My name is Jaye Marie, the 'oily rag' and one half of the establishment that is https://jenanita01.com.

I came to writing rather late but have always loved books. I think I trained to be a writer due to so many years of transcribing and editing my sister, Anita Dawes's books.

When I was growing up, I wanted to be so many things, a doctor, a pianist, or an artist. In all my 75 years, I have had so many jobs and hobbies that my family call me Worzel Gummidge, convinced I have a selection of different heads in a cupboard somewhere!
I love to make things, whether it is something to wear, eat or simply enjoy looking at. These days however, time is becoming my enemy, but I can still stretch it a bit when I need to!

I enjoy reading many different genres, so was very surprised to discover a passion for writing detective thrillers. Four of them to date, with more to follow I'm sure.
I also enjoy running our website/blog, Books & Bonsai, and love meeting all the wonderful people who drop in to say hello!

The book begins with the mysterious murder of DI David Snow's colleague, mild-mannered Detective Jim Harris, killed by a strange injury to the head. Snow is determined to find his friend's killer, and grudgingly accepts the help of Jim's replacement, the enigmatic Ruth Winton, who has her own reasons for wanting to work with Snow. Ruth seems efficient at problem-solving, but Snow dislikes 'Ruthless Winton' for reasons he cannot seem to put a finger on.

Meanwhile, other deaths are occurring that Snow realises might be connected to his friend's murder. Snow must work fast to catch the killer (or killers) before they strike again.

This book kept me turning the pages to the end, and I was interested enough to find out who had killed Jim Harris. All the characters were nicely fleshed out too, and the tension built as I read on. There were some minor editing errors however, and so I cannot give it a full 5 stars, but am happy to give the book 4.5 stars for an entertaining read.

DI Snow is ready for retirement until his partner Detective Jim Harris is murdered. This single event sets into motion the department’s hunt for Jim’s killer. When Jim’s replacement, Ruth Winton, shows up, Snow takes an instant dislike to the woman. She seems competent, but there is something about her that rubs Snow the wrong way.

When more bodies start piling up with the same wounds that Jim received, Snow considers the murders are all connected. He knows time is running out to catch the killers, but he has a problem. His health has taken a turn for the worse. If he’s too ill to find the killer, who will?

Leave it to me to start a series with the third book! However, I found “CrossFire” to be a standalone book. There are references to DI David Snow’s other cases, but nothing I couldn’t follow.

The book reminds me of some of the British mysteries I watch on Amazon Prime. As the suspense built, I kept turning pages, eager to find out what happened next. The characters are interesting, with Snow taking on the characteristics of the troubled detective. I found him to be a likable guy. There is great detail paid to the backstory of the murderer, which helped to propel the story forward.

If you like psychological mysteries, this was a good read. I’m excited to read some of this author’s other mysteries. Perhaps I should start with the first book in the series!

Crossfire by Jaye Marie is book three in the mystery thriller Lives series. It is standalone, though there are multiple references to past incidents that involved DI David Snow.

As Snow approaches retirement, his partner is killed. Trying to make sense of the murder, Snow must match wits with the killer. Will he survive the crossfire?

The story at times is repetitive but the pace is steady. Character development is sufficient to build tension and give insights into the killer’s mind. It is a quick read, but not a page-turner.

If you like psychological mysteries, Crossfire by Jaye Marie is an entertaining read.

I thought that this was a good read. Even though I could see what is going on from the start, the story is well told and drew me in. The pacing is good.

I love writing about David Snow! Born from my love of the Jesse Stone stories, staring Tom Selleck, I decided to create my own version. CrossFire is the third book in the series and number four is under way... I wonder what he will get up to next?
