J.R. Erickson writes novels that blend murder mysteries with haunted houses. Her Northern Michigan Asylum series are novels of paranormal suspense inspired by a real former asylum in Traverse City. Her current books, the Troubled Spirits series, are all inspired by real crimes, which she covers in her true crime podcast, Bitter Endings.
Jacki is a lifelong lover of all things spooky, and started penning scary stories in childhood. She grew up in Mason, Michigan and is a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in Psychology. These days, Jacki resides near Traverse City, Michigan with her husband, son, and three cats.
This series of stand alone stories, all based around an insane asylum, grabs you from the start and does not let go. I had a hard time putting these books down.
The Haunted Asylum Series by J. R. Erickson, is truly a must read for anyone who likes a little suspense, intrigue, murder, creepy haunted houses and stories based on true events. The storylines are all very well written. They will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Each book could technically be a standalone novel, but they all share some similar characters. Additionally, each carry the common theme of the Northern Michigan Insane Asylum. This was an actual place in Northern Michigan which, being from Michigan, is definitely on my to see list someday! The experiences and experiments that went on there are beyond belief! The fact that some of it truly happened just floors me. The characters that we meet are all fantastic and engaging. Some, especially Sophia and Abe, will find a permanent place in your heart. Others you will want to personally capture and bury in your backyard. Each book has a special story to tell that is well worth your time to read it.
Every book fell in line as it followed the suspense of each group that held its entwined words of each other's lives. My favorite was the 1st 2, although each one was spellbinding!! The twist & turns in their lives kept me on the tip of my seat, never figuring out what came next. I really liked the theme thread of the very strong women who the stories of the lives of each of them!!! Great Great read!!
These four tales kept me wanting more! The author finds little ways to tie them together, all four working in the asylum in Northern Michigan, and glimpses of some of my favorite characters from book to book. So good! I can't wait to start book 5. Definitely read them in order!
I loved this series from start to finish! Very interesting, captivating, left you wanting to keep reading to find out what happens next. If you enjoy ghost stories And murder mysteries this is a great read!
This book series was amazing but I find all her work to be incredible. I’ve only discovered this author about two months ago and I’ve been devouring her work since.
This series was my guilty pleasure to read. I read all eight books in ten days! Just couldn't put them down. I loved how each book tied in to the last. Now on to the next series...
A little hard to follow along at the start of the 1st book but after I figured out how the chapters were going it was great, already starting the next group of books
Highly recommend reading this series. It was very well written. Riveting, hard to put it down. Great author. Will definitely read more from this author.
I loved this series, I loved how it showed different perspectives. You never knew what was going to happen or what was coming next!! I highly recommend!!
Loved every single book in this series. The writing, the story telling was excellent. Loved how they intertwined linking them with a thread through all the books.
The four books in the box set are enthralling. A lady who can see spirits is admitted to the asylum by an unscrupulous woman. A ritual by a woman to get back her murdered husband goes horribly haywire. Vanishing young women whose remains are never found but are connected to the asylum. Lastly, a disturbed young man who dabbles in dark magic and becomes a renowned doctor who indulges in experimenting with the patients. Each story gave me the chills as seemingly normal people are not who they appear to be
After eight books in this series, many evil so-called doctors with horrible morals, ghosts of good and bad people, and children who were mistreated and experimented on growing into adults, it was thrilling to see ALL of the bad guys get their upcomings.
