Empress
The story was very well written. The world and characters were described well enough that you could picture it in your mind. However, the only thing that really bothered me about the whole story line was the way that Vicktor gets treated by Elaine. I don't think she loved him like it says because the first chance she gets she throws him aside for Talon. I know Talon was more like a brother, but after he becomes part of her circle she just tosses Vicktor aside. Then to put a spy in place after banishing his uncle and pushing Vicktor aside, in my eyes made her worse than the rest of the rulers.

October 30, 2020This book left me reeling not in a good way.
From the first book the storyline was engrossing in every single aspect - political, personal journey of characters, characters themselves, main and secondary, romantic line, the world, etc. you name it. This series got me invested in Victor's and Elainne's relationship, in the previous book the gnome even said that the kemp and their charge supposed to be completely entwined soul-merged as much as possible, as it's deemed by fate.. it was a good indication I'd say foreshadowing the romantic HEA for V&E, the way they were separated I don't even think is constistent with story or mythos of that world up to the last book, were the book suddenly turns everything upside down, I don't know why to be edgy and subversive probably. Also, a couple of other books I read by this author had romatic HEA against even much greater odds. So it felt safe to expect similar resolution for our couple here.. It's actually even worse than that, it's a freaking reversed harem only without chemistry and romance for the fans of such theme (not me btw). I don't care for how everything been resolved in this book. Nauseated really.
I absolutely regret reading this series, this is all the fault of this trainwreck of a book... and the first three books were so excellent. If I'd known Elainne would take multiple consorts to have children with, future heirs, I would not have wasted my time and money on this series. I was reading with growing horror and revulsion after this idea had been introduced. As a reader I had totally different expectations of the book. This was really one huge crushing disappointment for me. To be fair Iwoud not have been happy with any outcome where she's not with Victor. However, this is a whole new level of awfull.
