41 books330 followersI live only a few miles from a flourishing Amish community and am blessed to count many Old Order Amish as friends. Love Finds You In Sugarcreek, Ohio is a natural outgrowth of my on-going fascination with these valiant, flawed people who struggle to live their lives according to their interpretation of the Bible. Once, when I apologized for asking so many questions while researching this book, an Amish father told me that I could ask anything I wanted. “Nothing is forbidden,” he said. He told me that he wanted my book to be accurate. I was thrilled when his family read it and gave me their enthusiastic nod of approval.
Our family, however, also lived for many years in Michigan. My father, a sawyer, told me stories he had heard from old timber men who had cut the fabled giant pine in the Saginaw Valley. Visiting museums and reading about the years directly after the Civil War, when Michigan became the lumber capitol of the world, became a hobby. I was delighted when Revell Publishing allowed me to revisit that era by writing The Measure Of Katie Calloway.
There are many other books on their way—both Amish and historical. Please know that each one is a labor of love from me to you.

The Sugar Haus Inn

THE SUGAR HAUS INN is the first book in the Love's Journey in Sugarcreek series. It is not your typical Amish story and I loved every minute of it. Serena B Miller is an awesome writer and the way she has the Amish characters interacting with the English characters is so perfect. I was instantly invested in all of the people in THE SUGAR HOUSE INN and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. My emotions were on an up and down roller coaster ride and I felt an instant connection to them all.
Rachel Troyer is a police officer and while she isn't Amish, her family is. She is currently trying to get her three Amish aunts to close down their bed and breakfast Inn in Sugarcreek. The aunts finally agree with the stipulation that if anyone strangers show up who need help, they will take them in and provide for them. Well, you know what happens right? Here comes Joe and his young son, Bobby who have no money, no home, and a broken down truck. THE SUGAR HOUSE INN gives Joe a place to hide while he tries to figure out what to do with his life.
Joe has lots of secrets and Rachel is very weary of him and him staying with her elderly aunts.
All Joe wants to do is protect his son and give him the life he deserves. His mother has been murdered and the killer is still out there. That is enough to drive Rachel to find out all she can about Joe. She doesn't trust him even though he has been nothing but be helpful where her aunts are concerned. They hire him as their handyman for the inn and Rachel spends many sleepless nights at the inn watching him very carefully. There are so many twists and turns in THE SUGAR HAUS INN that once I started I had a very hard time putting it down. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Serena throws in another twist and I know I'm wrong! I love when an author does that.
The suspense in THE SUGAR HAUS INN is not typical of what you find in Amish fiction. I can not wait to continue this series. I don't think I've ever read a Serena B Miller book before but this one will not be the last. Oh, this book was also made into a movie so now I'm off to see if I can find it. I bet it will be like watching a Criminal Minds episode that takes place in Amish Country.

This book was formerly sold as Love Finds You in Sugar Creek Ohio. It is a very well written full length novel that captured this reader from page one. There where many twist and turns in the story which includes a murder mystery. I was definitely on the edge of my seat a time or two. I thought the plot was different than most Amish books which made it unique. I loved the characters who quickly became my friends. This is book one to the authors Love's Journey in Sugar Creek series.
Rachel Troyer, a police officer at Sugar Creek Ohio, would love to see her three Amish Aunts close the Sugar Haus Inn and retire from all the hard work involved in running it. They were up in age and deserved to take life easier. Rachel offers to give her Aunts the money her mother's trust fund left to her, in order to allow her Aunts to retire. They reluctantly agree to this arrangement but they refuse to turn a needy person away from their door. After all who knows if that needy person could be an angel they might be helping.

I enjoyed getting to know Rachel, her aunts, and others from the community of Sugarcreek. Eli was one of my favorites, it was so funny how the elderly Amish man would tease Joe and get such a kick out of his reactions. There was plenty going on in the plot with Joe's secrets and worries, Rachel's job on the police force, her attempts to rein in her aunts, their refusal to settle down into retirement, a lost and pregnant teenager, and a few more exciting things that I don't want to give away. The way that Joe and Rachel handle each obstacle shows their compassion, strength, and kindness. They notice these qualities in each other as they grow closer and their sweet romance develops naturally. The author does a good job incorporating details about Amish life and even though I've read quite a bit in this genre, I ended up learning some new things!

Okay, I really enjoyed this novel! It was really good. There was a great amount of Spiritual Content, but also a mystery with suspense and adds in a sweet romance—with a police officer with Amish roots. Very interesting. I definitely enjoyed “Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio”. After reading this novel, I watched the movie and was also highly impressed with that movie. It has to be the best book-to-movie adaption I’ve ever seen.
I loved all the Aunts, but sweet Anna was my favorite and I loved seeing her POV in the epilogue. The author is currently working on a sequel and I look forward to learning more about it! :)

This book has the perfect blend of mystery, drama, humour and romance and Miller has her pacing down pat. She weaves a tight plot out of a multitude of random story threads that all knot together for a surprising, nail-biting and oft times hilarious conclusion.
I loved the aunts!!!! Such a wonderful venue for comedy and wisdom! And a great foil for their earnest young niece who thinks she has to control them for their own good. The generation gap -- and in some ways cultural cap -- is alive and well in Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Rachel is such a contradiction at times -- struggling to discover who she really is and what she wants out of life. Her sense of family, her ethics and honour are both admirable and frustrating...and totally clash with poor Joe and the secret he is trying to keep hidden. What a wonderful, complicated starting point for their romance. There is so much to keep them apart and yet they can't help but be drawn to each other.
And speaking of Joe...sigh followed by a swoon...he makes a very attractive...and vulnerable...hero. Caught in mid-flight, his only desire is to protect his young son but he finds himself wrapped up in a mystery and forced to face a painful past. And he's often at odds with Rachel...but then there are the times when they mesh and sparks fly!
This is a fantastic 'lose yourself in another world' kind of read.

This was one of the best Love Finds You books that I have read. Don't be fooled by the cover; although the book is centered around three Amish aunts of the heroine, it is not an "Amish" book. It's a combination of both Amish and English.
Joe, a baseball superstar, and his son take refuge in an Amish community. Rachel, whose father was raised Amish, was raised by her three Amish aunts. Although, Rachel did not chose the Amish life, she is respectful of it, and very protective of her aunts. When Joe and his son show up, Rachel is very suspicious of him and is determined to run him out of town.
The book is full of forgiveness, love, hope, romance and mystery. There's even a few, didn't see that coming moments. After reading the book, it's easy to see why they are making it into a movie. Serena B Miller is fast becoming a favorite of mine.

LOVE IT!!! I never really was a fan of the Love Finds You series, but when I saw Serena B. Miller was the author of this one I HAD to give it a shot! I was NOT disappointed! I absolutely loved Serena's Under a Blackberry Moon, so much so that I jump at the chance to read anything written by her! From the beginning I was intrigued and Serena has this amazing way of writing that keeps me laughing and interested all the way through. I love her God given gift of stringing words together in such an inexplicably awesome way! Whenever there is a moment where the pace begins to slow she throws in another twist that kicks it back up into full gear! And the way she writes about a little kid is excellent! Along with the secrets that unravel in this story a murder mystery is revealed. I always love all of Serena's characters and this is probably some of my all time favorites. This is the the first of her Amish books I've read, and I absolutely love how she portrays these amazing people. The whole concept of an Englischer with Amish relatives is fascinating to me, and I haven't read many books that explore this scenario. I truly fell in love with Joe, Rachael, and the many other characters that make up this awesome story! I could read this again and again and it has made me re-think giving the Love finds you Series, as a whole, another chance...Maybe. I don't really think there can be a better one than this though. I can not wait for another opportunity to read more from Serena who is fastly becoming one of my all time favorite authors!!! Love, mystery, secrets, fascinating back stories, beauty, pain, healing, and SO much more awaits you in Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio. A MUST READ and one of my Favorite Books list picks!!!

I didn’t connect with Rachel at all. I didn’t see anything loveable about her. And I didn’t understand Joe. Some of his decisions seemed plain stupid and weren’t explained adequately enough. Like, when his wallet was stolen—why didn’t he contact his bank and credit card companies? He could have done that much without revealing his location. My favorite character in the book was Eli, Rachel’s elderly uncle who lived on a neighboring farm. He was a dear.
That said, LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUGARCREEK, OHIO is a sweet romance set in Ohio’s Amish country. The main characters are not Amish, so if you don’t like Amish fiction, you shouldn’t shy away from this book. There is also a bit of mystery and suspense included in the pages of this book. $12.99. 350 pages.

Like, when his wallet was stolen—why didn’t he contact his bank and credit card companies? He could have done that much without revealing his location. My favorite character in the book was Eli, Rachel’s elderly uncle who lived on a neighboring farm. He was a dear.
That said, LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUGARCREEK, OHIO is a sweet romance set in Ohio’s Amish country. The main characters are not Amish, so if you don’t like Amish fiction, you shouldn’t shy away from this book. There is also a bit of mystery and suspense included in the pages of this book. $12.99. 350 pages.

This is a wonderfully written book. I can see why it was made into a movie.
The story touches on so many aspects that you do not generally see in an Amish fiction book and, in my opinion, it's beautifully done.
Serena B. Miller is an exceptional writer and she blends the Amish characters with the English characters seamlessly. It is clear she is quite knowledgeable about her subjects and you feel an instant connection with them.
The story is engaging and intriguing - one that is difficult to put down.
I would love to say I read it in one sitting, that's what I really wanted to do, but I wasn't able to carve out the time. However, I did come back to it every spare second I had.
Now I can't wait to see the movie.
I'm excited to see if the film-makers realize what a gem there already was within the pages or if they try to "Hollywood-ize" the story. Hopefully, since it's being made by Mission Pictures International, they will hold tight to the wonderful message Serena has already written about the healing power of God's Love.

I enjoyed the aunts in this book very much. I just wanted to pull up a chair and chat; very endearing. The part I did not care for was Rachel. I just happen not to like a book that is trying to center around Amish and English people both. I like to read Amish mostly and I want the characters in the books to all be Amish. I just think it balances better.

What an awesome group of characters! I loved their quirky personalities but I'm not sure who I liked the best -- Eli or Bertha. Not only did I love the story but how Amish life was explained. I knew all along who would find love, but I didn't know who done it.

Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio is one is a rich tale of love, loss, pain, and promise captured in well known Sugarcreek, Ohio. This Swiss community didn’t have a lot of crime but Rachel Troyer was comfortable being a police officer their. Caring for her three elderly aunts who had ran an inn provided more than she bargained for when they entertained an “angel” who was down on his luck and had an adorable son. The vivid descriptive flow of words along action and conversations kept the pages turning. When the truth is uncovered who Joe Matthews really was and being exposed by an eccentric housekeeper/business manager for his deceased spouse drama happened faster than the annual celebration held in Sugarcreek. This is a beautiful love story filled with God’s undying love, mercy and grace for each one. It’s nice to know this has tale has been made into a movie.
Even though this book was published in 2010 by Guideposts as part of the Love Finds You in series, it’s a book that I highly recommend to readers. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me interested through the whole.Its about Police Woman Rachel Troyer and her three elderly aunts.The 3 aunts run a bed and breakfast but she talks them in to closing it and they agree unless a stranger shows up in need.And of course ones shows with with his little boy and Rachel is not sure what to think about him.It keeps you wondering what is going to happen next through the whole book.

This was another one of my vacation reads, along with The Fault in Our Stars. One that I'd heard about and just wanted to read. There were so many things that drew me to this book.
1. It was written by a woman who lives in southeast, Ohio - not too far from where I grew up
2. It is set in Sugarcreek, Ohio - not too far from some of my family members. We have spent quite a few weekends in the Sugarcreek area, eating and shopping. I feel like I have a bit of a connection to the area.
3. It's set in Amish country. I love Amish country and as my faith grows, so foes my interest in religious based books, especially in Amish communities. I love learning about their culture.
4. The book was made into a movie that recently aired on the UPTV channel. I have it DVR'd at my mom's house and cousin's house so I can sit down and watch it at some point.
Obviously I had high hopes for this book before I even started it. And the book lived up to my high hopes, and beyond. There are so many things I loved about it. It all starts with Joe's little boy. I am a sucker for little kids in books. They always bring so much joy and honesty to the table. I also love the relationship that grows between Rachel and Joe. And then there's the deep faith of the Amish community. The faith is really deep seated in the community, and in this book. There are so many acts that the Amish do that really open your eyes to what you can do to be a better person.
But the thing that I loved most about this book was how much I learned about the Amish. We have Amish in our neck of the woods, and my aunt lives in a pretty big Amish community, so we feel like we are pretty well versed in their culture. Of course I made a list to share with my family members, and you. Let's see if I can teach you some of the things I learned:
1. The Amish only go to church every other Sunday. On the Sunday's they don't go to church, they spend the day visiting family and resting.
2. The Amish only do a collection twice a year - once at communion, the other at the foot washing - They use this money to give to a community member in need.
3. Homes are built big enough so that church services can be held in the home. Once the group gets larger than 200 people, they split off and go to another home.
4. The Amish community is currently doubling in size every 20 years.
5. The one that I was most interested in because it's one that comes up quite often: Amish pay all taxes except Social Security. But, that's not in every case. Amish that are employed by non-Amish businesses have to pay the tax. And Amish that employ non-Amish or youth that haven't been baptized in the Amish community, also have to pay the tax.
I really love that Miller spent so much time with the Amish community and really did her research into this book. I will definitely be looking into more of her books in the future!!! I give Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio 5 out of 5 bookmarks.

Rachel Troyer is a policewoman who lives in the Englisch world but who also has Amish roots. She has three Amish aunts, Bertha, Lydia and Anna, that she longs to protect and take care of but lately she feels as if she is fighting a losing battle. Her aunts own and operate the Sugar Haus Inn but with their advanced age Rachel wants them to retire. Bertha finds this extremely hard and refuses to turn anyone away because she lives by Hebrews 13:2 which says that we should entertain strangers because we might be entertaining angels unawares. And she refuses to turn away one of God's angels. When Joe Matthews and his little boy show up on their doorstep, they provide them food and shelter in exchange for Joe working around their farm. Rachel, however, has no qualms about making it plain that she is keeping an eye on him. She knows he is running from something and she won't rest until she finds out what haunts his past. But, Joe only wants to live a quite life that allows Bobby to be the little boy he is. Can they start fresh in this quite little community? And, can both Joe and Rachel keep their hearts out of the equation?
While this book is considered Amish fiction it's not strictly about the Amish. Most stories about the Amish has an Englischer or two sprinkle into the mix. This story, however, is a full blown mixture of the two. The two main characters are Englishers, along with several other characters, and there are only four Amish characters in total--Rachel's three aunts and their cousin, Eli. Still this book "feels" Amish. It's amazing to me how the two halves can be blended as a whole so seamlessly but Mrs. Miller manages to do just that. Neither side of the story overtakes the other and it makes for one complete, compelling storyline. It contains a beautiful, budding romance and just a tad bit of mystery. I loved it so much I didn't want to put it down. I had to see how it ended and I wasn't disappointed. One of the things that I felt really added to the story was Anna's character. She was fifty-three-years-old and had Down Syndrome. Although I loved all of the characters, she was my favorite. She possessed a gentle, child-like spirit but she was also a very wise woman. I loved that she always snuck up behind people and said "Boo!" while waiting for their frightened reaction.
Anna gently touched Rachel's face. In one of her surprisingly insightful moments, she gazed at her with understanding and sympathy. "You are 'fraid for us?"
A lump rose in Rachel's throat. "Very afraid."
"'Cause you leeva us?" Anna said.
"Yes, because I love you."
That scene really tugged at my heart strings. But that's not the only part of the book that made me stop and gather my emotions. It's full of smiles and laughter, heartwarming moments and tragedy. The characters are the kind that you will love to revisit and long to read more about and the love of the community really comes through on every page. I am so glad I read this book. Serena B. Miller is a new author for me but not after reading this book. It was an excellent start to a beautiful new friendship. One I am looking forward to exploring whole-heartedly. I highly recommend this book, not only to Amish fiction fans, but to fans of contemporary romance as well!

What happens when Criminal Minds falls into the land of the Amish living in Sugarcreek, Ohio? We have the makings of an exceptional novel in the Love Finds You Series, this time from best-selling author Serena B. Miller. Joe Matthews is tired of running and hiding with his young son, Bobby. Now that his truck has broken down in the small Amish community of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Joe just needs to find a way to make enough money to pay for the repairs to his truck and get back on the road. It would have not been an issue, had someone not stolen his wallet, along with all his credit cards and cash. There is no way he can call anyone right now to have those items replaced because then people would know where he is, and for now, that is not an option.
Police officer Rachel Troyer has always tried to maintain peace and order in their small Amish town, and now in the midst of the Swiss Festival, she knows tourists from all over will be descending on them for the next week and she can only hope nothing will go wrong this year. It's not the Amish she has to contend with or even the tourists but the Amish teens who are in their Rumspringa period of running around that has caused her concern. Not to mention her three aging aunts whom she has tried in vain to talk out of running their Sugar Haus Inn and take some time to retire. Love and Mystery in Sugarcreek
Rachel Troyer, lives in the middle of Sugarcreek, Ohio's Amish community. Although she is not Amish, her father was, before he chose to leave the Amish faith. After she was left orphaned when she was eleven years old, her three Amish aunts (Bertha, Lydia, and Anna) had taken her in and raised her. Now an adult, she is a police officer in the small town of Sugarcreek, and feels that it is her responsibility to take care of her elderly aunts. The problem is, they are not cooperating with her plan. They own and run a bed and breakfast style inn and they do not understand why Rachel insists they stop taking in guests.
After an accident leaves Aunt Bertha injured, Rachel insists no more guests, and they agree, but because they are strong believers in Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) -- Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. -- they insist that they will continue to provide shelter to those that they feel that the Lord has brought to their door.

Her investigation turns up nothing and as she spends time with him she discovers that she likes Joe and his son. When she finally figures out who Joe really is, she knows her world is going to be turned upside down, and to make matters worse she has fallen in love with Joe.
The book is full of forgiveness, love, hope, romance and mystery. There were even a few surprises thrown in. Now that I have finished reading the book, I really would like to see the movie.

MY VIEW:
The Love Finds You collection is not your usual Amish read. They are a little above the ordinary stories of Amish living. I love all Amish books, but I'd have to say this is at the tops. The author, Serena B. Miller has written a wonderful, heart warming novel.
The story's setting is in Sugarcreek, Ohio. The reader is taken on living with Rachel Troyer, who is part Amish. She is Sugarcreek's town cop and takes her job seriously. She has aunts that she watches over carefully. While things are going well for Rachel, the bottom fell out when she meets a sweet little boy, Bobby and his father Joe Matthews. To me the dad put things into perspective. We think of the Amish as not having the terrible things in their life as the ordinary person does. That is not true. They have the struggles and problems just like the rest of us.
Joe Matthews moves into Rachel aunt's daadi house even though Rachel was very apprehensive about him being around her aunts. He has such a mysterious past. Why is he so secretive about his past? The cop comes out in full force as she does some searching on the Internet.
There's so much that can be learned from this book. Learning to trust, being honest, learning to let the past in the past and above all trusting in God. The author did a wonderful job of combining the Englishers and Amish with friendship and learning to love. Little Bobby gave the story such love and the feeling that he would be a big part of bringing everyone together.
If you haven't read any of the Love Finds You novels, I would totally recommend that you start adding them as a collection for your Kindle or your book shelf. You will find a peace in your heart. The novel gives you the feeling that your have a home in the midst of the little town called Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Join the journey of Joe, Bobby, Rachel and the aunts as they go by their daily lives. You won't be sorry.

The Love Finds You collection is not your usual Amish read. They are a little above the ordinary stories of Amish living. I love all Amish books, but I'd have to say this is at the tops. The author, Serena B. Miller has written a wonderful, heart warming novel.
The story's setting is in Sugarcreek, Ohio. The reader is taken on living with Rachel Troyer, who is part Amish. She is Sugarcreek's town cop and takes her job seriously. She has aunts that she watches over carefully. While things are going well for Rachel, the bottom fell out when she meets a sweet little boy, Bobby and his father Joe Matthews. To me the dad put things into perspective. We think of the Amish as not having the terrible things in their life as the ordinary person does. That is not true. They have the struggles and problems just like the rest of us.
Joe Matthews moves into Rachel aunt's daadi house even though Rachel was very apprehensive about him being around her aunts. He has such a mysterious past. Why is he so secretive about his past? The cop comes out in full force as she does some searching on the Internet.
There's so much that can be learned from this book. Learning to trust, being honest, learning to let the past in the past and above all trusting in God. The author did a wonderful job of combining the Englishers and Amish with friendship and learning to love. Little Bobby gave the story such love and the feeling that he would be a big part of bringing everyone together.
If you haven't read any of the Love Finds You novels, I would totally recommend that you start adding them as a collection for your Kindle or your book shelf. You will find a peace in your heart. The novel gives you the feeling that your have a home in the midst of the little town called Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Join the journey of Joe, Bobby, Rachel and the aunts as they go by their daily lives. You won't be sorry.

Rachel Troyer a police officer tries to convince her aunts Bertha, Lydia and Anna to stop taking in guests at their inn, Sugar Haus. She feels they need to retire since they have gotten older, and cannot handle the upkeep any longer.
Joe Matthews has left Los Angeles with his son Bobby, because he wants to escape the media sensation surrounding the murder of his wife Grace, who was an actor. He wants to find a quiet place for him and his son to live in peace. Joe did not plan to stop in Sugarcreek, Ohio, but had no choice since his truck broke down and needed repair. He ends up staying at the Sugar Haus Inn for a few days and is not that impressed with the Amish way of life.
Being a cop, Rachel immediately becomes suspicious of Joe, thinking he has something to hide or is hiding from someone. One thing that sends a red flag is Joe looks disheveled with his long hair and unshaven beard. She decides it is a good idea to stay at the inn with her aunts to keep an eye on Joe until he leaves. Rachel runs an identification check on Joe and finds no information. With the help of an assistant in the office, she finds Joe’s true identity. He and Bobby have been missing for months and their location is exposed, forcing Joe to run away again.
After receiving a threatening call to leave Joe alone, Rachel must now decide whether to help Joe run or convince him to stay in Sugarcreek and face the media. The questions in her mind are did Joe kill his wife? Should I help him to escape?
Serena B. Miller’s novel is a story of love, loss, and grievance. It moves from a father's love for his son to a murder mystery. The pace is steady and an easy read. The characters are likeable and the story line is serious, yet humorous in parts. The chapters describing Joe’s experience working in the Amish community could have been condensed through editing. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I recommend to romance and mystery novel lovers.

Let me start off by saying that I sincerely hope that Ms. Miller has a sequel to this story cooking in the pipes somewhere. This story is absolutely terrific! Sugarcreek, Ohio seems like a really nice place to hang out in with the people to meet and the places to see. Rachel Troyer is the kind of cop you always want around and to be friends with. Joe Matthews is a mystery and Rachel doesn’t trust him. Then there is a murder and a killer to catch. On top of that there is the romance. “Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio” is great fun to read. Ms. Miller has a great way of telling the story and moving it along at a nice pace. Her characters are wonderful and she give them life and unique voices. All this and Sugarcreek, Ohio also. A really enjoyable read.

A sweet, perfect countryside makes up the beauty of Sugarcreek, Ohio, never in your wildest dreams would you expect the Amish people of that area to live anywhere else, but live there they do. With its simplicity and goodness an abundance of crops and neatly kept, family run factories there is no wonder that you might see a buggy clip clopping down the road. The perfect place for Rachel Troyers, aunts to live and grow old. She was so very grateful to God for them and their influence in her life. So much so that she wants them to sell the inn and grow old gracefully.
But in spit of all of that and all Rachel has going on in her life, a mystery man comes into town and his first stop is her aunts' inn. Rachel is not very trusting of this mystery man--Joe Matthews, she just knows he has a secret to tell. For a story full of mystery, intrigue, and mild romance, this is the book for you!

Rachel Troyer, lives in the middle of Amish country. She is not Amish, but is related to many of the Amish, her father having left the faith. After she orphaned at eleven years old, three of her Amish aunts had raised her. Now grown and a police officer in the small town of Sugarcreek Ohio, , Rachel's goal is to take care of her elderly aunts. Problem is, they are not cooperating with her plan. They run an Inn, bed and breakfast style place and do not understand why Rachel insists they stop taking in guests.
After an accident leaves Aunt Bertha injured, Rachel insists no more guests, and they agree with the provision that they are allowed to help anyone they feel they need to help. They are strong believers in the verse about helping "angels" unaware.
Enter the angels, well not literal angels but a young man and his little boy, who desperately seem to need the help of the aunts. They allow him to stay in one of the cabins, much to Rachel's disapproval, and he makes himself of so much use, they ask him to stay on and work for them.
Rachel is upset, something is not right with this man, and she intends to get to the bottom of it. Her investigation turns up nothing and at the urging of others she finds herself liking "Joe" and his son Bobby. When she finally figures out who Joe really is, she knows her world is going to be turned upside down, and to make matters worse she has fallen hard for Joe.
This was one of my absolute favorite books I have ever read. I love the Love Finds You series and to combine it with an Amish story was like the frosting on a cake. Delicious!! 347 pages $12.99 US 5 stars.

Serena Miller totally captures the essence of Sugarcreek, Ohio, and unleashes it on every page of this riveting romance. Never will you confuse Sugarcreek with Lancaster or Lewistown. The differences in the towns and in the Amish who live there are clear, but Miller doesn't stop there.
This story isn't just about the Amish - although they play a crucial role in the plot. It's also about the Englisch and their relationships with the Amish. It's ultimately about relationships - about making the ones that you have the best that you can. It's about making choices that honor God and will line up with His will in every aspect of your life - your career, your family, your friends, and your finances.
Which is not to say that this is a heavy or boring book - because no statement could be further from the truth. I turned page after page of this story, completely intrigued, waiting to find out about Joe's past and Rachel's future. I couldn't wait to learn how Bobby would react to his new surroundings and when Joe would be able to be himself. It was action-packed, both of the explosive and emotional variety. I couldn't put it down.
All of the characters added another layer of depth and interest to the story. Their interactions were fascinating, and each were vitally important to the growth of the Rachel and Joe and the suspense of the story overall. The contrast between Joe's "exciting" life and Sugarcreek's usual calm upped the action ante and made me read even faster.

This book had my attention from page 1. Honestly, I couldn't stop reading it. From the beginning where we meet Joe Matthew and is his sweet son, Bobby- I knew this story was going to be good. The story starts off with a father and his son trying to leave a past behind for a different future. Only to find that in the middle of this their truck breaks down and they find themselves in Sugar Creek, Ohio surrounded by Amish folks who talk a bit different and have different customs, luckily for Joe and Bobby, a kind man helped them find a place to stay, which then turns into a place where Joe lives with three Aunts for a while and helps take care of their hope. He also meets Rachel, a cop who wants to know Joes story and won't let it rest until she figures out what he's all about and why he's running from his past. The three Aunts are funny and great women. The character development in this story makes the aunts likeable and very relate-able. Rachel however, is the hardest character to relate to, until Joe finds her back story about her why she is so closed and suspicious of trusting others. Will Rachel uncover the mystery of why Joe is really in Sugarcreek?
I truly enjoyed my visit to Sugar Creek and learned a lot about the Amish community, customs and culture. If you're looking for a book with an interesting plot, full of character development and dynamic twists and turns, this book will keep you turning the pages! Rachel Troyer is a local cop in Sugarcreek Ohio. Although she is not Amish, she keeps an eye on her three elderly aunts who are. Sugarcreek is well known for tourists coming and going. Many love to buy Amish goods that are made. However, when Joe Matthews shows up, Rachel fears that he is not your ordinary tourists.
Joe and his son embark on a journey that leaves them on the door steps of Rachel's aunts. Although Rachel has her suspicions that Joe is hidding something, her aunts decide to help him.
What is this secret that has landed Joe in Sugarcreek Ohio?
This novel was fast paced! There was always something going on! The hearts that these three women possessed was amazing! They each had their own unique way about them. By the end of the book, I felt that they were part of my family. Rachel being who she is, is very protective of her aunts. Her cop instincts come out when a stranger shows up on her aunts door. The simple humor throughout the book, made it enjoyable. The love story that unfolded was one you hoped for!
I fell in love with Joe and his son Bobby! I loved how he always put his son before himself!
Not only does this story have a love story, it also has a mystery to be solved!

My Thoughts About The Book: I am a huge fan of Amish life stories. This one was a wonderful, if not a bit unusual read. It was definitely different from other Amish fiction I've read because it was more focused on the Old Order Amish and many of the main characters were "Englischers." It had an interesting mystery subplot threaded into the main plot that really held the reader's attention. This story was well written and very realistic. As the grandmother of two Downs Syndrome grandchildren I loved the introduction of this subject into the Amish world. I did see several characteristics that I felt would be way to difficult for someone with Anna's mental capabilities. Overall the story was very good. I read the book in one sitting from front to back. I just could not put this sweet romance down. In this book the themes of pride, restoration, and forgiveness were dealt with expertly. I would recommend this book to anyone who love Amish stories.
