John Buscema (/bjuːˈsɛmə/; Italian: [buʃˈʃɛːma]; born Giovanni Natale Buscema, was an American comic book artist and one of the mainstays of Marvel Comics during its 1960s and 1970s ascendancy into an industry leader and its subsequent expansion to a major pop culture conglomerate. His younger brother Sal Buscema is also a comic book artist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bu...
This book provides a very interesting look at the artwork of John Buscema. Most books of this type tend to feature the main works/style of the artist, however in this tome we are treated to the many different sides of Buscema's work that many of fans are probably unfamiliar with. One can truly see his "classical" background while perusing through the pages. A decent interview is mixed in with the artwork, but it is clearly the art that is the main draw.
John Buscema was the first comic artist I really got into. I'd seek out his stuff, but really I only love his heroic fantasy Conan stuff. This book made me really want to check out his Silver Surfer run which he says is his favourite work of his.
I bought this from the publisher at a convention just after it was published. I love that publisher and author Spurlock records so much history of comic illustration. He's done a fantastic job and recomend all he has produced.
There are lesser efforts. This is one of those. This really should have been larger to better view the illustrations. The text should have been laid out entirely differently. It's broken up in very bad ways. One break involves a hyphen. It's pages later the other side of the hyphen is found.
The artwork is broken into sufficient categories, but the text doesn't match the chapter. There's also the introduction by Jim Steranko is nearly a swipe of the interview presented. Thus, repitious.
Still, it's the best collection done so far and the interview is otherwise very good.
Bottom line: I recommend this book. 7 out of ten points.
Keşke kitapta Ernie Chan'a da biraz olsun yer verilseydi. Çizgi romanın altın çağını şekillendiren Big John Buscema nın eskizlerine ve kendisi ile parça parça söyleşilerin yer aldığı koleksiyonluk bir kitap. Türkçe baskısı Sırtlan yayınlarından çıkmış.
This is a fantastic way to learn how John Buscema could create fantastic action angles in his Comics. You can also see many pen sketches he used to do in the back of Comics Pages.
