It’s a useful guide because it mentions all of the places that are worth visiting in NYC, even those off the beaten track. However, the author mentions places, museums and paintings that do not have a matching photograph or picture to go with them. I found that confusing. I also missed historical details. There are minor spelling mistakes.

This is the guidebook I bought when I realized I'd be spending a year in NYC. It served me well. It suggested where to start, what I must see. Spreading the things it had for "a perfect 3 days in New York City" over 3 weekends made it more fun. I used it to find the "top 10" museums, parks, etc. It became the first tool for making lists of what I wanted to experience in New York City. I particularly liked its short walks around Manhattan neighborhoods to orient myself.

Eventually I turned to other more specialized guidebooks as I explored the city and its boroughs. But it was a great start. It's suggestions were good, and easy to understand, presented in simple lists with great pictures and guides. And when I looked at it again at the end of my year, I found I had covered a lot of its suggestions and agreed with them

I consider this to be the best travel book for NYC and its boroughs for several reasons. (1) Best short walking tours, ever, with clear maps, for everywhere in the city. (2) Compact size easy for travel, and (3) brief but highly selective wording used for each attraction, intended to help you whether to make it a keeper or to throw it off your visit list. This helps save time, when you are in the city. I use this book with Google maps, and hop from little walking tour to little walker tour using the city bus or subway. Great job, Eleanor Berman.

This pocket travel guide for New York City will lead to attractions in the city from unearthing archaeological treasures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to biking through Central Park to discovering the city's hottest neighborhoods on walking tours.

Information on the boroughs with suggested highlights for Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, and Upper Manhattan.

I had an older edition but it still helped me with general thoughts on the sites.

Get the latest edition for information on hotels, shopping, bars, or restaurants.

Inaccurate on prices but good overview of things if you're short of time and don't want to waste time. The info on TKTS, the library, and the Staten Island Ferry were things I didn't find anywhere else.

I'm reading this book in preparation for my upcoming trip to the Big Apple... What I like about this travel guide is that it groups the top attraction by the different areas in New York, such as Lower Manhattan, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Midtown and it lists all the top 10 attractions in that area. This makes it easy for me to plan my trip.

I can build my itinerary by area, so I can maximize the use of my time in New York.

This guide also contains useful general tips, like shopping tips (my favorite.. yay), how to get around in New York, and also things to avoid in New York, and there is also some tips for New York on a budget...

Reading this travel guide will definitely help guide me through the Big Apple..

I got this book for Christmas because I was going to New York in April. I've been to New York before, and I think this book might be better suited to a first time traveler. That said the guidebook format is easy to use - it's really just a top 10 of some of the most popular sites listed under different categories (best of Midtown, best of Greenwich Village, best museums, etc). The book is pretty small and easy to bring with you on a trip. I also liked that it came with a little foldout map, including one of the subway.

These Top 10 travel guides are a great snapshot for big cities you're traveling to for a limited time. They list the top 10 sites and attractions for the whole city, then give listings of sites, attractions and restaurants by neighborhood. We've got just a couple of days coming up in New York, and this was a great way to get an idea of things to see without being totally overwhelmed. Lots of great photos and easily digestible pieces of information.

For a pocket guide there is a lot packed into it. The content is well thought out and easy to go back to. As Manhattan is best explored by district I thought the Around Town is especially useful with a map and description for each site of interest it is a good way of getting your bearings and to prioritise which areas to visit.

The pull out map in the back of this guide went with us everywhere and was our main reference to get around - brilliant! That and a metro ticket and we were set!

Great ideas within the book, plenty of info.

It's not "Lonely Planet", but it does act as a useful compliment to that heavier work. While it lacks in major depth & detail, it certainly does a good job at being concise and quick when the momemnt calls for it.

Great introduction to points of interest in the city. I love the maps and photos. Yes, I’m going to be that “old” lady who studies hard copy maps. It will be a great souvenir after our trip later this summer.

The little pocket map in the back of the book is well worth the price of this book. The map was very handy and got us all over New York, both on foot and on the subway.
