Ethan and Jackson are looking forward to a weekend at their beach cottage, the one place where they don’t have to hide their relationship. But a meeting with a colleague sends Jackson running for cover, and Ethan is left with serious doubts about how they can continue to live this double life. A terrible act of violence will change everything, but for the better or worse?
3.5 stars Detective Jackson Cole and assistant DA Ethan Rafferty have been lovers for three years. BUT, Jackson is determined to keep their relationship in secret because he is not ready to tell the Force that he is gay. Ethan loves Jackson so much that he is willing to live in a lie. Then, on their Labor Day weekend vacation at Waverley Island, Jackson sees a guy that they both know. Scared that they guy will notice them together, he tells Ethan that they should leave the island. But Ethan refuses to do so, tired of being kept as hidden secret. Will this be the final obstacle that drives the men apart?
This story is too short *pout*. But, I still enjoy it very much. Jackson is a d*ck for treating Ethan that way -- though I understand in real life that there are still plenty of couples prefer to keep their relationship a secret. The ending is sweet and gives me hope that they will make it somehow.
Another fabulous Cassidy Ryan short story that would easily be a 5 star if it were novel length! Loved it. Highly recommended. A great way for lovers of M/M romance to spend 20 minutes.
