Dry sense of humor

I am usually a really serious person so the joking between D and Ricky really tickled me. The only negative I have about this book is the reference to Chicago’s Harold Washington. I’m not from Chicago so I had to google him to find out about the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.

Otherwise, great job. I will be picking up the next book in the series.

Before you go further to read this partial review, take note that if you don't like revelations of events that happened in books like these, I highly suggest that you quit reading my review. Right now!, because I have to mention several parts I got to while riding the train. Maybe, just maybe, I'm getting a little bit overly excited that I have not read urban books like this one in the past eights that when I picked this one up about five weeks ago, I couldn't stop reading it. The characters and other factors drew me to find out what was going to happen next. However, I am very disappointed that Daphne and her son was murdered. Another part that disturbed me is that Regina was upset when she found out David and Regina was dating. Oh, forgot, this is just a book.
Anyway, I felt nothing but love for David and Daphne's relationship, even though I believe its not alright to date a best friend's husband. Here, I go again. this IS JUST A BOOK!
I can't wait until I finish it. I'm so excited to find out what happens in the end.
No! I'm not going to go to the last chapters to fin out. I feel like I can't miss one a written word.

Overly excited! Malikah 11/7/13

Loved the story! I had to over look the poor editing a lot. The story and characters make up for the poor editing of the book. I could relate and understand many of the characters. The book is movie material. I enjoyed the sound track of “Howlin Wolf” and “Buddy Guy”. Lots of interesting ideas in this book.

I hope to enjoy much more content from this author!

There are parts of this book that are strong, but there are some points that didn't quite do it for me too.

Much of the book is told is a narrative style that keeps the reader reading.

And the reflections on being Black and how the main characters are dealing with being Black in lives that are changing is interesting and insightful.

For me the book lost some energy after Daphne and her son were killed. The story shifts from how David Price dealt with Daphne and her drama to dealing with Ricky. This is was my first David Price book, so maybe I would have got the Ricky character better if I read the earlier book(s), but Ricky didn't do much for me.

And the resolution of the primary plot didn't satisfy me. It seems like the various co-conspirators in various criminal enterprises would have to work together on some enterprises while hating the people they work with enough to kill them at some later date.

This book was a very good read. I enjoyed the different aspect of this story. You didn't know which direction the story was going to take however it kept you intrigued enough to finish it. The typesetting was good and there were no grammatical errors in the story. You are able to follow all the characters in the story. It is a quick read and definitely a page turner. This was my first time reading anything from this author and I will be reading more of his work.
