone around. She doesn't THINK, full stop. I detest her whining, her Valley Girl shallowness, her lack of regard for anyone aside herself, maybe her best friend, and just maybe Seth. Maybe. Not a given. The story is full of unnecessary talking, and lacking both a sufficient amount of action and any kind of plotline that it would seem to follow. I just didn't get the point. Why telling us? Can't have been a school assignment - that would be a failure due to major lack of plotline. Anyway, I do have the follow-up books on my Kindle, but I'm not sure I'm going to read those. Enough of the boredom already.
Juliette is a sweet small town girl whose summer break starts off badly after she realizes her boyfriend cheated on her. A friendly dog she meets on the street helps her overcome her initial grief and when it turns out that his owner is a gorgeous alien rockstar from the other end of the galaxy, life will never be the same for her again.
If I had to sum up "Intwine" in five words I'd say it's Edward and Bella gone Sci-Fi ^^ Kudos to Christina Moss for thinking up such a lovely tale of romance and adventure, I enjoyed myself immensely and am curious to read how the saga around Julie and Seth continues.
I was completely hooked on this book. What a great love, adventure, sci-fi story set in modern day Burbank, CA and across the galaxy. I read a review in the LA Times that said "Intwine" is like Twilight with Aliens! I'm so glad I read it and I'm looking forward to the rest of the sequels. Lot of good life lessons in this book to. Lot of scenes that make you feel very warm, happy and in love amidst all the adventure.
When an ordinary girl from Burbank falls for a royally self-confident lad from Kent, a mutual infatuation begins. From hiking trails, bike rides, and beach trips to Malibu, this young couple quickly experiences many memories and moments of witty banter (over their shared love of music, art, and squashing humanitarian injustices).
Buddhist temples lit by candlelight set the scene for chanting monks and rowdy monkeys, but the child traffickers lurking deep within the Sri Lankan jungles are no match for laser guns and faithful canines.
A therapeutic session with the “virtual” Doc Merfee soothes the soul, but nothing compares to the holographic grids aboard the royal starship, illuminated by the power of incandescence! Royal etiquette lessons do little to fully prepare Julie for floating baby carriages and a limousine hovercraft, but some surprises are more than welcome!
Tentacled fish-men, giant red ant people, and sensual alien perverts border on provoking some interplanetary incidents at the Milky Way Arts Festival, but Seth keeps (most of) the instigators in line; it’s the jealous females who prove significantly harder to tame.
Cheating boyfriends, parental supervision, annoying siblings, insecurities, rock stars, paparazzi, and frivolous shopping sprees keep the entitled-teen angst balanced but relevant. The writing style effectively engages the target audience, and I think YA readers everywhere will enjoy the beginning of this space saga! There’s never a dull moment with telekinetic tendencies and intergalactic space travel.
INTWINE is a Young Adult, Sci-Fi Romance novel. The thing is, I'm not a young adult and the genres of Sci-Fi and Romance are among my least favorite.
Despite all that, this story and Moss's writing just grabbed me. Julie (Juliette), Seth, Matt, Remy (love Remy!),Uncle Marcus, and all the peripheral characters became so real, like we were all friends. (Well, maybe not Marty -- he's a jerk.) What delightful worlds (yes, worlds, as in plural) Moss created!
Intwine is an easy read -- the narrative just flows and flows and flows. It could be a quick read as well but I suspect many will slow down so as to savor the writing, as I did.
Hats off to Moss! I am so, so looking forward to the sequels.
Ok. Special powers. True love. Scary adventures. Some interesting twists on “common” phrases. History tie in. Royalty and rock stars. While the special powers angle is not a real draw for me it was not overplayed and the dna issue is something of a cliffhanger but also not a deal breaker. Not as compelling as some stories but definitely enough to warrant a solid “more” rating.
I am a serious SiFi reader but tend to shy away from romance novels. I really enjoyed the science in the book which was nicely understandable and the romance parts were both clean and fun. Loved the characters and found it very entertaining. I'm going on to Insight, the next book in the series.
I loved this book! My junior high/high school self would have loved it even more!
If your are worried about sex this is mildly PG. But I think sometimes that the worst thing a person should worry about is killing. That is in the book. For good and bad reasons. Why is that allowed when expressions of love are not? Sorry, that is something I think about a lot. In this case there are war orphans that are kidnapped and the kidnappers are vaporized. Maybe that is a spoiler, but I think a person should know ahead that this is in the book. But it is minor in comparison to the fun and adventure the main character, Juliette, finds herself in all because of a dog.
There is sci-fi. Good old fashioned space travel and aliens! There is travel about the Earth to England and Sri Lanka. And for me one of the best parts was that it takes place in mostly in Burbank, CA and the beaches surrounding L. A.
This is a present day story with cell-phones and text messages and lap-tops. The only thing that is unbelievable is how lax the parents of this girl are. They go globe trotting and leave this girl to her own devices. The daughter's judgment isn't always sound, she is a teen, after all. But the best stories come about because the parents are put on the back burner or absent. And so it is here. What I did like was how Juliette was able to talk her way through the troubles, taking her time and attempting to be reasonable, even when she got herself into the trouble, she found her way out.
I thought this was a delightfully fun Science Fiction novel for Young Adults. I am a mature reader and I got caught up in the adventure, also, quite easily. The narrative flowed well, the dialogue was believable, and the premise engaging.
Juliette is a young woman just on the verge of womanhood; definitely ready to leave the nest. Luckily Seth, is an honorable man and quite protective of his younger brother Matt, of Juliette and of his dog, Remy. Some of the most enjoyable scenes take place when the four of them are together. There is a wonderful, hard to quantify, dynamic between all the major characters that pulled me in and kept me entertained.
As an adult with children of my own, I was a little dismayed at the lies and subterfuge that took place over the summer. Juliette had minimal supervision. Once I was able to let go of some of my objections concerning the lackadaisical parenting I was able to get into the story and better appreciate Juliette’s quandary and situation.
This is the first book in a series. The second and third books are also available.
Juliet has not had a great start to her summer when she finds Remy the dog or maybe he finds her. Anyway Remy's owner is Seth a good looking young man from Kent. Julie soon finds her self in love with Seth a boy she learns is from another planet. The adventures are fun and keep the book moving. This is a great YA book. From the first pages I was drawn in. It was so nice reading a book that made you feel good and had adventure in it too. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was great fun, I really enjoyed the every day girl and the more realistic way she finds out that the guy who seems to magnetically draw her to him. I hate it when the characters reaction to things are totally wrong, this seems much more realistic and I enjoy that. There are some fun adventures but to tell you about them would spoil some other fun in the book so you have to read it yourself.
I started to put this book down several times before I was half way into it. It was slow and I had trouble staying with it, but there was enough there I didn't and I'm glad I didn't. The second half the book held my interest. Not only was the action good, but the little things like aliens from a plant way more advanced then us discusing whichSar Wars movie was the best.
This book was nothing like I expected it to be. I normally avoid this genre, but I got totally drawn into the book. I wrote a brief impression of this book at onlinebook.org with the First Ten Program. I plan to reread this book and write an additional review here as well as on Amazon when I have restarted the series.
This is about a young high school girl who falls in love. Problem is he is an alien. She does not know that right off. But when she does find out, well her life getting very interesting. Wonderful. YA Sci-Fi romance.
Fast-paced and interesting, I read this book under 24 hours from cover to cover, which I don't normally do. The author has created real characters who experience out-of-this-world realities, but they work. It was easy to care about the main character's dilemmas.
For a young adult book i found it really good. totally draws you into the story and makes you want to learn more. I find both of the main characters really sweet.
