From the moment Hank Janson, a newspaper reporter, gets into the train carriage in fictional Routania the rip-roaring action, Janson-style, begins.

Elsa, the lady in distress is like a hundred characters in one, a personality with any number of splits and one moment she is a mature woman, the next a vamp.

Janson is surprised by what he discovers but, as is his wont, he takes it all in his stride and eventually sorts out the problems but ... never mind, the rest is the story!
