This is a very engaging book for fans of all kinds of spooky creatures. There are cryptids, such as the sasquatch and the Yeti, plus the Loch Ness Monster, a swamp monster in the Everglades, sea monsters, a changeling -- just a great variety of stories about such things by various authors, including Arthur Conan Doyle, Joe R. Lansdale, Avram Davidson, Robert Bloch, William Hope Hodgson, Leslie Charteris, Nigel Kneale, Barry N. Malzberg and others. If monsters are your thing, I recommend this highly. It's out of print but not hard (or expensive) to get a secondhand copy.

a placeholder review, for when I finally get around to reading this whole book:

"Survival Exercise" by Talmage Powell: Marines on a survival exercise in the Everglades run afoul of creature that wipes out their team. While Powell occasionally pushes his writing beyond the given frame of a likely record to be left after the fact, this is solid, entertaining writing in a pulp vein - a simple survival story, well told.
