And Chrissy’s neighbor desperately needs her help to rescue her runaway sister from an abusive husband. Born on a North Dakota cattle ranch, Lois Greiman graduated from a high school class of sixty students before moving to Minnesota where she professionally trained and showed Arabian Horses for several years. Since that time she's been a high fashion model, a fitness instructor, and a veterinary assistant. But an incurable case of writing fever put a stop to all those occupations.
Since selling her first book to Avon in 1992, she has sold twelve other historical romance novels, most of which are set in medieval Scotland and involve her very popular Forbes clan. In an attempt to pursue her love of humor, Ms. Greiman has also recently sold three romantic comedies to Harlequin Enterprises.
While caring for three children, fifteen horses, and a menagerie of pets on her small farm in Minnesota, Ms. Greiman writes full time, producing two or three novels a year and garnering much praise from readers and reviewers alike. Affaire de Coeur called HIGHLAND WOLF "magnificent." Romantic Times proclaimed LADY AND THE KNIGHT"...pure magic." Christina Dodd proclaims "Lois Greiman delivers....The Fraser Bride offers delightful characters, breathless adventure."
Her Highland novels have received Affaire de Couer's Critic's Choice Award, Romantic Times K.I.S.S. Award, and been nominated for Romance Writer's of America's prestigious Rita. Her titles have appeared on Barnes and Nobles Best Selling Romance list and won her the Midwest Fiction Writer's Rising Star Award.
How can you not love a book with dialogue like this?
I felt kind of powerful as I shimmied through Joe's sliding doors. The grocery carts were mating in the entryway. I rudely pried one from its partners and proceeded into the store. The produce section, as colorful as Mardi Gras, called to me. The peppers looked ripe and sassy, the lemons firm and shapely. I picked one up.
"Take two," Rivera said over my shoulder. "They're small."
I turned to him, uber-controlled, one brow raised. "I was hoping otherwise."
He exhaled his derision and pressed the extra lemon into my hand. "I believe you saw me showering."
"Did I?" I said, "I hardly remember." I skimmed the bananas.
He reached for a plantain, long and dark and thick. "Shall I attribute your forgetfulness to dementia or post-trauma?" he asked.
"How about to disinterest?"
"Not until you're dead," he said.
I gave him a look.
"And you're not dead."
I fluttered my lashes. "That may be the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
"Meet me in the backseat and I'll recite poetry," he said, and weighed a Bosc pear in his right hand. His fingers curled tantalizingly against the firm fruit.
"It would almost be worth it to hear the dark lieutenant spouting Longfellow."
"I was going to quote Browning," he said, "but if you think Longfellow more appropriate."
Our gazes met. A fork of electricity sizzled through me, but I managed to pull my attention away and move on.
I have to say, I almost didn't buy this book. The previous books left me frustrated and annoyed because Chrissy has so many love interests, yet, she never moves forward with any of them. So without giving away what happens, I'll say that Not One Clue made me happy that Chrissy's personal life finally seems to be evolving.
Okay I loved this book. I love Chrissy, Lainey, and of course Riveria. The book was quick paced and I couldn't put it down. There were three story lines going on and together they kept interwining and then striking off on their own so that I was kept guessing till the end all of the mysteries that were being solved. A great read and a great series.
I love this series. :) This one book is hilarious. :) I fear it's the last one in the list. :(
If you like the Stephanie Plum series, you'll love this one too. :D
I don't know if I really like this one book or that it's been awhile since I read the previous books. This particular one is really funny. I love the quotes presented at the start of each chapter... and well all the witty banter. It just drives me crazy. :)
Chrissy could get quite annoying in the previous books. I remember just saying, "well that's just dumb". In this book, everything seems to be "justified" ha! Seriously though this book is the best I think. In the previous books I felt that our girl was being described as a lost cause that no man would want especially beside her best friend that she always praises... In this book, I really like since she was an object of desire finally. :) Anyway... that's that. :) I'm happy for our girl. ;)
I read all six books in this series last week. Each one took maybe four hours. But I'm satisfied. They were light-hearted and fun, and the characters were friendly and enjoyable. A few quibbles here and there, the same as any quick fluffy books have, but overall they didn't matter.
Great for a beach read, with stories, writing, and plot points somewhere in between Janet Evanovich and Jennifer Crusie.
I really loved this one, perhaps it wasn't as funny as the previous ones but I think it was more emotional.... I laughed a lot with the scene of the party it was hilarious. I must say it's kind of embarrasing but I cried when Jackson called Solberg that whole scene was really emotional, but I'm so happy for the ending :)
I really love this series - similar to Stephanie Plum, but better in some ways - story line is consistently good so far. Would recommend to all my friends.
If you love reading. can't resist the ultimate world of thought this book is giving. Enjoyed reading. One regret is, a keen reader like me demand something more original.
I rate books on a sliding scale, based on how well it succeeds at being the kind of book it wants to be. It may seem ridiculous to score this shallow page-turner 4 stars, when I just recently rated David Mitchell's superbly well-written "number9dream" only 3 stars.
But it did not gel as a novel, whereas "Not One Clue" sets its sights less literately - aiming for a romance/crime thriller airplane novel and hits its target squarely on the head.
As with previous entries in the series, Lois Greiman has a tendency to overwrite her witty dialogue just a tad - the humorous banter is great, but always seems to go on a few lines longer than it ought, lessening its impact slightly.
This is a minor complaint, though, for a book that develops the ongoing storyline with Chrissy and Rivera, as well as that of one of Chrissy's therapy clients. There are several subplots that are all well-presented, and dovetail into one another. As with many "mystery" books (this is billed as one, but is primarily "romance", secondarily "thriller", but let's go with the nomenclature for now) the resolution of the plot relies just a little too much on a handy coincidence - but it doesn't stretch reality too far.
It reads easily, is fun, and if you're this far into the series you probably care enough about the characters that you will be pleased with some of the developments that occur. Sexy, thrilling fun. Recommended, if you like this sort of thing.
A lot is going on in this book. Chrissy is called to a client Micky who seems to have shot someone, her best friend Laney gets creepy mails and her neighbour's sister wants to run away from her husband from Yemen. And like always Chrissy gets somehow involved. We also get a lot of Jack Riviera in this book and some hot moments with him and Chrissy and perhaps nothing disturbing them? Or?
I was feeling hopeless for them when I read Chrissy's reason why shy doesn't wants to jump in the backseat with Riviera. Omg, Chrissy for sure?!
ok i was was getting frustrated with this series because it seems like the relationship between Chrissy & Rivera is getting nowhere. I skipped book 4 & 5 because the reviews were not good. This one was supposedly the one to bring it home, and it did (for me at least). I word to describe this book: FINALLY !!!!!
Chrissy and Jack might finally be on the same page as far as their relationship goes, but Chrissy's clients are making her crazy. And someone may be stalking Chrissy's best friend, Laney, who is becoming a big star because of her role as the Amazon Queen. Then there's her next door neighbor's sister who has escaped from her cruel husband in Yemen. More craziness ensues.
Fun entertaining series , with slapstick behavior by the characters. All the characters are likeable and they keep getting into "situations " where Christina feels the need to leap into action. Again... not Stephanie Plum, but a good read never the less.
This was a funny book. I was laughing out loud several times. The part at the Hollywood party was hilarious. Plus Chrissy and Rivera finally got together without being interrupted by their phones. I have totally enjoyed all the Chrissy McMullen books.
I tried I really did. Persevered long after tolerance levels allowed. The constant fatuous and inane comments that litter this book in the name of 'humour' just irritated me. Slapstick in the movies is bad enough but on the pages of a book? I don't think so.
The three (or so) mystery plots were weaker than in previous books, and the inter-connection of them seemed shaky. But the romance FINALLY came together a little.
