Afterward at her house Rachel builds on the ideas together with feline friends, Attila and Raider. She also is in love with music, playing the piano, flute, as well as learning to play guitar.
Avalon: Web of Magic is Rachel’s very first series of novels.
2021 EDIT: I realised I had nearly no memory of anything that happens in this omnibus, so reading it again felt like experiencing it for the first time. And wow what a journey!
In its 600 pages, 'Avalon: Web of Magic Omnibus 1' is cute, sweet, funny, entertaining, engaging, action-packed, and surprisingly dramatic and nuanced, with some clever, coming-of-age themes. Light and dark work well together in these stories. The omnibus is easy for children to get into, understand and enjoy. I especially recommend it to fans of the Magical Girl genre, and anyone nostalgic for that kind of thing.
Friendship and animals are magic!
Final Score: 4/5
Original Review:
A cute, easy-to-read omnibus of the first three books in the 'Avalon: Web of Magic' series for younger readers. Of course older readers can enjoy it as well.
Full of magic, action and heart, this is great for girl power fans who are nostalgic for TV shows such as 'WITCH' and 'Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders' (which 'Avalon: Web of Magic' took inspiration from).
Animal lovers are also sure to enjoy the books, and there is an environmental message in each story. It can get a bit cheesy, but it's fun and harmless. And the stories do have dramatic moments and themes, especially in 'All that Glitters' and, even better, 'Cry of the Wolf'.
The characters are also distinct and surprisingly complex. My favourite is Adriane the "warrior" - she's a sarcastic, thawing ice queen who's also a really cool action girl. Like the other two girls, Emily the caring "healer" and Kara the rich "blazing star", she has a giant heart of gold underneath her insecure exterior. Ozzie, the elf in a ferret's body, reminded me of Daxter from the 'Jak and Daxter' video game series - a comic relief animal mascot. And Phel reminded me greatly of Totoro.
'Avalon: Web of Magic Omnibus 1' - a web of magic indeed, with stories including magical creatures and jewels, mystical powers, dreamcatchers and evil sorceresses. Fantastical, colourful fun.
I remember these! Weirdly I remember a lot of them. That's good enough of a reason for 4 stars. Not sure I'll reread them but actually why the heck not.
This book series is one of the first fantasy book series i read and i have to say i'm still a bit biased by it. it's a great read for tween and teen girls and helps to dip your toes in the non skipping-through-the-meadow-with-the-pretty-ponies-and-fairies world of fantasy. i can't wait until my own little sister is old enough for me to share them with her. one tip, though-Dark Mage, the last published book is out of print already, so if you want to read it,i'd hurry. i need to track down a copy for my family still, too.
I vaguely remembered reading this during my childhood (and loving it) and wanted to see if I could find it again. I'm glad I recalled enough of the plot to re-discover this series. It is a bit corny to me now since I’m older, but it’s fun too. The magic and friendship between the girls and their animal friends are sweet, and I was surprised that we were getting action scenes with some casualties amongst the group. I can’t wait to continue it.
this was a really good book and the characters were very different from each other and very well defined. this was a good read for me and I can't wait to read the next book of the series.
I just really don't like middle grade books. I know some people love them even as adults, but I just can't. The writing is always so condescending and overly simplistic and it makes my eyes roll back into my head.
This came highly recommended as "powerful female friendships having adventures" and actually might have been a response to my asking where all the "manly bonds of friendship on a quest" sam-and-frodo-esque stories were at for ladies. But uh. It's still extremely little-kid-ish and... no.
This book was beyond amazing when I first started reading this series I only had the first two and I was sad when I finished them, so my grandmother found this book and the next at a garage sale and immediately gave them to me! It is a great read for younger children and by far my 2nd favorite series!
