Diane Stanley is an American children's author and illustrator, a former medical illustrator, and a former art director for the publisher G.P. Putnam's Sons. Born in 1943 in Abilene, Texas, she was educated at Trinity University (in San Antonio, TX) and at Johns Hopkins University. A poor boy sets off to make his fortune with a small sack of money. His betrothed suggests that he go into the town to make his fortune, which he does. He meets an old lady who persuades him to take a dancing tiger in exchange for his money. He makes the trade and in turn earns a fortune with his dancing tiger.
