I know Rex Reed by reputation, from his role in 'Myra Breckinridge' and from Phil Hartman's merciless parody of him on SNL ("Where's polio when you need it?"). I don't know Rex Reed as a journalist, although I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. And, after reading this, I can certainly understand why I don't know Rex Reed as an author. If truth is stranger than fiction, then Reed should stick to truth and not sleep inducing roman a clefs. How could a book about murder, thinly veiled celebrities and Hollywood hustlers be so boring? And who, outside of an X-rated Neil Simon play, talks the way these characters do? The constant references to classic films is fun, until it becomes grating. Much like this book.

É um pouco datado? É! Melodramático? Bastante!

This is a real glitzy and trashy novel of Hollywood from the 1950-80 full of ridiculous situations and unreal characters and I loved every minute of it. I knew Rex Reed could write a snarky interview but he sustained this style for almost 450 pages. It is also a mystery with a great twist ending. It is now out of print so procure a copy, make a drink and enjoy!

Utter garbage. One of those books you read if there's nothing else available; yearn for some other alternative during; and later regret the entire experience. Insipid; banal; insulting.
