I am reviewing this book on behalf of The Book Dragon.
Something Said, by Mark Anthony Smith, is a collection of short pieces of writing and poetry. The prose takes the form of streams of consciousness and conversations with a varied subject matter. As with other books of this style, it contains some enjoyable pieces and others that don’t quite hit the mark. I liked the poetry the most. However, there is some excellent writing throughout.
Because of its size and how it is set out, it is the type of book one can dip into occasionally rather than reading it in one sitting. There is the odd editing issue, but this did not spoil my reading enjoyment, so I have awarded it four stars.

A trove of gripping, bite-size stories leading up to a humdinger of a main course

An exceptional collection of diverse but consistently marvelous short fiction demonstrating stunning range and comfort effortlessly pivoting between genres but maintaining the same essence, strong voice and eloquent command of storytelling throughout. (Also a few artful poems included!) Smith proves equally masterful in romance and slice-of-life as with speculative Lovecraftian horror or dystopian science fiction. The novella concluding this strong collection otherwise showcasing pieces under two pages in length is positively mesmerizing, deeply moving and thought provoking, exploring love, mortality, and faith (also animal rights) through the intersections of cuisine and human interaction. Would make a phenomenal film or stage adaptation, is further noteworthy as a significant piece of disability literature, the story is highly memorable, feels honest and deep in a manner one wishes they encountered more often in literature and associated mediums. This author has a true knack for both flash and longer form storytelling, characters and hooking the reader and leaving them satisfied at the conclusion of each polished piece of writing. I highly recommend this book, intend to read more by the author, commend him on a fantastic collection of rich, diverse work!

A kaleidoscope of emotional rhythms and textures within texts which will touch your soul. This is something everyone should read. A small book, unpretentious with a big message. When you've read Coleslaw Wrap you'll know what it's all about.
