Riverdale meets fairy tale in this edgy, seductive twist on the age-old stories you think you know.
When Penny Zale vanishes from the psychiatric hospital where she’s being held against her will, only her chopped-off braid and cryptic letters remain. If her friends—Raven, Aarya, Dawn, and Elle—have any chance of finding Penny, they must enter a world where money and power mean everything, and life is expendable.
The lies that built Everbeach run deep, and someone is willing to do anything to keep them hidden. The girls believe Penny’s letters point to her ex, big sugar heir Logan Steele. When Raven tries to get close to Logan to gather information, she finds herself fighting a dangerous attraction to the magnetic billionaire.
Everything begins to unravel when Aarya discovers Raven has been keeping secrets. Raven’s painful past of anxiety and addiction causes her to spiral, and everyone, including Raven herself, starts to question her version of reality. As threats and attacks ramp up against the friends, they must decipher what happened to Penny before they’re the next to disappear.
Scandalous secrets, deadly twists, and forbidden love make this series perfect for fans of Inheritance Games, Thousandth Floor, and Pretty Little Liars.
OH! MY! GAWWWWWWWWD!!! That was a whirlwind of emotion that I was NOT prepared for! Red as Blood felt like the characters from Once Upon a Time were starring in an episode of Riverdale that was written for Karen M McManus, but with some Outer Banks thrown in there. Like the mystery and suspense was TOP NOTCH! 🤯 I’m still reeling over how incredible this book was!!!!!!!!
When their friend Penny goes missing from the mental institution she’s been committed to, she leaves behind only her long blonde braid and poems for each of her 4 friends. This sends them on a hunt to solve the mystery of where she is.
Each of the friends is based on a fairytale princess and if you knew me you’d know that I am a Disney adult and lover of all things retelling.
Raven (Snow White) is the main character in Red as Blood. It’s her story that we learn the most about in this book and that of her (EVIL!!!!) stepmother, Vera. There is no magic in this world, but the outcome is still the same. The characters get dark and sad back stories and what happens to them can still be just as awful!
Raven’s father is away on business and he isn’t answering her texts, so everything goes through one person, Vera. And when bad things start happening, everyone treats her as if she’s lying. No one believes her, not even her friends. This really hurt (me as well as the character… I felt horrible for her.)! I never want someone to feel like they have no one to turn to. I just wanted to give her a hug and tell her that I believe her!!!!!!
When I got to a point in the book and knew who the villain was, I messaged Dominique Richardson to vent my emotions. You know a book is incredible when you just need to give a reaction to the author. 😂
I really loved this book and can’t wait to see what the girls get up to in the sequel. This is a 4 book series… so I just need my favorites from the friend group to make it out unscathed… and yes! I have favorites. Will I tell you who? Nope!😝
I loved this book so much! It gave me all the Pretty Little Liars vibes with the perfect little fairytale hints. It was fast paced and really fun to dive into. I loved how the story progressed and all of the personal touches the authors put in these characters. This is a must read! 🤍
This book had me hooked from chapter 1! I found myself not being able to put it down needing to know what was going to happen next. I constantly kept thinking I knew what was going to happen but with twist upon twist I was forever on my toes. I can’t wait to recommend and share with all my friends!
Penny Zale goes missing from a psychiatric hospital, where she was held against her will. Now it's upto her friends Raven, Arya, Dawn and Elle to venture on a dangerous path ridden with secrets, in order to find the truth behind Penny's disappearance. But will they stand a chance against the rich and powerful of Everbeach, who will go to great lengths to stop these friends, even if it means killing them all.
The girls receive a cryptic letter from Penny which points to her ex, Logan Steele, the heir to sugar tycoon Harvey Steele. Raven has to fight her growing attraction to Logan while trying to gather information by getting close to him. But with each girl struggling with their own personal battles, everything begins to unravel. Before another girl disappears, the four friends have to decipher the mystery.
I loved the four friends especially Raven and Arya. Raven's struggle with anxiety and addiction was raw and heart-breaking to read. She goes through a lot because of her evil step-mother Vera. Arya is passionate about singing and attempts to convince her parents to pursue music, though without success so far. But both Raven and Arya haven't given up on their dreams. Though coming from different backgrounds, the girls show solidarity and their friendship runs deep. This book has a lot to offer in terms of tropes and themes like forbidden love, scandalous secrets, female friendships, diverse characters, suspense and intrigue. The plot is layered and infused with both Jamaican and Indian cultural influences. I loved how the authors brought out their ethnicity to paint a vibrant picture of Raven and Arya.
Red as Blood is a perfect blend of age old stories and mystery. The plot is full of unexpected twists making it a perfect YA mystery. I love multi-genre books and this book seamlessly combines fairytale elements and young adult mystery. With clean and descriptive writing, the authors have given us a riveting novel. It's a compelling debut novel in the Everbeach series. The story of the four friends and their pursuit of adventures and secrets continues in A Stolen Voice, the second novel in the Everbeach series.
The book is getting published on 28th February 2023. I highly recommend this book for fans of Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars. It's a perfect pick, if you are looking for an engrossing young adult mystery.

This book is perfect for fans of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and Grimrose Girls. If you like high school aged twisty suspense with a group of friends trying to solve a mystery - you will enjoy this book. It was very “grown-ups versus the kids” and the kids taking the investigation of their missing friend into their own hands because the cops aren’t doing enough.
Definitely got some Riverdale/Pretty Little Liars vibes from this story.
The villain, Raven’s step-mom - was the best character. So much gaslighting and cruelty- it was very reminiscent of the typical evil stepmother in fairytales.
There were a few plot holes that kept me from really connecting with the story and I think the ending was a little rushed. I did not love the focus on faked mental illness and gaslighting of addiction symptoms - but that is just my personal preference.
Give this book a read if you like YA mysteries and fairy tale retellings (without the fantasy aspects).
This book is so good!!! It drags you into the story immediately. There isn't really a preamble, there's no slow start. It just immediately picks up from page one. And I love that.
You can tell right away that this is going to be an amazing series. The characters are great. The friendships and the relationships are amazing. And the setting is creepy as hell.
The villain is great. She is so incredibly well written that you hate her pretty much as soon as you meet her. Raven is my favorite character. And I loved how she was written. I'm already incredibly attached to her and I'm invested in what's going to happen to her.
There are so many twists and turns that I wasn't really sure where the book was going and it kept me on my toes flipping the pages to find out what would happen next.
If you are at all a fan of YA thrillers I would definitely recommend picking this book up. And if you are a fan of the show Riverdale then I would definitely pick this one up as well because there are definite Riverdale vibes in this.
Thank you @wisewolfbooks for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
I am absolutely floored by this fantastic gritty YA Thriller! If you are a fan of dark fairytales and Pretty Little Liars, then this is exactly what you didn’t know you needed. I had an absolute blast figuring out which girl was which fairytale princess, and what aspects were similar to the twists in PLL.
This story follows a group of diverse friends who are all trying to comprehend the disappearance of their friend Penny. As they discover certain elements that don’t add up, they decide to take it upon themselves to solve the mystery of what happened to Penny. During their investigation we get to see many glimpses into each girl’s individual lives. I absolutely loved all of the cultural aspects, and how each girl embraces her own individuality.
The thriller aspect of the story was gripping, and cunningly written. It kept me guessing to the very last page. I am so incredibly excited to continue reading the Everbeach series!!
After reading Red as Blood, as an ebook, I can say that I throughly enjoyed it. As I read it, it reminded me of Pretty Little Liars and One of Us is Lying, with a Snow White modern retelling vibes.
Four female friends received a note from a missing friend. They’re trying to find why she went missing. As they’re searching for answers, they receive threatening texts. This scenario reminds me of Pretty Little Liars and One of Us is Lying. A anyone? Or Simon? Jake?
Meanwhile, Vera, Raven’s stepmother, hates Raven and will do anything to get rid of her. This is where the Snow White vibe comes in.
Will Raven’s prince, the boy she likes, save her? Will he believe her? Will her friends help? Will they find out what happened to Penny, their missing friend?

This new novel is the first in a new YA romantic suspense series by Sorboni Banerjee and Dominique Richardson, and it was so fun!
It’s a fairy-tale inspired suspense— four friends working together to solve the mystery of their best friends disappearance, based on the clues she left behind. There’s drama and mayhem, wicked villains, beach parties, and so much more!
While at the beginning I was a little overwhelmed with so many things happening all at once, Banerjee and Richardson did a good job of laying out all the plots come the end of the book. It had some really great twists, a dramatic ending, and a good little cliffhanger.
A fun first book to this series, I’m so interested to see where it goes!
I was very kindly gifted a copy of this book, and honestly I loved it. I devoured this book. It is fast paced and full of drama, there was never a good point to put this book down. And just when I thought I had everything figured out another curve ball was thrown into the mix.
The main characters were all very likeable and I enjoyed reading from their POV. I did find the multiple POV confusing at first but once I figured out who everyone was and what family/storyline they belonged to I found the multiple POV a really good aspect of the book.
If you enjoyed One of us is lying, I would recommend this book for you.
Great read! Loved the fairytale elements of this book it reminded me of the tv show once upon a time but if the characters were teenagers! Loved the mystery in this book and how it developes along the way to creat lots of suspense and intrigue into the disappearance of Penny! Loved all of the characters! I thought they added a lot to the development of the plot in this book and helped in building the intrigue! They all were easy to connect with helping creat a connection to the story early on in read the book! The twists in this book and the drama was captivating and really fun to read about! Recommend checking this book out if you love Fairytale Retellings, Mystery/Thrillers, Missing Person plots, and suspenseful twist filled reads!!!
This book was immediately captivating. I started it at 5pm on a Wednesday with the intention of reading a few hours before dinner and bed… I stayed up until 2am and finished the entire book! The characters were relatable and reminiscent of my days in high school. The normalization and naturalness of different cultures in the book was so organic and felt like a great representation for blending cultures. There were lots of twists, none predictable. The subtle references to the classic fairy tales was soooo fun… Overall, I found myself fully immersed and 100% hooked!
The Banerjee & Richardson writing team did something pretty awesome here. Using the Brothers Grimm folk tales as the undercurrent, they created a YA world less about happy endings and more about the challenges, fears, problems, anger, jealousy, and evil that we find in the real world. Using two points of view, the reader sees events from two perspectives and sometimes you wonder who is telling the truth and who isn't in their right mind. What a great story! Can't wait to read books two, three, and four (which they pushed out in less than a year--amazing!).
Someone in our book club picked the first book of this series, and I am truly glad they did. Being in a book club is awesome in that you are exposed to books you would maybe have never even known about otherwise. The two authors uniquely switch off points of view in this truly suspenseful and completely entertaining shattering of fairytales. Once I realized the characters and references were nodding to the fairytales we love to know, it was like a reading scavenger hunt amidst a thrilling who done it mystery. I look forward to continuing the series!
Excellent storytelling that kept you wanting more! Wonderful play on fairytales we all know. The storytelling soars effortlessly in this new book and kept me reading and wanting more! You get immersed with these colorful characters and take the journey with them till the very end. Can’t wait to Read book 2,3 and 4! Definitely recommend this to anyone who values strong characters and clever storytelling.
What a great book! The suspense and mystery was so well done, it gave me all the Pretty Little Liars feels and I was here for it. The characters were great, the story was fantastic and I can’t wait to start book 2!
3.5 stars! Arc review Definitely had moments, especially toward the end, that I just had to keep reading! If you like YA suspense/mystery I think this would be a good read for you.
What a page turner! I loved this book. Full of mystery, strong friendships, forbidden romance and adventure I had a hard time putting this book down. I can't wait for the second book!
The book definitely was not bad, I enjoyed the read, but it never grasped me like I thought it would. The last 50 or so pages convinced me I want to read the second book though.
This book has it all! Suspense, romance, richly diverse and colorful characters and hints at classic fairy tales! Red as blood is a story about the powerful bonds of friendship and the importance of uncovering the truth, no matter the cost! Every chapter brings exciting new twists that keep you wanting to read more. If you liked the Lunar Chronicles, Disney Twisted Tales or Inheritance Games then I definitely recommend you check it out. I can't wait for book 2!
