The Vaisnavopanisad-s

Rate this book
Of the traditional 108 Upanisads, only the ten principal ones are well-known. The Vaisnava Upanisads comprise fourteen of the less-known ones. In this book they were translated into English for the first time. The translation follows the commentary of Upanisadbrahmayogin, the only writer known who has commented on all 108 Upanisads. This provides a consistency of interpretation for these often obscure texts. He follows the Advaita Vedanta school of Sankaracarya. The classification as Vaisnava is traditional only. In fact, these Upanisads contain a wealth of information on Indian philosophy in general, and also on the practice of meditation. They include, for example, much on the use of mantras. They are essential works for those interested in Indian religion.
