Gustave Dore was one of the greatest illustrators of the 19th Century. In "The Dore Treasury" James Stevens offers examples of his best engravings: the book is 95% illustrations.
Dore was one of those rare talents who started to draw when he was four and never gave up on his visions and interpretations of some of the classics of literature and also the Bible.
The emotion and passion in Dore's illustrations come across throughout. This volume showcases Dores illustrations for: The Bible, Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, Don Quixote, Perraults Fairy Tales and more.
A super introduction to the work of Dore.
