Some sex disasters make you laugh. Some make you cringe. Some send you running for help.
And here's the place to learn about all of them: the jammed handcuff, the short-circuited vibrator, the cop peering in your car window, a date who won't take no for an answer. Plus a sprinkling of Extremely Complicated Instructions for Simple Stuff: How to Shave Your Genitals; Getting To Know Your Condom; A Man's Guide To Menstruation; A Woman's Guide To Erections, and more).
Physician Charles Moser, sex educator Janet Hardy, and a consulting team of attorneys, cops, EMTs, therapists and sex educators team up to create a tongue-in-cheek (but factually accurate) guide to surviving those awkward moments inside the bedroom, dungeon, back seat, and bushes.
Charles Moser, Ph.D., M.D., received his Ph.D. from the Institute for Advanced Study in Human Sexuality, where he is now a Professor of Sexology and Dean of Professional Studies. He went on to earn his M.D. degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1991. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and is also a board-certified Sexologist. He maintains a private internal medicine practice in San Francisco, with a focus on sexual concerns and the medical problems of sexual minorities. He is also the author of Greenery Press's 'Health Care Without Shame: A Handbook for the Sexually Diverse and Their Caregivers'.
I finished this up quickly once I started it. It's a fast read but it really does have a lot of useful information. The authors present plausible situations and give advice without making any judgements at all (unless the question involves something horrible like rape). They also write in a style friendly to all sexual orientations; the assumption isn't always that people are engaging in heterosexual activity.
I paged through and read different chapters. This is more like a how to book for my (23)year old son, who has not got out in the world yet. For me, it is common sense, and I might give it to my son instead. The only bonus for me with this book is, that I got to meet the author and have it signed when I bought it.
I love Janet Hardy anyway, but this book is incredibly useful and has cute little illustrations. They've thought of any possible sex-related catastrophe that could happen and then told you how to solve it in solid, slightly humorous language.
