Chronobiology is the study of timely patterns and functions of living things. One woman mentioned in the book, Stefania Follini, spent 130 days, alone, in a cave in New Mexico to study the affects of isolation on human chronobiology. As time went on, she lost track of time and lived on 44-hour days. A journalist involved with the experiment interviewed her over the computer. The interview lasted seven and a half hours, but Stefania thought it lasted only one hour. When she eventually left the cave, four months had passed, but she thought only two months had gone by. This experiment showed the importance of light on the chronobiology of humans. Orlock's book goes in depth about the basics of chronobiology. It shows its role in sleep, sex, and other functions of the human body. Problems concerning chronobiology are addressed in the book, such as jet lag, night shifts at jobs, and sleeping habits. As I was looking for a book to help me with a research project, this book caught my eye in my school's library. I had never heard of chronobiology before and I wanted to learn more. I have learned a great amount about the importance of chronobiology. It has helped me obtain healthier sleeping habits. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about the secrets of the human body. Know Your Body Clock is an educational read that is interesting enough to keep readers intrigued.
